audi a3 Engine conversation

Do you mean the 2.8 V6 or 3.2V6 from the Mk4 Golf or Audi 8L platform?

The VR6 is from the Mk3 Golf era and is slow.

But yes anything is possible.

Ok... assuming you have a VR6 engine lying about and have a nuked 20v you wanna swap out I can sorta see where you are going... however... given that most tuned VR6 engines make as much power as the average mapped K03 20v you have to ask why bother...

Yeah, it will be 'unique' but... you will need to run standalone management (or maybe the original management if you have it) to get the engine running... you would have potential issues with the immobiliser and other such connected modules like the dash etc...

VR6 into a Mk1/Mk2 Golf I can understand... not so much an A3... modern engine into an old car is fairly normal

I have no doubt it can be done but as to the level of compromise for creature comforts etc then I don't know... I have seen vids of a twin GT2871 turbo'd VR6 engine in a TT thats used for drag strip work and thats mental but its stripped out and using standalone so all good...

Lot of work for little gain IMO... They do sound nice though... Arguably an R32 swap would be easier

Well. i was thinking of putting 2.8 vr6 and gt30 turbo maybe getting 400 bhp want to make something unique. and intrested how much that convo would cost including turbo probably even internals i have to upgrade?

Never done one so couldn't comment on price but you can get near 400hp from a 1.8t with less effort than fitting a vr6 motor...

Found this that may be of 'some' help...

Turbocharging a VW VR6 motor

Golf VR6 turbo

Cost will depend on how well you wanna do it and if you are doing the work yourself... you won't get much info on this forum for this sort of conversion as its not an engine that normally resides in an Audi let alone an A3...

If your goal is 400hp and you have a FWD A3 then you will need an LSD at the very least to get the power down else its pretty pointless going much above 300hp which you can do on a 20v with a hybrid...

Cheers tuffy just wondering if vr6 whit stock internals how much bhp it would handle? (just find that it could handle no prob 400 bhp daily whit stock engine only need head spacer. :)

I wouldn't take that as definitive.... best bet is to look on club gti or similar forums as fitting the engine is one thing... tuning is another.... no experience of these engines at all...

Well i see, maybe gonna be first a3 whit vr6 engine lol

I've already started my project on the A3-VR6T I've snooped around and got info that the stock internals of the VR6 are pretty strong as the engine was originally designed to be a diesel. I'll be goin full stock with simple additions like the rod-head-main bolts and a gasket. I dont know how long thats gonna hold up, but will be ordering forged internals waiting for the day it actually blows up!!!
Try check out this link: 500 HP GOLF Mk3 Vr6 !!
Its really surprising how it can gain that much with little work with the engine block. Thumbs Up!!!
