for a while now I've slowed right down when driving for a few reasons 1 to save my paintwork from stone chips 2 to save fuel , now on my way home i only do about 50-55 mph up the bypass and i get people on my bumper when there is no one in the outside lane wtf like if you want to go passed me then do so why the hell are you on my bumper I'm going slow for a reason lol
anybody else have this too does my nut in lol

Just pull over to the left and slow down, you don't own the road.

Oh, a dual carriageway, why can't they overtake you?

I hate it when people are up my **** especially when i have got the baby signs in back window. You dont mind if your driving fast and they are TRYING to get round ya but when ya driving steady theres no need for it.

so do it mate but without the baby signs i haven't got any baby's yet lol , but yeah there is no need at all in it if you want to go faster then use the outside lane like haha

You didn't say it was a dual carriageway in your first post, but it does say something about the outside lane now I read it again.

Just turn your music up and chill.

ok i didnt say dual carriageway i admit i said bypass lol but yeah i don't let these fools bother me just seams a bit pointless when they can go around me perfectly easy lol

You could always pull out into the outside lane and see how that confuses them.

That annoys me too. If you wanna go faster that's fine, just overtake!

It's right up there with people who are in such a hurry to get somewhere, they pull out in front of you from a junction, and then drive slowly.

James, you have that happen too? I thought it was just me!

I also hate those ****** who don't like queuing at roundabouts and go up the inside lane and then cut in to go right.

As for tailgater's, don't you just wish you had a red neon sign in the back window that you could type messages on?

For example: back off ahole! Or:Double Barrel shotgun on board

You can buy them, although I'd probably advise against displaying the latter!

I get this too, only I'm in the right hand lane, so they have room to get out, and what the F**K do they do? Pull out and come into my frikin lane doing 30mph along a 50!! AAAARGH!

Most people dont do it aggressively, just generally crap drivers who have developed this awful habit. Best thing you can do is widen the gap between yourself and the car in front. No point being daft braking etc as it could just as easily cause an accident. It doesnt really bother me anymore

I'm limited to 70mph in the work van, and my absolute worst pet hate is when I'm coming up behind someone doing 60 in the middle lane. So I pull out to overtake, and they speed up! Leaving me to pull back in behind, and looking like a right twirp! But doing 30 odd k a year I see pretty much everything. My instructor always taught me to treat everyone else on the road like an idiot, then when you come across one you're expecting it.

Ok... If your following someone and there doing 65 in 70, like i do most of the time, its ok no? Ive no problem sat behind them, however 25 in a 30 and i wanna stop and slap the driver in front... I dont know why just hate it and on multiple lane carageways when there doing that i just think to myself how ignorant and a pants driver they are cus there scared of the faster lanes in their picaso or nissan bluebird...

Anyone can accidentally do it for a few moments. I just slowly increase my gap in front to give plenty of braking space and then resume my speed.

Had one knob on the m6 the other day flying up behind me in the middle lane lights flashing when there was plenty of space on the right. A bit of me was annoyed at myself for getting out of the way after he flashed me, but I was already starting the manoeuvre when he flashed

Tbh I would rather they were as far away as possible from my car, since mine is worth significantly more than theirs.

If you aint overtaking, get in the left, simple....

As already mentioned, dont see the point of people coming up your backside when there is plenty of space to overtake - use your heads people!!

This is because 65 is pretty quick, and 70 is quicker still. But when you are doing 30, and you know your car has plenty more, it feels slow, nevermind 25!!!

To be honest, with the amount of OAPs out on the road, I generally accept that there's going to be ones that drive at 5-10mph below 30mph limits. I don't like it, but it's acceptable. I find I keep a bit of distance from them, as they will probably not indicate to change lanes or make a manouver further down the road.

They are here to stay unfortunately, so just accept it.

That's the problem Nilzy, people are NOT using their heads! There are some pretty dumb and stupid drivers out there.

I do allot of trips to Bristol and back and I think no one on that road knows how to use the motorway correctly.

I spend my trip doing 75mpg with cruise control on and all ways in the inside lane unless I'm over taking someone or the road is to broken up to stay there.

The amount of people that sits in the out side lane doing 60-70 when I'm in the inside lane doing 70-75 is stupid.
There is nothing in the middle lane, move over!!

I've given up caring and getting angry, I just sit at my set speed, trying to do it all correctly and if someone comes up my add when I'm in doing my over taking move and starts flashing, I just put the blind up so I can't see them and carry on my way untill its safe for me to move in.

Fran, get a rear blind and folding mirrors. you can shut everything out thats behind you then. lol

I have always wondered how much congestion it would knock off if everybody used the motorways correctly, i think the people getting flashed in the middle lane means you really should be over in the left lane, even if the outside lane is free...
the middle lane hoggers are first to moan when somebody undercuts them in the left lane....

I generally find its peugeots, mondeos, and vauxhall insignias up my **** most of the time.

I can be calmly sitting at 80-90 on the motorway but they still insist on getting up my **** even at these speeds!

