Battery relocation

Im going through a wmi install at the moment. I think that would be a good location to mount the kit.

those batteries will be more than adequate for your use. go for it

AEM specifically state the pump must not be mounted under the bonnet Davidoff..... where are you going to get a tank big enough under the bonnet too?

That battery is also properly gay, and stupidly expensive!

This battery is 28AH, Im sure that you would you would need more along the lines of a 62AH + battery. Im sure someone will comfirm but think its a bit on the small size for a primary battery.

I am just gonna use my existing battery and stick it in the boot with this lot...

Just be aware with those lightweight batteries that you have to use your car regularly - i.e. every couple of days. Leave it a week and I'd expect it to be flat. Mate put one in his Cordoba track car and he got sick of having to jump start it every weekend.

I did what Tufty's planning in my old Ibiza and just stuck the regular battery in the back with some 0AWG cable leading to a terminal block under the bonnet.

Cheers Lads, i was concerned about the battery breathing in an enclosed space thats all, did not want to do 8 hrs driving and get slowly poisoned...;)

Prawny i have got the 5L kit same as westy...

Jason i can see them going flat quickly unless you have an isolator, say if your leaving it at an airport for 2 weeks...

There are 2 x holes for venting on modern sealed batteries... normally on a new battery the caps come with a little 'pip' to bung one hole up then you use a bit of tube out the other to vent it externally...

This is what I plan to do on mine...

I fabricated a box for mine and included a kill switch too incase anything happens
Admittedly this is in a leon and located where it is as i wanted to keep the full size spare

I didn't do any venting on mine. It was in the cabin as the car had no rear seats etc. No problems with MOT and did 5 hour drives fine. Then again, the Ibiza did have a few rust holes in it so it was pretty well ventilated anyway!

I know this is generally the feeling, but I have to say it's not been my experience to date!

I run a PC680 in my mini, 1380cc race engine with a 12:1 CR. Compared to that spinning over a low comp 1.8 is easy! so it's plenty big enough, and when it's running you're drawing all your power from the alternator anyway (or at least that's my understanding of it)

I've left my mini for 3-4 months at a time in the past without touching it at all, and every time the little gel battery spins it over a treat without an issue! Never had it drain on me, never had to bump the car, and never put a charger on it in almost 3 years of very infrequent use!

The problem is though mate your mini is hardly likely to have any kit that will drain the battery over time... I have left my Mk2 Golf off the road for 6 months... never looked at the car at all and started first turn of the key even after 6 months... the only thing that could plausibly drain from the battery being the clock in the dash... modern cars are seemingly always drawing current for something... alarms etc... I have put a new battery in the S3 and it still goes flat after a week... although I have a feeling the alternator is the culprit here...

A customer of Bill's with a fairly heavily modded Ibiza (K03 hybrid) had a racing battery in the boot and carried jump leads + a charger around everywhere... he has since changed to a proper battery as was fed up with it keep going flat...

Battery relocation (for me at least) is a matter of practicality... frees up some space in front for my future modding plans... I am not doing it to save weight or evenly distribute weight as its not a track car... its a road car... just keep it in mind the practicalities of what you are doing and mod accordingly :)

I understand that mate, and figured that would be the case. Mini runs an isolator, so absolutely no current draw what so ever.

I'm looking at fitting the same to the A3, but not sure where I stand with an isolator and leaving it power off for long periods. Will the ECU end up resetting adaptations every single time? Will that cause any problems?

I believe it will reset adaptions but tbh it won't be that long before they kick in again... I have left the battery on the S3 disconnected for 3 weeks before now... just a PITA to have to keep resetting the ****** clock lol
