i need 1 more lesson on alloy wheels

i have posted at least 3 or 4 'alloy wheel' threads asking people if things i like will fit my car and
people must be getting fed up of it. so who can teach me a simple lesson on fitments?

with previous cars it was so much easyer, so im abit behind.

i have a A3 08 plate sportback s-line

i have been told the fitments for a straight fit is 5x112 and ET45.

although the handy 'stance' thread iv seen people with all different ET's like ET35 and ET42 or whateva,
iv seen loadss of wheels i like with 5x112 and ET35 but never gone for them because i knew they would fit.

so can i know 2 things pleaseeeee

i no it wouldnt work, but i want to no why......if i got a set of wheels and they were 5x112 and ET35, and i tried to put them on
without any special adjustments, what would happen? would it not fit on? or would it sit to far out from the arches? or not far enough? or not clear the brakes? i dont no how it works

and obviously i take it you can make them fit with adjustments or with spacers or whateva you need,
so how simple is it to get a set of 5x112 ET35 to sit on the car? what 'adjustments' would i need and whats the cost's like?

i sound retarted but i think if someone explains it to me i will stop bothering everyone lol.

This site will explain about wheel offset for you. Link.

So a lower offset number will move the wheels further in towards the suspension etc. and in extreme cases cause fouling on said components (depending on wheel width etc.) Spacers can be used to rectify this, and then you're into a territory I don't visit. I like to bolt my wheels straight on without mucking about to make 'em fit.

Edit: Just re read this and got it wrong way round (again). Higher offset moves the wheel further in, innit.

a low ET means the further out the wheel will stick out, the original being ET56, so the ET35 will stick out 21mm FURTHER out than original, so will have some poke in the arches, which will more than likely need arch work doing, by this is mean flearing or rolling of the arches, can cost about £50 a corner, maybe more.

Rolling the arches involves basically a heavy duty rolling pin that sits in the inside of the arch that is connected to your hub, with the wheel off.. and will push out the arch a little, however this can cause the paint to crack or flake which will then need arch painting doing, so when i say maybe more then £50 per corner, it depends how much you need to roll the arches to get the clearance of the arch and tyre.

if i didnt stretch the arches i take it it would rub and i wouldnt be able to turn the wheels to far left/right?

i dont know about spacers, im not saying it will definatly need arch work as depending on strech of tyre aswell. by rub i mean on the top of the arch, so when going over bumps or having people in the back your arches will rub on the tyres.

Very useful and I think the visual guide makes understanding offsets and tyres stretch etc easier, obviously wont take suspension into account but its a useful tool at least.

tbh theres none off the top of my head now because iv stayed away from ET35, but now i no its possible it widens my range so much.

would say 19's 225/35 ET35 be abit vaige?


standard s-line springs although depending on if i stick with 18's or go to 19's i was debating going another 20-30mm

ive been looking into the lamborghini reps, theyre 19's. and people on here have had them aswell but some are ET35 (more common on ebay) and the odd few are ET45

ok how about these AMG wheels n8:

18", 225/35. 4x8.5 x 18 5x112 ET35? i dont actualy want to buy them but i think its a fitment i see alot

If you want 19s, your best off with 19 x 8.5 ET45 and 215/35/19s and for the 18"s you can run 18 x 8.5 ET35, youll need a 215/35/18.
