While chasing my friend today at 150

I've never been a fan of Boxters, particularly for the 'Poor Man's Porsche' stereotype that seems to follow them around.
My mate has one and has been trying to persuade me to go out in it for months, in a desperate bid to convert me. I finally agreed only this weekend - on the beautiful sunny Sunday that it was, I thought going out for a cruise in a convertible Porsche would be fairly fitting.

All seemed well, we went for a blast down the dual carriageway, and I have to admit I was impressed with the performance.
I was starting to think that my reservations about the Boxter might have been unfair, and then two stunning girls in a 911 Turbo Convertible came up alongside us, having slowed deliberately, only to point, laugh, and then tear off. I can only assume that we looked like the chaps in superkarl's photo, minus the smiles.

With my dignity in tatters, my views remain very firm.

Personally, I'd never trade my S3 in for a Boxter. In all honesty though, performance wise, I must admit it was a machine and a half.
Good luck with it all.

My Porsche friend has been reading this and he says...Hey, they're all comin out the closet on ' wedidlikeaudisbutnowwelikeboxsters.net' poor man's Porsche proper pi**es me off, a 2.5 maybe, but if they only new how many components a 3.2 shares wi a 911, its virtually a 911 wi 2 seats that don't get used missing.Regarding the calipers, a boxster has one of them on every wheel...... As standard....

Dude dont do it, but if you do split the s3 as i want the controller and brakes :) haha.

lol. we are all taking the mickey a little here, especially me, but its just banter.

in all seriusness, they may well be, and likely are, a GREAT drivers car! judging by the reviews and publicity they get they have to be good. much better than a standard audi s3 no doubt!
but, they do have their image, and they arent the most thrilling thing in the world. they are abit marmite.

If you really like it, go for it. who the hell are we to convince you otherwise, we dont know you and what you like on that level.
But, your s3, for less than the cost of the boxster CAN be a much better, thrilling car.
If you want to stray away from car modification, deffo go with the boxster because its a great standard, not so tuneable car, a little like the m3 i suppose.

best of luck anyway. someone will get a great spec'd S3

After taking the S3 out earlier round my local stalking ground for a little spirited driving..... I realised that I can't sell this after all the time, effort and money I've put into it....... So I come to a decision.... I like inferno pizzas but I also like Ham & Pineapple pizzas....
My point being that while I love the way my S3 pins me in my seat and goes round roundabouts like it's on rails.... I also like the smoothness of the way the Boxster puts it's power on the ground and that growl from the exhaust when you hit 4000 revs it's music to the ears..... Not to mention the fun you can have in a rear wheel drive.... 2 different flavours but both equally enjoyable in there own way..... So I'm keepin both and I don't give a **** if I look incredibly gay for a couple of days a week.....I'll still be havin fun.... Just not with Jason.....

I'd have a cayman S. Proper drivers cars and some reviewers even said it handles better then the 911. Bit more money for a cayman though.
Yep bit more money that I don't have at this present moment in time.....
I've got a Moneypit Club ya know Westy......lol Just the poor mans Porsche will do me..........

Agreed, it's simply banter. On the whole I'm a fan of porsches, just not so much the Boxter - my experience the other day, that's not something I'm going to forget easily... Or the general public...

It's an incredibly difficult comparison to make between a modded S3 and a Boxter and let's face it your posting this on an Audi forum so never going to get a pleasing retort!
You will look either gay or a midlife crisis waiting to happen driving a Boxter...... maybe look into the Cayman or just get an older proper 911 IMO but these decisions are so personal it's not for me to say. Personally if you’re looking to save some money you wouldnt be looking at a Porsche at all and if it's bang for your buck you wouldn’t be looking at Porsche. If you’re a modifier at heart you won’t be able to leave it alone anyway so should be looking for a sweet platform to work from.

Apart from the "looking gay" jab this is all meant in the best of spirits and good luck to you whatever you decide to get :)

So... how long untill you do your first mod on it??......................... Then the reasoning behind your purchase goes pop! ha ha

Don't need to mod it....It's already done straight from factory... It's basically a 911 with a different shell...
The only reason they were brought out and sold for the price they were because of the huge profit margin in the 911....
Plus I still have the S3 for modding....

Im sure you will enjoy it mate ...pics? cannot beat a bit of rear wheel drive action....i had a gay 2.8 z3 that was fun too...;)
There's some on the first page mate.... Got the hardtop as well... I think they look good with the hardtop.... Good for a poor mans Porsche what you look incredibly gay driving anyway.....

I had a 986 Boxster 2.7 and loved the car, but I had to do an engine rebuild as the previous owner had cut corners and not replaced the DMF when doing the clutch, it failed and actually ended up bending the crankshaft causing serious damage !

Luckily as I do everything myself I managed to rebuild the engine after sourcing a replacement second hand crankshaft and cradle from the USA. Parts such as the bearings and seals were surprisingly cheap from porsche directly but it was one hell of a job to do the rebuild !

It's just a great fun car to drive mate isn't it..... The Boxster S is essentially a 911 with a different shell....
Although Boxster is not a flavour that goes down well with the diehard S3ers...
Perish the thought of me selling mine for a Boxster.... I couldnt in the end... Because simply I love my S3 to much.... I've done 43000 miles in it in the 2 years I've had it and loved every minute of it...

Ahh ok whats the weight difference between the boxter and 911?

So your keeping the s3 too, least your not turning totally gay phew! But does that make you bi? lol
