Standard seat vs bucket

Looking for further input to potential RS3 purchase!

I have now found another RS3 available and local to me, so I am starting to have choices to consider.

One car has the standard seats, the other has the bucket seats. How much adjustability is there in each seat? Especially with regards to lumbar support? Is there any common wisdom regarding the relative comfort of each?

My current TTS and my previous A3 3.2Q were both with the full electric seats and very comfortable (the A3 more than the TTS to be honest). I do a lot of miles each year (20k usually) so long distance comfort is essential to me, and hard to verify on any kind of test drive.

Any opinions to share?

AFAIK lumbar adjustment is an optional extra on both standard and bucket seats. I certainly didn't have lumbar adjustment on my previous S3 with standard manual seats, nor do I have it with manual bucket seats in the RS3. Personally, I find the buckets to be more supportive on the back than standard ones, but that's just my opinion.

I'll give a big vote for the bucket seats, they were an essential item for me, I'm glad I've got them when using all the grip available. There is plenty of adjustment to get comfortable they recline & height adjust - not like the fixed buckets in the TT quattro Sport which my mrs was no fan of.

There is lumbar support built in to the seat but it's not adjustable so I guess it's all about body size and shape. I have suffered leg pain from some cars but I get none with the buckets.

I chose not to have buckets in the end - I do miss them when I'm really pressing on. But, the Buckets in the RS4 I had were a nightmare after I'd sat in them for half an hour or so - I just found them really uncomfortable after a while sadly.

I don't miss the bloomin things squeaking off and on for two years either!

i spend 3 hours a day in my car and im the size of shrek so i wanted the standard seats which are superb, very supporting (far better than the S3 seats) and comfy on long trips

DO NOT get the standard seats with electric height adjustment as they raise the seat massively

i prefer seats with out electric lumbar support as i can never get it right lol

the buckets look the part, and should be comfy if you have the build of a girl

I guess I'll just have to try the seats and see. Today I spent 4.5 hrs driving and that isn't too unusual for me so seat comfort is #1 priority what ever I end up with.

Best bet to try them both.

We have buckets in ours and popped up to Accrington yesterday, i've just had an op on my back so getting ther seating was important but the journey up and back was fine and we both got out of the car at home without any problems or aches.

There is no lumbar support standard or optional for the buckets. Also having driven cars with both the standard seats and Buckets, I prefer the buckets.

Oh and get the rear tints, in yesterdays heats the car was still cool inside. God knows what it would have been like without the rear tints...

I assume you mean sport seats or do you really mean standard. I assume standard option is the sport seats. Sport seats are more comfortable but in an rs3 or s3 i prefer buckets any day of the week. You can always get a pair of standards for dirt cheap if you don't like the buckets but the reverse is really expensive

Black edition suspension and normal seats isn't the most comfy combo. I'm 22 so no back, joint etc problems but I find that after a few hours I've got a few aches. Nothing unsurvivable, so I can stay off the Mercedes configurator for a few more years, but if you're prone to problems then I'd look for more comfy options for the seat and/or suspension.

Well, the buckets failed the wife test, but I have put down a deposit on a car with the sports seats!

I'm buying the car unseen at the moment as it is 200 miles from where I live, but these cars seem to sell like hot cakes so decisive action was called for!
