Seeming to notice that my 3.2 rattles like buggery for a few seconds on start up, then quietens down to smoothness, Is this a trait of the 6 pot?

Is a liter of oil every 5-6k miles .. average consumption ? car has done 65k

My mechanic said mine will use about that every few thousand, maybe its the cold weather causing the rattle. Find mines drinking petrol at the moment

audi will tell you 1ltr is ok every 5/6k
some use it some dont just luck of the draw

I hope it's just the cold weather. If not they do suffer with chains. Also my 2.0T is consuming lots of fuel at min. Lights on, heating on, radio on. Using alot of stuff due to weather

Could be the hydraulic tappets taking time to fill up because the oil is so thick and gloopy as it's cold?

Things have gotten a little worse any ideas ??
Car sat for about a week with no use. Came to start it today and heard this ( sound was worse at initial start .. this is the noise at t+ 1 minute)

It's a little bit more than just injector noise.

I didn't think that these cars suffered the timing chain issue the S4 has ?

Where does that leave me you think? Apart from in the doo!

I agree with the above dignosis of the sound, almost certainly a timing chain issue and hence this needs replacing NOW and before it fails.

Good luck,

booked in next tuesday. This is why you pay for a warranty !!! fingers crossed they shell out !

News in that it is indeed the cam chain which has stretched which in turn has ******** the tensioners & guides in other words the full monty. Cam sensors are reading odd values because the chain has stretched that much. Engine out job. Not bad for a car with 65k miles

Putting a call in to the warranty people first thing Monday ... Everything is crossed !

You got me worried now. Mines on 83k. Does it come up as a fault on Vagcom??? or will it need to be booked in at Audi to find out. Mine sounds like a tick. (chain on a sprocket kind of sound)

ok .. update on this . garage priced up new engine .. £8.5k ex Vat !

then checked out a thing or too on the back of the engine and low and behold a blocked oil channel leading to the cam tensioner. Engine flush .. new oil and bingo sweet as a nut.

Kinda screws me over because warranty wont pay out and it's left me with a 200 quid bill but hey it's sorted and thats good enough for me.

Brilliant news! 200quid ain't a bad price at all. Glad it's sorted :)
