Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

Cheers bill have googled as hadn't heard of them when tuffty previously mentioned them ;)

Will try and hunt a pair down

Helper springs are on the top of the coil overs in the pic below...
Coilovers.jpg

Notice they have a little platform/spacer separating them... this (on all I have seen locates the springs too...

60mm Id one yea?
I can get them from Eibach or H&R if required..what sort of raise are you looking for... or to ask another way how much thread length have you got showing below the nuts currently?

a pair I have on the shelf (used)
open 80mm long

compressed down to 20-22mm

When I measured the damper body it was 52mm but have got a feeling the top hat is 60mm but will check as remember measuring them for the camber mounts as these replaced the H&R ones

Have got roughly 30-40mm of thread showing so something that'll hopefully end up in the middle so have got adjustment each way and have you got a rough price of how much the damage will be?

Cheers Stacey

Just 2 for the fronts as ideally want to raise the front and rear 10-20mm and should have enough ajustment on the rear to do so

Sounds good bill do you think that these will make it a bit softer as well as that would be a bonus as the top mounts are rather harsh ;)

Stace: If you end up trying to fit short injectors into an AEB 'long injector' fitment, I've got a set of unused USRT spacers sat on the shelf that I didn't use when I did my build

I'm really not quiet sure how injectors will work out as after deciding that 630's where borderline and having to have so many maps in my ownership I have gone for seimens deka 870's which are a little on the large side but will allow plenty of headroom if I chuck cams in or go for a bigger turbo again as inquired when purchased mine the gtx3076 only has a different comp wheel to mine so have hopefully specced for future upgrades although bleak and unlikely won't require a full map again as this will be my 5th map :(

they wont effect ride... they will be crushed flat with cars weight.. unless of course you are actually riding on the internal bump stops now and in which case yea, they might...

Can't imagine am running on the bump stops at the mo as have got the lock nuts up as far up as the thread goes and then a few mm past that :)

Well an update although not car related :)

Found out that I'm having a little girl at our 20 week scan and is hitting home now gotta get the finances in check an find somewhere she can have her own room but overall chuffed and excited

Will have to get this project moving as got to get it all in place asap

Have spent the last 2 nights fitting a wellycooler, b5 tip, secondary air delete as well as n249 and n112 on a friends TT so not touched mine but will get my **** into gear and post some proper updates ;)

Cheers guys :)

Could well be straky's car ;)
Just doing a bit at a time on it, next step will be xs power Mani and dp and decat with possibly rods and hybrid?

Congrats mate! All my mates back home are having them now. Not long for me I guess!

Now you have to get yourself a Recaro baby seat!

Congrats mate.

Just make sure your eye on the prize and finish the car, the kid can sleep in the car, no need for a baby room etc haha :).

It'll come mate whether it's planned or not, she certinally wasn't but what's happening is happening so got to make the best of it :)

Did cross my mind about the recaro seat although the other half has already said she won't trust me with the littlan in the s3 which I then fired back as the perfect excuse to strip it lol ;)

Congrats mate,to you and your mrs,,,,wow thats the clearest scan pic ive ever seen...:icon_thumright:

Cheers mate a lot of people have said the same as all of ours have come out very clear and defined, you could even see nostrils and lips which really did make reality sink in ;)

Cheers mate but don't panic got all the parts for the turbo conversion afaik as I really rushed to get everything as quickly as possible due to the obvious looming second or third financial leach lol ;)

If it wasnt for the current situation I may have been waiting a touch longer and got valvetrain and cams, with maybe topmount being a possibility? But will be getting cracking as soon as weather looks dry for a week??

Cheers mate I think she must have transparent skin or something ;)

On a different note does any one know if it's possible to thank or like posts on tapatalk on the iPhone as I'm on here 90% of the time and feel rude not replying or acknowledging peoples comments? :)

I've not found a way to do it yet mate. A new version came out this week so maybe you can do it on there???

Well ****** car!

Absolutely typical on the way to pick the mother up from the airport clutch pedal snaps :(

Luckily enough the roads were quiet being the time that it was and had only got 10 miles from home so limped it back home which was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be and picked the other halfs Ka up to do the deed

Anyhows looks like I know what I'll be doing when I get up on my only day off tommorrow, searching through threads and attempting to fit in the footwell upside down :(

That sucks. Been there on my old scirocco, you get pretty bad back n neck ache lying upside down in a footwell after a while lol.

Brilliant build thread mate....Take my hat off to ya.... Haven't been on for a while bit disheartened by the S3 at the moment with all the issues I'm having....lol. But your thread has filled up 3 hours of my life tossin it off on Nightshift....lol....

I don't think we want to know what you get up to on your nightshift lol.

Stacey, if you've never done the pedal before, prepare for major stress.

I have 2 tips for this job:

1- make sure you remove the 2 little collars that sit either side of the pivot bar and transfer these to the new padal or it'll be wobbly.

2- use cable ties to compress the spring when refitting it as it makes it easier to get in position, the cut the ties.

Good luck

Cheers for the tips and comments guys :beerchug:

Managed to get it done today and welded up and luckily enough the white plastic part didn't break so all is up and running now :)

Sorry didn't get any pics in the process as more keen to get it done asap as i'm not the smallest of blokes to squeeze in the drivers seat upside down lol

Downside is my clutch position switch plunger has been broken off in the process but after testing it it wasn't working correctly any way and was closed circuit most of the time so will be ordering one tommorrow

I recieved my deka 870's eventually today and it dawned on me that i will not be able to fit my inlet mani until i change over to the taller injectors when mapped
Will be calling Bill to see if there is a solution or may have to quickly bolt it all on once at Badger 5?

Since removing the clutch position switch and fixing the clutch pedal the car has been really hard to start and driving like a bag of ****e untill it warms a little although it wasn't like this striaght away?

Its almost like there isn't enough fuel when trying to start and when it eventually fires its hard to keep it ticking over for the first 10 seconds or so and is kangarooing a bit when driving for the first minute or so?

AFR's once driving seem ok but is proving hard to start do you think this could be related to the clutch position switch or could i have maybe disturbed something under the dash when i removed it to do the clutch pedal as am not getting any faults exept the usual evap fault

Any ideas help would be much appriciated :)

get back to us tomoro then when you've fitted a new one
lol

hard to imagine how a clutch switch would affect anything like that though.
although people tend to blame the clutch switch for over revving when changing gears, so maybe there is a link

Yeah am wondering if it is the case as it's not even connected at the mo but thinking about it the problems seemed to originate from when I done a fault code reset on the liquid the day after I repaired the pedal?

Will hopefully fit it tommorrow eve but have got to get to work and back first and have to be there at 6 :(

What plugs have you got in? have had a few issues with 8's on cold start... bunging 7's in cured it...

Also, what fault codes? there are maps covering when the clutch is depressed and not depressed to handle idle torque...

<tuffty/>

Got 7's in at the mo and always started first crank until yesterday morning and has got progressively worse the last 3 starts where as last one I thought I was going to have to leave the car at work the evening :(
