my avant progress thread

Been at it again, i cant leave things alone.
No more fried egg look at the front now, got rid of the orange bulbs and fitted some nice silver jobbies.

Before.

Next up was some tint, I wanted a subtle tint but after seeing the choices i went for a 20% in the end, I'm delighted with it to say the least.

When mine grows up I want it to look like this ! Lol
Looks great fella !

How did you get the grill surrounds black? Did they just unclip and you sprayed them up?

Also what size are the wheel spacers your running?

Is the 'fried egg delete' just down to changing the bulbs? Looks much better.

Are you going to Joey the headlights?

thank you guys:icon_thumright:

Yeah as above just change the orange bulbs for silver ones that flash orange.

TBH i wasnt planning on the joey mod but i have thought about a light tint on them, still undecided though.

Decided it was time to get back into some mountain biking, so after asking some questions on the best bike rack to go for, I ordered some aero cross bars, I didnt want bars that stuck out past the roof rails so these will do nicely, they are a carbon copy of the Whispbars, Very popular over the pond.

All fitted, next up are the Thule 591 carriers.

likey very very - cracking motor fella:thumbsup:

(you not worried about getting the bikes up safely?)

Are theses the bars off ebay?
I've seen them and was tempted but was not that sure on the quality or the weight they can handle.

I've been looking at the Wingbar allot more.

What is the quality and fit meant like?

I lift mine straight up and onto the roof with no problems. The worse bit is putting a dirty bike up there to drip down onto the roof :(

yep - i do use roof rack when carrying more than 3 but had a nasty experience with a bear trap pedal and a freelander roof:redface:!!!

thankfully i've got a witter detachable towbar and a thule tilting rack (for my back') which keeps the car clean:icon_thumright:

Got a bit more of the blackout done today,

Nowt major but i think it looks better.

Masked up ready to get going

Also got my 591's ordered today so should be here midweek :icon_thumright:

i did think about the window surrounds but i think i may leave them as they tie in with my rails, cross bars and my carriers.

Widemonkeys, i didnt think it was as straight forward as just popping it off, is it really that easy ?

It should be the same as the saloon for removal.

Use a flat screwdriver, cover the end of the screwdriver with a cloth to protect the paintwork, start on one end and prise it up, use your fingers to pop it off (slowly), work your way through from one end to the other and eventually it will come off.

thanks slappy:icon_thumright:, really just wondered for future reference.

I dont have any other carbon on the car though so it may look a bit odd, shouldnt really scratch though, well hopefully not.

Mine would be scratched in seconds, but then I use my car as a mobile skip! :)

Your car looks great as always dude, loving it. How are you finding them bars? I have some proper old school cross bars, so would like some more modern looking ones when I get chance to pick some up.

Cool, thanks guys.

I havnt had my carriers on the cross bars yet as they havnt arrived in the post, should be this week though, minimal noise and no difference to mpg though.

Think im taking all this black a bit far now:).
Its always bugged me how i could see the silver alloy radiator through the grill, and because it was a bit manky too.
This is what im talking about( pic nicked from the tinternet )

So it got the treatment too

It was cleaned and sprayed using a satin black dry film lube as i didnt know how paint would be on a rad.
this stuff is amazing, use it for coating offshore tools and have previously done complete engines with it, is stands up to most things.
it was only a matter of time really, but folk do say its the small touches that count.

I de-chromed my front grills with the stuff so maybe it would work for me.... also toyed with the idea of doing the rear Audi rings but i think they may be a little too fidly..... need some nice weather to have a play.... your car looks sweet though m8

Pretty pleased with them, time will tell how they stand upto the elements and washing though.

Looking good, like the black Audi rings on the back, stands out better on your car. Mine is dolphin grey so not 100% whether or not to do mine yet.
