Hi all..

Newby here, I'm after a bit of advice, I've been a vw owner for 20+ years owning beetles, all marks of golf, and still have a nice splitscreen tucked up in the garage.

Im after a Audi so not going far from my German manufacture of choice, I've been looking at a few 02-03 2.5 tdi quattro's.
I have found one with full leather, tip gearbox, with nice few extras with full service history, thing is I don't know a lot about these, so what should I look out for, is the tip box any good? It's done 150k,

the 2.5 is a beast, the engines are not really thrashed that much as they are built to handle it, look out for full audi service history, the 2.5 can suffer from cam wear if the oil has not been addressed yearly with good oils, turbo units are famous for going at 80k and will cost about £400 for a recon unit, look out for any knocks from the bushies as the 2.5 has a heavy engine upfront and will cause more stresses on them over a 1.9tdi

so all in all, a well looked after 2.5 will go on and on, my 2.5 is at 216k miles and is as strong today as the day it was made, iv kept it in good health and i address any issue that comes on the very same day to keep it going this well.

Thanks turkster, the gear box is my worry, if it was manual it would be a no brainer, the car I'm looking at is £3k one lady owner, seems to good to be true..

I have an 04 111k and the box is fine. All I have heard is that this type of auto is reliable unlike the Multitronic.I have had the ATF changed although its not on the Audi servicing and it seems to have benefitted.£3k is a great price if its up together although I hope the leather is heated!!Make sure the belts have been changed it is due for a 2nd set at 160k and its expensive cos the stat and pump are also done.Mines had a 2nd change cos it wasnt timed right and now runs great. Its heavy on fuel compared to a manual.I also started with a 66 Beetle and now have a Bora V5 for the wife and Audi are generally on a par with VW but they can have some niggles. The great thing is the 4WD in Audis which becomes a must have once you experience the difference

I don't know much about tiptronics, but that probably means they don't get discussed on here much, which is a good thing!

The multitronics can be problematic if not looked after, but I think the tip's are ok.

My 2.5 is the wrong side of 160k now, it's had a new engine but that wasn't the cars fault. Other than that it's aged very well.

I have the 2.5 quattro goes very well munches up the miles do 150 miles aday and been very reable would have another one without thinking twice about it

Thanks for the replies, missed the one I was after, I can't post a wanted ad on here either, having a low post count, does anyone know of a B6 2.5 Quattro? Pref Black, Silver or Grey. Not tuned.

Are you looking for a manual or auto? There are a few on ebay but the autos are rare

You could always make a donation rather than trying to blag a free advert!

I don't mind either?

Quattrojames if I was selling I would donate, but pay to ask if anyone knows of a car for sale!

In that case I would go for a manual cos there are a lot more around and they are more frugal and you can use the torque better.I preferred mine but wife insisted on the auto which is a nice lazy drive and it has nicer extras heated leather etc
