Hey guys,

I baught a 2006 2.0T FSI Sline Multitronic with 93,000 on the clock last Thursday and I must say I absolutely love the car!

The car drives really well and I am reall happy with the S Line suspension as I thought it would be to hard. Runs smooth and power is there. No smoking or anything seems fine.

Anyway, I knew it aint gonna be great on fuel but come on, forget the first fuel up, I then filled up £30 petrol from ASDA at 138.7p per litre when the DIS showed 0 miles on the range.

This is what I used to do on my previous 2003 Jag X-Type manual 2.0D and used to get about 130 miles of local driving with a really heavy foot!

Anyway so I put that £30 petrol in on Friday and trust me I haven't been thrashing it just the odd time here or there but other wise driving normal and at 60 miles the range is now at 0.

So according to this MPG calculator online I seem to have been getting only 12.61 MPG! To be honest, I knew it wont be as good as my previous jag even though that had a problem with it which meant poor fuel consumption but still got around 130 miles and was expecting at least expecting 100 local driving miles with the A4 from £30 worth of fuel but only 60 miles??

I know I can drive more on the 0 range but that is not the point as I filled up when the DIS showed 0 miles. The range showed 95-100 miles when I filled it but I thought it would go up but it just went down!

I've filled up £30 again today and now the range is showing 100 miles. Its just going to drop quickly isnt it?

Is this normal??? Please help.

Sounds bad, I get about 25 round town out of my 2.0TQ, the worst I have achieved was about 16mpg dirving it really hard. Has it been tuned or the injectors played around with, my a3 had uprated injectors and pump and did about 20mpg round town. The MAF sensor can cause issues with fuel economy if it is unplugged or broken, got any warning lights?

running the tank down so that the range is zero wont help mate, you could have dragged some dirt through from the bottom of the tank and blocked an injector or maybe one is stuck open, at the very least clogged your filter

i would start by putting a decent fuel flush through as thats cheap and easy then start looking at sensors

:)

before a major service mine was pretty thirsty, but like jonny said, filling it up can get ya the best fuel economy. also as expensive as it is, i find that if i run it on shell v power, not only does it behave its self on tick over, its also 10 x more responsive and i get better mpg when im just having a nice chilling drive. Also higher octane is better for turbocharged engines as they run cooler. (so i was told) mines the quattro and i never average less than 28mpg round town and i only do 15 miles per day. tbh since i changed the plugs etc, its better on fuel than the mk1 leon cupra r 225 that i used to have. i can just scrape 300 miles out of a tank on v power, where as i see 260 miles per tank on standard unleaded. i put some comma injector cleaner through aswell, that also helped. mines on 89k and runs like a dream. out of 28 cars, this is by far the most loved car ive ever owned. :) hope this helps

On the next fill I might fill up some V power and use some fuel cleaner / injector cleaner treatment, anyone know anything good?

Also if the injectors were dodgy wouldn't there be some sort of symptoms? Even the MAF, aside from the poor fuel consumption of course! As the car is really smooth and nippy. How can I check if there are any mods on the car, I don't think there is.

I was thinking that after I put £30 of fuel in, the range said 100 miles so for giving 60 miles is quite normal for a range of say 100 mile right? and even when I drove off to go home, I drove efficiently and the current MPG computer was flicking around 25-35mpg as I went home?? So even on that the range should have gone up but it didnt?

Just realised V-Power has injector cleaner in it already right? So I wouldnt need seperate injector cleaner but could I also put some other sort of treatment in there?

yeah its worth tryin v power, i just put some comma injector cleaner in aswell, and just take it steady on the full tank, apparently it works better. i think also if your used to a diesel, the movement on the fuel gauge can be quite daunting lol. i suggest just testing it over a full tank, steady drive, then report back with your fuel consumption and go from there really. :)

The thing is, I baught the 2.0T for some power now I aint gonna thrash it but I will put my foot down at times because that is real world driving. I will also pull off at the lights and overtake as and when but generally normal driving but occasional pulling as one does with an engine of that kind. In those conditions I should be getting at least 20mpg, if not then to be honest it must be more than what a bit of injector cleaner could fix. It must be some proper problem, I would have thought injector cleaners and other stuff would gain you perhaps a couple of mpg at most.
Just ****** baught it last Thursday aswell, absolutely love the car but so so dissapointed with the fuel consumption and cant/dont want to PAY for someone to look at it right now!

Tell me about it! Proper ******!

Is there anyone who usually fills up about £20 or £30 or £40 or around that and if so what does the range say and how many miles do you get??

i always fill mine up from empty to full so £80-90 depending the range will say 400 miles what i actually get is not much over half that, usually around the 250 mark

thats mostly short journeys, normal driving with some spirited driving and maybe one long ish run (30 miles ish)

a dyno might show you any fuelling problems you have and obviously what power it is, just an idea

As per Jonny, I fill up empty to full (several times a week sometimes !) for 58L of vPower at £87 ish and always achieve 350 miles on that... it's remapped and I drive a lot of motorway miles. So that's around the 32mpg mark.

