Hi.

I am about to get me some bigger brakes. Have searched the forum and find only technical info, no easy short versions.
My car is a 2009 A3 SportBack 2.0TFSI quattro S-tronic.
It is equipped with the 312x25mm disk at front and 282x12mm at the rear.

I have found on ebay a complete S3 set front & rear.
Not sure if it will fit plug&play hens reading about some about the hubs being different on some models. Can some one shed some light into this? Does it help that mine is a quattro?

I have also found a set from the TTRS. Its a bit more expensive but should look great and make the car stop not only once but always.

My plan is to use the care on track days and off course the show factor is pleasant too.
Since my car is stock 200Bhp and will only get a stage 1 tune it will newer reach over 250Bhp and the S3 have 265Bhp as stock. Will the S3 brakes hold for my car? Have read some wear here that the stock S3 brakes are no better than the looks?? is this true?

I thanks all for the help on this good forum and awaits for the feed back.
PS. If some one has a different solution that will work as a bolt on plug&play kit I appreciate this too. A 6pot setup is of no interest to me.

Thanks

if I remember rightly. S3 fronts are 345mm at front. These will be fine for the horses your running. I don't struggle with 310bhp ish.

I think your brakes will be the same as the Mk5 golfs? someone correct me?

If so this upgrade is very popular. straight swap... any bigger though I think the master cylinder will need to be updated.

Thanks for the reply.
So this mean that the standard S3 kit i found on ebay fits without any problems?

I cannot give you a definitive answer. but I know of a guy called "dave" who will know for sure. Other than that "N8" might know. ("N8" knows dave i believe)

or "MartayMcFly" had some carriers from dave. he'll have his details.

Theres loads of others that's will know the definitive answer too!

look for the Mk5 R32 brakes too. they the same. often cheaper, and a lovely blue colour!

Tbh, your better off replacing the brake lines with steel braided lines, upgraded brake pads and replace the brake fluid with a better fluid. This is the cheapest way and probably as good! Especially if your gonna track you car. and then when you do track it, and if it's not up to scratch you can go for the whole upgrade. And you'll already have the upgraded brake lines! :)

Fair one mate, if its a bit of bling your after go for it! Those cupra brembos look decent, especially after a good clean!! :) seem a bit dear tho??

When do I need to upgrade the master cylinder?

Only if you go bbk 6, or 8 pot brakes ,but some 6 pots will be fine like the vw racing set up...

Don't pay any extra for TTS ones as they are exactly the same as S3 ones.
My pal has just fitted S3 ones with SS lines to his ED30(also 312mm) and he is noticing a big improvement.
His master cylinder might be larger as standard tho but I'm unsure.

I've had no real problems with the standard set up on my S3 running Stage 1. They feel great when I've had to emergency stop...no fade when braking from higher speeds so S3 items should be fine in your car.

S3 set up will be fine! dont go TTRS its a waste of moneysssss. Better off to go with VWR or AP for that money!

im also interested in the S3 brakes but i need to know what i would need to go from the 2.0TDI 288mm fronts to the 345mm brakes? i heard that the main part i need is the carriers but if i got the whole kit would it just be a bolt on and then bleed brakes to get it all working?

Also can the cupra brakes be used? i heard they cant for some reason?
Whats involved in the 4pot brake setup?

When I had my 2010 170 quattro A3 I upgraded to the S3 brakes. If you get the full caliper and carrier then it's a straight swap on. A quick bleed of the brakes and away you go, only took me about an hour to do. It took away the sudden bite I found when hitting the brakes initially but stopped very well once you push on them a bit harder. :)

The S3, R32 and 3.2 V6 brakes are all the same as far as I know. As for the Cupra ones, I don't know so don't want to give you the wrong info! :)

the brembo ones are the old Cupra I believe. Do a search. "brake differences" loads of stuff :)

If you want Audi/Lambo 8pots you'll need to upgrade the MC to the TT-RS one as well for a perfect pedal:

But the R8 4pots are perfect:

Any idea of a rough cost of getting a set of th r8 rears fitted to an 8p s3?? Just for the looks alone gotta be worth a few quid

So the master cylinder doen't need to be changed if going to the S3 set-up on a TDi?

What do you S3 owners have for discs? do you guys just stay with the OEM ones or change over? i have been looking and found a few companies that do the 345mm front Discs but i dont know how good they are rated as.

would you guys go for any of these brake discs to make it look better?

Id like to bump this question.

24k of hard thrashing and my front discs have a lovely lip on them and pads are very almost ******.

Was looking at zerosixty discs, but they are expensive :(

Looking to replace with drilled/grooved.

Does anyone have any of the above that Ash187 asked about? If so, any good?

are you sure your discs need replacing?

They're not drastically bad, and could probably get a little more out of them, and plan to, probably 2k more.

I've been pretty hard on these brakes to be fair, done europe, countless harsh harsh braking, all at stage 2, and I feel i may as-well replace them along with new pads.

I've already bought some Ferodo pads ages ago, and they've jus sat there waiting to go on, but think i'll go the whole hog so i can forget about them for a good while.

I'll only have to rip everything off further down the line to just replace discs again, and usually its good practice to change pads at the same time, so makes sense to do it all now.

I've made this my second car now, so when it does get driven, it gets it big time!

Rears are alright!

My independent did notice how bad they were and said it would probably have another life out of them, but with large lips, but hey lets treat the girl.
