Just a quick one, read somewhere about top mounts, is this picture ok?

Yes perfectly normal, allows suspension to move down .

Nope... top mounts are worn... I would also suspect there will be a mark on the bonnet just above where the cap is a bit like this...

The rubber mount compresses and looks like yours does... new vs old...

Should look like this when sorted...

On mine the bearing had shattered too...

Fairly easy job depending on your competence... remove the strut (loads of guides on the web showing that) and take it apart etc... here is a link to my build thread when I did mine...
