So finally got round to getting tyres for the A5 wheels. Personally I think they look pretty cool, the wheels are 18" 9J ET29 and the tyres are (stretched) 225/40/18.

What do people think? Oh and the car is on coilovers, with the rear sitting at its highest :crying:

love the wheeels very nice shame about the kerbing but thats what happens when you go for the stretched look . the stretched looks not for me i would not dream of buying a tyre without rim protectors and tyres that fit the wheels properly . all that said the wheels are very nice

they look cool m8 there a good combination and well suited if you ask me.....

Yeah unfortunately they were kerbed already but then again they wheels were only £250 on ebay! Its only a mild stretch on the tyre but it was needed unless the tyre scrubbed on the arch...

Like the wheels, not the tyres, I'm running 235 section on my 18's (only 8J) which is Audi's recommendation, let alone a 225 on a 9J....

I like them.

Far be it from me to doubt you, but they really don't look like they're 9J at ET29.....? They don't seem to sit out any further than my 8J ET35's especially for a 9J wheel. Also I'm sure 225 tyres on a 9J wheel would have a lot more stretch than that.

yep as james says they dont look 9j
id say 8j
should be more poke with a 9 on et29 and you would have big stretch

They look great..... slightly off topic but do you have a pic of the rear of your car ??? i'm part way into colour coding all the lower plastics on my car but before i do the rear valance i want to make some some cut outs and fit some exhaust tips.... yours is the first i've seen with the standard valance like mine but with twin exhaust outlets

Mark have a search for post by Paul20v - he did that exact mod to his.

Yeah I know what your saying but I've measured them and they're definitely 9" across. Apparently a friend from ED38 had a look on the Audi parts database (or something like this) and it says they're 9J et29. Also, the bloke who was putting the tyres on said he thought they would have a bit more stretch on them so maybe its just a slight difference with the brand (Achilles)...

Should be having a refurb anyhow during the summer along with a full respray of the car. Wheels might end up a lairy colour... And sitting higher in the arches...

Very strange, if they're made by Achilles then they're not genuine wheels so I wouldn't necessarily trust the accuracy of the parts database.

Define lairy? Any colour other than silver will ruin them in my opinion.

No you misunderstand me. The wheels are genuine OEM made for Audi by Speedline, the tyres are Achilles which the fitter thought would have more stretch. Yeah the colour will stay silver for the near future but I tend to like to do things differently but don't worry, I'll be photoshopping any plans I have first...

cheers for the info James..... had a search and it looks like all his images have been removed.... not to worry, gona do it anyway..... i got the gist from his post's though that he didn't already dual tips on a 1.9 tdi ???? mine does , is this the norm ??? maybe because it's quattro perhaps

Looks good ! Just shows un painted lowers can work !

That looks class mate. Really liking the wheels, lows and the textured bottoms.

I think they're 8.5J, ET29

I like them.

The look VERY nice!

I'm just not sure about the stretch: if I could get those in 8J and something closer to ET40, so they would take a 235/40/18 tyre, then I'd be on them in a shot!

yeah the offset is a bit of a bummer, the fitment looks nice with the stretch. They had 245/40/18 on before but they scrubbed on the wheelarch so either needed the stretched tyres of would have had to get the arches rolled. The backs weren't too bad with the factory camber adjust and with 235/40/18 I'd imagine they would be close but alright. However on the front where there is no factory camber adjust they poked out just a bit too far. Not sure whether you could get a small amount machined from the face that sits against the hub?

which part of the wheel did you measure as 9"?

Ah yes here is the part I am unsure about, I measure from outer edge to outer edge which I thought may not be the case when finding out the width in J. Is this the case?

Easiest way to know the 'official' width is to look for the stamps on the back of the wheels.

Also, the 'J' part has nothing to do with the width, it just the shape of the rim where it meets the tyre iirc. I guess it's just become habit for us all to '8.5J' etc as then we know we mean width

I guess his Photobucket account has expired.

Spot on re the exhausts, all quattro models have an exit on either side, plus the 1.8T and 2.5TDi in fwd guise.
