Right.. After my car being keyed, i have decided to upgrade the car alarm. I have been looking at some proximity alarms. Is there anykits out there that warns of the person within half a meter of the car? Pretty much Tells them to move the f**K away.....

All ideas and inputs welcome..

Morning dude.

I think if you look in the thread about Sarah's A3 being stolen there is a proximity system in there? Viper I think it is?

On a different note, are you totally sure it was keyed and not just scraped by accident because from the photos the scratch looks about 200-250mm long and I was thinking about it last night - surely if someone was going to key your car they would put a longer scratch than that, no?

Still, the proximity alarm may have helped by alerting them they were too close to your car! :)

I have had a prox alarm and they become extremely annoying. A great idea and can bring a lot of unecessary attention to your car. Obviously it's your call but I would never have another one again.

+1 I used to have one on one of my previous cars and although a good idea in practise very irritating and like L1 says draws alot of unecessary attention. (On a side note you could actually record what ever message you wanted i.e Get away from the car you thieving little f*cks and not just a warning beep).

The proximity sensors on the alarms wont really help if someone approached your car from the boot end. I used to have it on a previous car along with the remote engine start and although it was good i wouldnt do it again. As my windows were tinted for someone to look inside they would need to come close to the car and peer in and thats when the sensor would go off. as its installed around the centre console it works near the front doors.

also that didnt stop some **** from keying my car either. i would recommend getting a security camera for your house

I wish we could install turrets or tranquilliser darts... Would be so fun to watch.

Scenario:

FIRST NED: Aye man, let's key this Guys long earned effort money saved car.

SECOND NED: aye man buck fast let's do it.

Two NEDS walk towards car. BEEP BEEP step away from the car.

Then gets shot hahahahahahah

That would be fine but his was damaged while he was parked away from his house. He lives in a good area too, vaguely hidden from the road so I doubt anyone would do anything to it there... Just a shame it was damaged, I wish people would watch what they're doing/leave other people's stuff alone!

I mentioned a while ago about an in-car camera that I had been testing in my car for my company. Its pretty good. Its called the Blackvue DR400G HD... It records your journey so if there was an accident (Much like what happend to Ash a few weeks back) it can provide evidence of what actually happened. Being Full HD makes it awesome.

It also can be hardwired into your car using a special power management module. It then uses motion detection to wake the camera up if somebody hits your car, knocks it, walks past it etc etc. At least if somebody does scratch or key your car you have more of a chance on seeing who it is and if they get in a car etc....

Here is a video example I made for it... Watch right till the end and you can see an example of the motion detection. It also shows recordings in different conditions.

I don't wanna get slammed for pushing our products on the site, but you can check out a dedicated site I rustled up for it this week to read all about the cameras and software etc.

I wouldnt bother mate. They sound a great idea.
I ran a Toad one, hooked into my Ai606.

They are basically a microwave sensor, like convertibles have. So only movement sets them off, as opposed to wind etc.

They are adjustable, think of it as emitting a bubble, which is the protected zone. Which can be made bigger or smaller.

Generally they have a pre warn, which chirps, then if set off x times in a certain period, it sets off main alarm.

If you park in public places, it's always chirping away.

It doesn't really do much, certainly wouldn't stop keying, it takes seconds to key as you walk past. Sure, they would know it's alarmed.

my thoughts exactly... it takes a couple of seconds to key a car in which it can and usually is done while they walk past. as for the in-car camera i like the idea but again a key wont even set off the motion sensor on it. its sad and unfortunate that nothing can be done to prevent the jealous scum that key cars... i wish i caught one doing it though regardless of whose car it is.... would love to break the bones their hands :ninja:

I agree the key isn't much movement but if they do walk towards the car from the front at least you might have a chance of capturing who it was. Just an idea to throw out there as another option.

I agree with most of the guys, firstly obviously they are absolute douches!! But secondly, put yourself in the mind of one the idiots who do this kind of thing, a motion sensor wouldn't stop you, it would probably make it worse.

The camera on the other hand sounds like a very good idea! Especially if its triggered by someone bumping into the car or whatever, may not stop keying but would certainly help against these kinds of things.

Could get one max and paddy style 'get back ya ba**ard, ill break your legs'
