Was wondering can you fined for using a mobile phone, whilst stationary and stuck in traffic?
 
if your in control of a motor vehicle then I believe so.
 
Yes I believe you can.

Need to have engine switched off and parked in a proper / safe place to avoid the fine.
 
99% of rozzers wouldn't do you for sitting in a lay by with your engine on but I'm sure they would if you were in nose to tail traffic.
 
Jeez, that's a bit OTT.
Eating, drinking and smoking should be banned as well then.

I'm not so sure, depends how close it is until the end of the month and how many tickets they need to write to reach their target!
 
Eating and drinking are banned are they not? And I think it's illegal to light a cigarette but not to smoke it?! :shrug:

Not that i condone using the phone while driving because i don't although 99% of us will of been guilty of using it at some point and i agree it should be illegal but what about other instances where you're full concentration isn't on the road IE turning the radio up, setting the cruise control, putting the window down or adjusting the AC?

It's just OTT, as 'Audi... A3' says, why don't they ban smoking behind the wheel or having a drink out of a can of pop from the drinks holder or anything which involves having something in your hand.

Some jobsworth bellend will be sat at a desk somewhere thinking, 'how can we make more money out of the motorist.. I know we'll rip them off further by doing X and then whack their already over the top premium up further'.
 
Anything that prevents mobile phone use on the move has to be a good thing IMO.
Especially the clowns you see texting. Never cease to be amazed how oftem you see this.

These individuals should be demonised in the same way drink drivers are.
The sooner it becomes socially un-acceptable the safer it will be for all of us.
 
and slam some heavy tax on us and ofcourse pay us back with smooth roads.....hmmmmm
 
Haha, I agree it shouldn't be made tougher as you do see it all the time and I don't condone it in any way, I just think they go over the Topeka sometimes, I remember a few years back that lady who got three points and a fine for having a sip of water from her drinks bottle whilst sat a red light.

I could understand at a roundabout but on the straight and narrow and at a red light. jeeeeze!!
 
This is going to turn into one of those "I smoke all the time and never crash" vs "smoking itself is dangerous and harmful, and it takes a hand off the wheel" debates, isn't it.

Anyway, if you're just looking at concentration, I should be arrested pretty much every time I'm in the car... my mind is always wandering (usually while staring blankly at a green arrow that I'm waiting at, and haven't noticed it changed).

There's no way anyone can say using your phone while sat in traffic has any impact on your chances of being in a crash. Insurers are just always looking for a way to not pay out on claims.

Descretion is the key here though.

Sipping a drink at a red light is one thing, I even admit to that.
Driving with your head down sending a text is something completely different and respective punishments should reflect this fact.

Agree with this.
Any changes in the law/policing would rely on common sense prevailing.
 
Have you ever tried driving at 80 on the motorway whilst eating a McDonalds. Now that's a challenge.

McDonalds while driving is defenatlly dangerous. But no man alive can drive home with McDonalds in the passenger seat without getting stuck in....Made even more dangerous by trying not to drop any crumbs.

Getting thoses few stranded french fries at the bottom of the bag is not how I want to die.
 
nearly every time I get see a vehicle weaving about on the road in front of me (and it's mostly van drivers from my experience) you overtake them to predictably find them looking at their phone! Just cos everytime you look up you think you're still going in a straight line, doesn't mean you are!
That extra second out of your reaction time can make all the difference..........
 
To be honest a lot of people on the roads around here don't need to be on their phone or eating/smoking/scratching their *** as they cannot friggin drive anyway,just my 2p

New cars should have a phone signal blocker or maybe with new mobiles phones, they should automatically cut the signal when it senses movement above normal human walking speeds.
 
Yeah only way to connect would be though in car built bluetooth
 
Good, I'll happily have this rule. Also, why are people comparing texting/looking at your phone to changing the volume on the radio, or changing the A/C. Sure it requires you to take a hand off the wheel, but it doesn't take anywhere near a fraction of the attention it takes to read a line of text.

Get with it.
