I have always looked upon the TT footrest with envy and wanted to do something about it.

So here goes...

I bought this TT footrest plate (product number 8N2 864 891) from ebay - paid £16

I today, at about 2pm, I took the S3 8l footrest off to compare sizing. It's easy to do, with torx screw into the top of the footrest and flat head plastic bolt on the side. The full TT footrest does not fit at all as it is much wider (and over £100 from stealership).

You will notice it needs to be cut down. There are 4 overhang bits on the side where it used to sit in a TT footrest...

And on the reverse, you can see the massive overhang which will need to be trimmed to fit.

The steel is quite thick and I considered doing it myself but wanted a good finish which, ultimately, put me off as the tools necessary was a ball ache. I called around some engineering companies, went to a few hardware shops, discussed options and then got referred to a blacksmith. Immediately thought of medieval england but popped around to local guy. He said he could do it, so I marker penned around where the incisions were required and he told me to come back in an hour.

So is the guy doing it now as we speak jimbo?

So...I popped back at around 3:30pm. Paid £15 cash, grabbed some scissors and picked up some strong adhesive from a local hardware shop to glue the rubber to the steel and the rubber/steel to the old plastic S3 8L footrest. All items used below, including the newly trimmed TT footrest plate.

pre install...area where it will eventually go...

Scissor cut rubber which came with the TT footrest and what will be glued beneath to ensure that it is fixed securely.

Glue mixed (very strong stuff) and drying in the kitchen at around 4pm.

7pm tonight and ready for install

And finally, screwed down with the two existing fixing bolts.

I can't quite believe how tidy it looks.

Cost:-

TT footrest plate - £16
Glue - £2.49
Blacksmith - £15

Total - £33.49

Time to do - 5 hours (1 hour labour - 4 hours glue bonding time)

Can't recommend it highly enough to finish the cabin off.

The blacksmith did the cutting...i did the rest mate. I thought blacksmiths perished in the medieval ages...now i know that if i want to tinker with any other metalwork...i'll be straight around to him.

It took him about 30mins. It's a case of tools and the know how. His workshop was amazing, they can literally make anything out if metal. It also made the engineers i spoke to sound like complete idiots. He just said £15 and 30 mins. The rest said that it could be done blah blah blah...guess that they couldn't be bothered. I just persisted to see if it could be done and it's easy.

The finish was quality.

Looks good with the TT pedals.... I have them as well... More money to spend....lol

Well done mate, looks banging, ill now be on the hunt for a foot rest and black smith haha.

Very nice mate was only thinking about this earlier this week when I was doing my clutch pedal :)

Think prices for TT foot rests are now set to rise on eBay ;)

Thanks. It's so easy to do, i just Wish that I'd done it earlier now.

I'll take a better picture tomorrow.

Great effort mate, but personally not for me. A little off topic though...where did you get your S3 mats from?

A guy from Hamburg Germany. Listed on ebay under Castor2710. He produces them ocassionally and to very high quality. Normally charges about £45 for a full set. I think Dani had bought some too in the past and I can recommend them. I'll probably buy myself another spare driver's side one too shortly.

Check my progress thread for better pics here:-

Yup jims right, i bought the old style about 3 years ago, just bought a brand new set and love them, my old sets for sale but the drivers side has seen better days.

Ive got a set at home unfitted. Don't want to ruin them lol

Cant find no footrest on egay :(.

Try the Stealerships for the part.

I listed the part number at the top.

Hopefully they'll stock the TT footrest plate separately from the main TT footrest. Can't see why not.

Together it's stupid money...£100 odd quid.
