hi, ive got a a3 8l 1.6L, what would be the best bigger throttle body to fit?

if your going to say its not worth it dont reply, im just asking as its something that im going to do i just need to know which TB will fit

Cheers

There isn't one mate sorry... I won't say its not worth it (it isn't... damn!! said it...!) but there isn't such a thing that will make any difference to you car..

The std throttle body is about as good as it it gets unless of course you want to try throttle bodies but then you would probably need a standalone ECU and other mods to get the best out of it...

The 1.6 engine in these cars isn't really that tunable mate... sorry..

??

If its not worth it and not going to gain anything from it then its a total waste of your money which is true in your case unless you have already do a load of other modifications

What have you done to your engine already? You can spend money else where and gain more from other modifications before you do anything with throttle body modifications

you will get far with thiat attitude, fair play... LOL

If you have enough money anything is possible, but seeing on the 1.8t std throttle body is capable of flowing about 200BHP over std, lets assume you won't double the whole 105 you currently have. there really is no point.

/end

ive polished the head, valves, ported, polished ports, full milltek exhaust, hi flow race cat, sard injectors, higher pressure fuel pump, kent cam 270, new cam followers, lightened pulley, diamond racing clutch and lightened flywheel.

already got a set of dotz mugello 17's

is there any difference in size of the 1.6 throttle body and the 1.8? :/

Who did the head work? Yourself?

If i was you i would sell the engine and start over as you've done a lot of modification already and you want more so that T/B will not give you the gain you want and is a waste of money unless you go ITB ( one for each cylinder ) But thats expensive as i've been there and done that in the past with a ex project

I heard the S3 throttle body, along with the rest of the engine, is a good upgrade for the 1.6 :)

head were ported by a local machine shop, got a good deal as i know the bloke, done all the polishing myself, alot of effort but worth it, i was thinking of buying the 8l s3 lump? would that go in? :s and building it from the ground up again to exactly how i want, was quoted £850 by a local garage to put it in if i supplied all the bits and they would have it done in a day.

just set a pic as my profile picture, dont know if you can look at them?

What bhp are you hoping to achieve? I would class a standard 1.8t sport 150bhp to be on the slow side.

only removed the sharp edges from the casting marks on the inlet ports

i will have to measure it tomorrow, will the fitment still be the same?

polished exhaust ports, cleaned up inlet and removed any sharp edges and rough surfaces, polished the piston heads/sleeves, polished the valves to a mirror finish, was thinking about polishing the inlet ports properly but dont know what the effects would be? :/

No offense but I think the term "******* into the wind" is applicable here. Honestly, focus your efforts elsewhere. Chasing 1 or 2 bhp with a shedload of time just isn't worth it.

On a serious note though if you really are serious, then either save your money and 1.8t it... Or 3.2 V6 it... Or if you're adamant you want to stay with the 1.6, get some aftermarket throttle bodies and an Omex or Mega squirt stand alone management system.

Or just fit a 300 shot of NOS as you seem very F&F ;)

"A stand alone fuel management system, not a bad way to spend $10,000"

I totally understand wanting to do work on the 1.6, insurance possibly being a big one but I'd still wait and save your money and get a 3.2 or 1.8T as said above. Even better, leave it in the shell it's in and modify it there if need be. For god sake don't polish your inlet ports, try some mr sheen on your sideboard instead.

lol. Sorry, but I have to agree here. If your TB is 60mm like the A3/S3 one, it's a good flower. I currently push over 300 g/s air flow through mine - no problem.

"it has a cool air intake, a NOS fogger system Dominic... It has direct port nitrous injection..

Yeah yeah and a standalone fuel management system.. Not a bad way of spending $10,000!"

On a serious note, youve got the right heart into spending money and time on your engine, I give you credit to that, but on the wrong engine. Get hold of a 1.8t engine and go nuts with all the info here, you'll have a right rocket if you spend the money and time on the right things. If you don't wanna spend too much money then buy a 1.8t and work from there (prob easier but if your anything like me and can do with a lil project then buy an engine)

To be fair... if you are doing all this work yourself and not paying the sorta money it would cost getting 'AN Other' to do it then fair play... I used to do the same back in my Mk2 Escort days... built a 2.1 pinto and ported the head etc, fitted twin 45's and cams etc... granted in those days that is what tuning was all about...

We will always get the '1.6' tuning questions on 8L as its the nature of the beast with young people and insurance etc... but if you are willing and able to faff like the OP then I can't see why not...

I was even thinking of putting a K03 on the 1.3ltr 8v in my Mk2 Golf... because I can :)