My MPG went up slightly when my coil-packs were replaced under the re-call. Suggest you get your car on VCDS and start thinking about what might be up - or get lighter footwear :)

I had a 2.0T Quattro A3 for a few days when my previous A3 went to the stealers under warranty.

I drove that car hard in the time i had it and the DIS told me my average was 19 MPG over a 3 day period. 12 does not sound correct at all !!!!

Well this time round i'm doing absolutely sensible driving and I will see what miles I get. 12.67MPG is just not acceptable, thats a supercar fuel consumption! I will try to get a VCDS on it and see if it says anything but I doubt it will! Next fill up will be V Power and if things don't improve I might have to give it in to the stealers, even though they will probably tell me theres nothing wrong and try changing this and that to see if it improves! and it all means MONEEEEYYY that I dont have!!!

Something to check that your maf is fully working, and/or no problem with your temperature sender/thermostat?

Right, so since I last filled up on Tuesday, i've been driving sensibly to test the fuel consumption. MPG on the DIS is not great giving me about 15ish average!! Anyway I was lucky enough to find a VCDS user locally and connected this afternoon. The faults found are below.

So straight after I knew there were faults which sound like they are related I started revving the engine at idle and I could hear a suction type noise when i released throttle and not just air sound also a faint click click click sound. So when I drove off I thought I would test the power and, behold the mid range pull is not there! Don't know when that started happening but a few days ago its been pulling like a train and I didn't notice the suction noise, but for the last couple of days i've been driving easy so don't know. Upon inspection under the hood it seems as if something is leaking don't know what though. Will take a pic and put up.

I only baught the car last Thursday!! I'm waiting for my warranty papers to come through and will see if I could get it all sorted under warranty. Or will grill the dealer I baught it from, must be some thing they can do sales of goods act or whatever. if that even applies to cars!

In the meantime, is anyone familiar with those codes and do you think its related to my problems? I really also want to take out the MAF but I don't have a clue where it is and what to do with it etc!

my last 2.0 t was stage 3 and i was geting 26 on a steady 80,ph run down the mway
and 20/22 round town

As above, if you bought it from a dealer take it back and get them to sort it.

Here's my fuel spreadsheet if it helps.

This is a 2.0T SLine saloon '57 plate not quattro.

Right it's obvious that my car has a problem. I feel so envious of your fuel consumptions, just driving it today made me wanna cry, the power is gone :( and I can feel something is not right as opposed to a few days ago.

However, tomorrow I am taking the car back to the dealers for them to sort out, they are about 55 miles away though :(.
I was going to take it to an Audi specialist Russell Automotive Centre but in the event something is not covered under warranty then I will have to pay, but the dealer said if I take it to them then they will fix it all even if its not covered as I did just buy it last week. Just hope there mechanics know what they are doing. I don't even want to drive it all that way because I feel scared if anything gets worse! Will have to drive slow though and they will give me a replacement car.

I took some pics and its obvious something is definetely leaking, look at the pics and there is also a small puddle right at the bottom its difficult to see in the pics.

Might just be as simple as a loose hose or something, bummer after a week. Once sorted you'll be happy with your choice though.

I loved the car and still do, just want my car in full back. Although I have yet to experience the real fuel consumption.

My DTM Quattro returns 32mpg on average. Pretty much 400 miles every tank.

On to your leak, look at the back of the engine where the pipe from the brake servo meets the engine. Stick your hand down the back there chances are you will find oil. (do it when the engine is cold). The brake vacuum pump leaks onto everything back there and runs down and round both sides of the bell housing and pools just where you've shown.

If it's the pump to variable valve timing seal then it's ok the new seal is £3 or £9 depending on model of pump. However if its the pump itself then it needs replace at around £250. Or you can remove the back plate to the pump and seal it back on with suitable sealant.

Thanks for the advice, lets see what the dealer does as i'm taking it back there tomorro. I will keep you guys posted.

you should be recieving 350-400 miles from a full tank to refuel light all day long... if not you might have a duff maf, cat or so on

when i had a boost leak my MPG plummeted, i bought a cheap boost test kit on eBay and once fixed the MPG returned. second check the tyre pressures, many garages inflate to about 30psi, you'll see about 5 more mpg if you run them at neared 40.

I also totally agree on the fuel quality, on tesco 99 i can see 400 miles to a tank, on crappy 95ron i struggle to make much past 300?

I gotta fill up today or tomorrow im gonna runa few tanks of tesco 99ron through her and see what happens with my mpg, as i said a few posts earlier i only get 250 miles to full tank at the moment :(

What was the actual problem that caused your boost and MPG to drop? Also how did you fix it?

Right, I got my car back today, they replaced the crankcase breather valve or hose, can't remember which one though. The power is back :) Will monitor the fuel consumption and report back!
