Ahh good thread westy, youve done some excellent work! Wish i could do all this but i never have a weekend to myself! :(

I went vibration hunting tonight and after checking the main suspect the DP I found that the mani was touching the firewall heatshield! When the engine moves on it's mounts it causes a horrible noise on the shielding so I bashed it a bit to give some clearance.

I can now get my hand between the mani and heatshield and the noise appears to have gone. There is definitely still some small vibrations from the DP which I'll address another time.

Car is bedding in nicely, done 250 miles now. Only 250 miles left till party time :eyebrows:

I'm considering putting the evap/charcoal can back in as I keep getting an ECL and I cant see any major benefits from deleting the can anyway. Does anyone know whether the ECU is expecting to see any of the air/vac that is removed by deleting the evap system and blocking the TIP?

stick it back in dude, will fix your problems :)

Also, man up and stop counting miles.

You've done plenty now, plug the N75 back in and go nuts!

Running in is a myth.....

and if anything goes wrong fred, blame prawn! lol

seriously though i do agree slightly

as for the evap delete, i've never really understood why, there's no benefits, apart from these people who are into their bling and want show winning engine bays. i say either plug it in if its bothering you, or cant you get bill to code it out when you go back to him for tweaks??

Its a minimal amount of air that gets drawn back in to the intake from what I understand... I still run mine as such but its just not connected to any vacuum source...

Its not gonna hurt the engine plumbing it back in... its fuel vapour at best, air at the least... not like the PCV which chucks actual oil back in which isn't an issue with a catch tank... assuming its not plumbed back to the TIP of course...

Happy days mate bet your really itching to plug in the n75 and get unisettings out and wind her up ;)

Need to go back to Revo settings Timing 5 and Boost 7 (275bhp 307lbft) and then check air flow and timing and start tweaking. The car did run with the revo settings at Timing 4 and Boost 8 which produced 326lbft but I was worried about the standard rods back then and my clutch couldn't take it.

I still want to get over to Bills to get it all checked over properly and ensure the fuelling is ok. But got a few things to sort out first. Looking at getting rid of my S4 wheels this week and going back to 17"s, also need to sort out the DP and get 4 wheel alignment again.

Get booked in to Unit18 in MK for 4wheel alignment. Ali will give you a good set up for up coming track work as its not going to be your daily anymore. £80+vat for 4 wheel. Means i can pop down and have a look around the car too :) Was that bung alright when you picked it up btw?

Mk is a bit of a mission for me even from St. Ives mate. I have a garage local to me that does race car setups too and they specialise in VAG so I'll go back to them. Maybe I'll use Unit18 once i've moved to Somersham ;)

Bung looks good mate but I couldn't reach the hole in the box to fit it in the VW carpark :)

You've just reminded me that I need to sort out that inner CV boot too before the 4 wheel alignment.

haha no worries. Still need to come see you to make use of your ultrasonic cleaner :p

Westy, you've done very good progress mate.
Did you run WMI when you reached 326 lbft?
I'm in the process of fitting the rest of the aem kit.
I'm going to run revo stage 1 and max it out so it would be more rod friendly than stage 2.

No WMI mate as the first controller I got was faulty and the pump kept cutting out. With WMI and the large port head we should get some good results with some added timing ;)

Really don't know mate but you should get a reasonable amount for cams
I went to the effort of completely stripping my head of all ferrous metal including valve seats, ball bearing inserts that are pressed into waterways etc and only got just over a £10 for it scrap :(

Valves cost £15 each new from Audi so I'm sure mine are worth a good £50 to someone whos bent all theirs? I can then just bin the head.

Clean it up, Stand it on its end, feet and some nice cut glass for a little bedside table lol.

Do you have any more pics of the manifold after you had the welds gone over. Were you able to get at all the welds or just most of them.

Its just I sent mine in to get done today. He is going to go over all the welds but there are some and parts of others that he said he would be unable to get at.

My BAM head that was removed had some bad cracks between the valves so is no good to sell :(

Is it worth me stripping out the valves and selling them separately or just scrap the whole head?

I would imagine that uber lean pikey map on there was the cause of the cracking... as it was to your turbo and manifold..
wonder how many others are unaware of theirs being the same!

You're not wrong there Bill.

This should be a lesson to anyone thinking of getting their car mapped without having it rolling road'd to check the fuelling. For the sake of a cheap £200 map it has cost me a new turbo and a cylinder head :faint:

I dread to think just how many turbo'd cars there are out on the road in a similar state.

I fitted my new 2nd hand wheels last night. I know they're nowhere near as nice as the S4s but the tyres were running low on the S4s and my end goal is to have some lightweight 17" wheels. These are freshly refurbed TT wheels with brand new rubber on so they will tie me over till I get round to buying some multispoke light wheels:

Thanks. Next plan is to strip the interior and get some bucket seats in but not sure when that will be as I've recently bought a house and won't be able to spend as freely.

I'll be buying a diesel as a daily drive and the S3 will become a track car once it's been on a diet :eyebrows:
