Hi guys,

So i have just got my custom switch through which i am planning on wiring up properly to the car but i cannot figure out the relay that comes in the pack.

I have got the switch in the car and illuminated which looks lovely and works perfectly but the relay part confuses me, i have asked the seller and he gave me a link to a German PDF ( http://www.carstyle4you.com/pdf/Montageanleitung_VW.pdf ) which explains it to some degree but i cant figure out which wires i need to use and was wondering if anyone here has done this before could maybe give me some insight to this.

here is the diagram the seller sent me:

I have searched other forums and found threads to other installs but only one shows the relay i have.

This is what the back of the button looks like: (taken from this thread: VWVortex.com - Flapper Switch DIY - CarStyle4You Edition)

The ESP connector is to light up the button at night when the car lights are on, which i have wired up and works perfectly.

and the relay:

His application is different to mine as he has an ECU involved which is the confusing part as he says that in the above pic pin 12 is ground and pin 14 live so pin 11 should be signal but i cannot be sure and am tired of blowing fuses in the car when trying it out.

oh and here is the button i have in the car right now:

any help appriciated

I'm confused, what does this switch actually do?

well the switch can be used to make anything on/off... without the use of the relay it becomes a 'pushbutton' switch which sends the on signal whilst it is pressed (like a garage door) but with the relay it can be used to turn something on and then a second press would turn it off.
I am wanting to use it on some custom wiring i have in the car, problem is i cant make out what wires do what on the relay.

the diagram the seller sent me shows the left side is ground, the middle is live and the right is signal to device but i cant be certain of that as when i have wired it up like that it keeps blowing the fuse.

just thinking about this... (silly question - thinking out loud) if the right side of the relay (14) is the signal to device and then the middle (11) is essentially the switch, i could just wire up the device to 14 and then ground it on 11. the device is always on so by grounding it i am turning it off. i wouldnt need a wire in 12 then and it may just work... would explain why i am blowing fuses???
sorry for the random thoughts but it helps if i write it out... i need to test this theory out and report back

Were you able to get this to work. I have a need to get it working and the directions they sent work for crap.

Looks to me like a simple no nc relay. The one marked klemme 15 is the common and the one marked shalter on is normally closed and the other one is the normally open. Hope that helps

Input into 11, output into 14' leave 12 alone.

yeah well i got that part figured out. i think i got a bum relay. im really not happy with this carstyle switch. so i have the vehicle input going to 11 and the output for the device im switching going to 14. on a1 and a2 im sending the 2 wires from the switch. since im not using an existing esp im working on figuring out the remaining pieces. i have 3 wires going into the cable provided by car style into the switch red/white/black. going with logic i provide power to the red, black is ground and im figuring white is the led for the switch....... well when i have the white disconnected i get a 12v hit on it with the meter and this is with the red being powered by 12v. im totally lost now.

Sorry I can't shed any light on your problem Ash, but I'd just like to say how nice the switch looks :)

I was looking at the Bose grilles & illuminated glovebox panel on the website.
I think the price for the grilles are a little high, also not to sure on drilling my glove box for the feed for power to the glovebox panel.

yeah well ive managed to hose up the relay and the wiring harness they provide and after 2 weeks i still cant get an answer from these folks. its like they just vanished. i now ordered my own relay and am building my own cable. shouldn't be to difficult.

Sorry to hijack.
I have electric gates with 2 button fob, would one of these work to operate the gate?

Hi guys I found this old thread as I was after the name of the company that made the custom switch covers. The site doesn’t look like it’s been active for a long time. I was wondering if anyone knew of anybody that produces custom switch covers/switches as I’ve got a project in mind.