There's also a couple of German marques that are famous for tailgating...I won't mention it here though ;)

Tailgaters in a rush and those content to bumble close behind me when the road is clear - they are great sport and I love 'em.
Regarding those in a rush I just back off the throttle slowly to allow my speed to drop without using brakes and where applicable increase by a large margin the distance I'm driving behind any vehicle in front. Lack of brake light illumination and subtle speed reduction deprives the tailgating driver of any sense of having control over me by his bullying tactic of trying to get me to accelerate. In the reverse is the case i.e. the closer he comes - the slower I go. Me thinks that would make a good bumper sticker THE CLOSE YOU COME - THE SLOWER I GO
Those who seem content to bumble along close behind me however slow I'm going are a great source of fun. To start with they are always women or the elderly. The former usually in a big powerful 4 x 4 who like the sense of superiority and the pose value, but no idea how to use the power, and of course well able to fill the damn thing with brats or park up at the gym.
The elderly so poor and slow-witted, unable to afford the fuel to go faster than 40mph or cope with the traffic conditions of 2012. Only this morning I dealt with a backside bumbler on a 8 mile section of dual-carraigeway thus: happy to bumble myself at 50mph causing no delays as others passed by I picked up an elderly lady with 3 white-haired old companions who sat behind me and despite plenty of overtaking opportunities and no turnings off that she might have been waiting to come up, just sat there for mile after mile. Her proximity to my backside made me nervous so as with 'tailgaters' I eased off the throttle to 40mph - still she sat there - more slowing down this time to 35mph then 30mph - still there - slow some more until I'm doing 20mph!!! After about a mile the penny dropped and in my mirror I noticed she had woken up amidst a flury of activity, mouthing words, checkingher mirrors, lots of head twitching and then wow! the indicator went and SHE VERY SLOWLY OVERTOOK ME. The road had been clear for many minutes and I was tempted to slow to a stop just to see if she stopped as well.
Check out yourself and you will be amazed at how many CANNOT OVERTAKE because they have no idea how to use whatever performance their vehicle has.

Yep just cannot understand why anyone going faster than you on a dual carriageway just doesn’t overtake?

One thing I have seen more and more lately, again driving along on a dual carriageway (say 55mph) not a car to be seen in front or behind, then a single car I see coming up behind and yes it pulls out to overtake, BUT WHY DO IT CUT ME UP!!

You don’t need to pull-in 2 inches off my bumper!
What’s wrong with some people?

I think this is the main reason windscreen washers are fitted to our cars.

lol when I was commuting I needed to fill my washer bottle weekly with the nobheads tailgating.

I used to have to use mine a lot for the first part of my old commute: 10 miles of two-way, national speed limit main road. It was ALWAYS solid, at 40mph. You know the drill...everyone driving bumper to bumper, braking every two seconds, then accelerating, and then braking again. Leave your regulation two seconds and you could cruise the whole way, getting 65mpg+. The number of times I'd have a tailgater up my backside, dutifully wiping their windscreen every fifteen seconds as I gave them a spray, without altering their spacing, was hilarious/chronic!

I have a bumper sticker -"I brake for no apparent reason" Works like a charm.

As some have said, I tend to deal with tailgaters by reducing speed, they tend to get the message and back up, in which I pick the speed back up and repeat if needed. I find trying to increase the distance by speeding up just sees them speed up.

That said the opposite is just as bad, every morning I do a trip into the city centre, bumper to bumper traffic moving at 5mph. It drives me mental when people decide not to move with the traffic but leave a 20 car gap so they can roll in 2nd and not stop start. It makes the que 10 times longer than it needs to be, but what makes it worse is then as they approach a set of lights they suddenly gun it and race through on amber leaving the 20 cars behind that could have also made it through sitting at a red! Do this at several sets of lights and your journey is 20 minutes instead of 10!!

It is fun in dual lane traffic though when they do this and you pull into their lane and watch them scream and shout behind you that you have moved into the big space they have created lol!

i had a right TW*T on friday evening going through the local lanes by my town there is this taxi doing 30mph and its of course national speed limit so i go to overtake him so he puts his foot down i eventually get passed him then he proceeds to tailgate me when i catch up with traffic all the way for approx 5 miles i slow down a good bit then go back up to normal speed there he is back on my bumper i wish i got his badge number or reg number would have reported then cu*t for dangerous driving !!!

I did about 40 miles on the motorway the other day. Cruise control set at 75mph, I approached a 2011 Mercedes estate in the middle lane (inside lane clear for over half a mile) which must've been doing about 73mph. I indicated and moved into the outside lane, still on the cruise control, and he accelerated to about 78mph, so I moved back to the inside lane. This happened twice more, until the third time, when once again, I was in the outside lane, but this time we were nearing cars up ahead in the inside lane (doing around 65-70mph). Just as I came to pass him, he swerved into the inside lane (no indicator), and had to brake hard not to run into the back of the car in the inside lane! He then stayed there until I lost him in my rear view mirror. What goes on in some people's heads? :uhm:

Had a moron tailgating me down a twisty B road the other night. He was so close to me I could barely see his headlamps over my bootlid. I dropped my mirror down and just carried on. Imagine my surprise when I got to the other end and discovered said moron was in a police car!!!

So what your saying there is you were sat in the middle lane when the inside lane was clear? If so then I'd have done the same! That annoys me more than anything when someone is sat in the middle lane when there is no reason
