so slightly differant, these have started coming out on the A1's and they work error free but when you put the on a car that had the halogen units they bring up an error which i am trying to suss out, so it may be the same case with the A3 8P3

ahh i was thinking since my unit is able to detect canbus units thiswould be a viable option plus its likely that if i used the correct carrier all i would have to do would be modify it for the handle / lock perhaps if one comes into my garage i will do some measurements and maybe look at making an upgrade kit

As I keep getting errors whenever I fit LED bulbs, I was thinking, can you buy standard festoon filament bulbs that give off a whiteish light or are they all yellowish?
i know some H7 headlights are more white, so I wonder if you can get festoon?

ive not got any laying around or i could of sent you one.

i will get the OEM A3 units from audi and see what i can do with them.

the only person running an led festoon in the 8p3 is silky s3 as he has wired up a resistor but the pictures dont work on his guide so i can see how he did it.

thanks

i wont do that for the heat issues, plus i dread taking thatbootlid trim off its a bad job to get back in!

A friend from the German forum confirmed that the new original LED's fit all the 8P's up to 2010. From 2010 it gives an error.

Great news - I think !! Although mines an 09 plate it's 10MY does that mean they're not likely to work ?

spoke to Audi Bristol these are on back order at the moment :( just been told they'll be in at the end of the month

I guess these would be a direct / staight swap for a 2010 A3 without having to worry about resisters?

Don't think so, Aky. The advert states they fit A4's from 2001-2008, so I honestly think they would throw up a DIS error, unfortunately. You can buy 18 LED number plate lights for 2010+ A3's that won't throw up any errors (without any resistors needing to be added). The problem with them is that they are VERY bright, ..like visible from space bright, lol. xx

Where can I find such marvels, Paullie? :p

I don't actually have any pics, Buddy, but I hope Grimp doesn't mind me showing you a pic he has of the same LED's fitted to his S3. They look great, but as I said earlier they are VERY bright, lol. xx

Cheers, Paullie. Sadly they don't ship to South Africa, but I did manage to find a seller who does :)

Coolio, Acheron! They will look pretty special on your car for sure, ..although I love my yellow car, I detest yellowish bulbs with a passion! xx

I've got these bulbs but with two layers of electric tape covering half of the unit still far brighter than any other bulbs I've seen.

Will any of the OEM ones shown in the first post fit a 4F A6?

Am I getting confused or not? The 8P uses 2x C5W Festoon bulbs for the rear plate.
I use the Philips Blue Vision LED C5W Festoon
They work perfect without any CANBUS problems and are good for interior use too. Fairly bright too.......not as bright as the sun like the ones Paulie put up ;)

are they 4000w or 6000w?

Righto. cheers paulie for the heads up.

So currently what bulb is "white" and doesn't flag any errors for a 2012 car?!

Work fine on my 2012 Skoda Yeti too.
I have them inside (prob not on canbus) and also the 2 above the reg.
No problems

Would be great if they did work. I know that the Canbus system varies on different VAG cars, for instance the bulbs that will work on a 2012 A5 won't work on a 2012 A3 (which IMO makes absolutely NO sense!). For some reason the Canbus on 2010+ A3's is ultra sensitive, throwing a wobbly if you even dangle an LED bulb anywhere near it, lol. It might be worth someone with a 2010+ A3 buying a set of the Phillips Blue Vision C5W's to see if they will work.

Mike, to date the only ones we know of that will work without any errors (on MY10+ A3/S3's) are -

1. The 5W ones Trups sells for about £6.00 a pair.

2. Polarg M28 (10x37mm) bulbs, but these are 10W and I know of one member who has reported the slight melting of the number plate light housing with these. I had them in my car for 4 months without any problems (I kept on checking them to make sure they were fine).

3. The LED units that I posted the link to above that can be seen from the International Space Station, lol.

There are numerous C5W (sometimes referred to as 239 bulbs) LED's available on Ebay that will work on 8P1, 8P2 and even on some earlier 8P3 cars (upto 09 plate) without any DIS errors, the abovelisted are the ones known to work without errors on MY10+ A3/S3's).
