AUM Engine - What can be removed?

I'm looking at 'simplfying' the AUM engine in my 2001 A3 such as removing the unnecessary parts. Please add to this list if anything else can be removed and the stages needed to remove it all;

- Secondary Air Intake (SAI)
- N249 Bypass

Whilst doing this, I'm wanting to carry out the following;

- Samco Coolant Hose Kit [possibly]
- Turbo Intake Pipe
- Boost Hoses
- Replacement Air-Ducting (AirBox)
- Fuel Filter
- Hockey-Puck Valve Clean
- Readdaptation
- Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) Clean
- Brake Fluid [possible]
- Ultrasonic Clean

During this is their any advice I would need and anything else that is worth carrying out during this process. I'd like to remove the AirCon system aswell but that will come if necessary.

I have quite a fair few parts already collected ready to be fitted. But a list of any replacment seals/clips would be greatly helpful.

Hi dude, yup good list, id say add a catch tank to simplify the pcv system. Get the 007p(the best one) or 008 if you like to waste money.
Then buy the ultrasonic cleaner as they are cheap put the injectors through a few times as it takes awhile. Check the stickys as they have loads of info.

Whats your plans for the car? Any pics? We all like a pic whore round here lol

Yo mate. The catch can is a good plan. Didn't think of that. How much is the ultrasonic cleaner? Cheers!

I heard about the removal of this. Are there any specific stages required for this? I'm just wondering where I can best locate it! Cheers dude!
 
When you open the bonet its right infront of the coolant tank,closest to the headlight.there guides on her showing how its done
 
I think there around £20 if that for the ultrasonic cleaner, mines from lidal lol. And catch tanks on ebay, buy a good one with baffles. Post some pics in the a3/s3 pics in the stickeys, il no doubt see them. Loads of guides in the stickies for all the jobs mentioned on here.
 
Never realised there was a guide for the charcoal cannister (knew where it was anyways but cheers Paradox).

I'll post some new pics in there soon. I think I have a thread somewhere but I'll have to find it.
 
I have gathered cable ties and I have gathered jubilee clips from ScrewFix (assuming the Jubilee Clips from there are decent?)

I'm currently hunting around for T-Piece connecters and plastic joiners as such. Any ideas where is best to locate these?

The above is the current set-up I have that Awesome GTi fitted as a favour but it's starting to nearly 'melt-through' so need to replace. Would this piece be a T-buzz or just a standard basic T-Piece? If it makes any difference it was connected just after the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Well I sorted the above issue but I'm sure I still have a boost leak from somewhere as Paradox mentioned in another thread.

Looking into doing the N249 bypass valve and SAI removal in next week :)

will you be removing egr valve from the side of the head?
 
you can lose the n112 valve then and free up a vac port
 
If the EGR valve can be removed then yes. What does it do. I can you buy N75 race valves but i want to remove as much as possible.

Unless its worth replacing/upgrading anything.
 
You can get a blanking plate for the SAI on the side of the head... don't buy a 'race' valve though... no such thing... its just a 'J' valve... 'J' valves have a different response to the normal 1.8t N75 valves which when used on older AGU engines with dumb *** ECU's (ME3.8) would give a bigger boost spike on spool...

ME7 ECU's (like your AUM uses) are less tolerant of these boost variances and will go into limp mode due to the actual boost being higher than requested boost...

A decent map has no need to use a 'J' valve

as Tuffty said, get blanking plate from forge for £20 and remove the valve. it's part of the sai for injecting air into the exhaust on cold start to give lower c0% reading at the rear.
