Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

Christ, it's taken me like an hour to read this thread. Good read though:icon_thumright:.
Can't believe you took Affy away from doing his ****** car lol.

Cheers mate I should have actually started it at least a year or two ago but thought better late than never ;)

Affy can always do with a break from his gt especially if he's helping me lol, but in all seriousness he needs to get that project moving a bit faster, I know he's being extremely thorough and should be amazing when finished but his car will maybe be a classic by the time hes finished lol

faces will need to be nice and flat stacey for gasketless. If they are it should be fine

Cheers bill will definately make sure that is the case if I go gasketless, do you think it will cause any issues the Mani port being slightly smaller that the turbine I know it isn't ideal and that the other way round would cause a hot spot but not sure how it will usually effect it this way around?

Little update have picked up my inlet mani plate from the machine shop ready for final dimension checking then welding, any hows heres a couple of pics

I hadn't planned on using the threaded holes and was just going to weld the plenum onto the plate but they had forgotten and drileed the holes in the plate to enable it to be bolted
Think i will bolt it for now with some sealant but the first sign of an issue or inconvienience it will be getting welded :)

I am in the process of ordering some bigger injectors as think the 630cc's wont be big enough or if they are wont give me room to progress with the build if desired at a later date so my new unused 630cc injectors will be up for sale if anyone is interested pm me

Yeah will definately be a more cost effective Mani than the sem but it is as cost effective as you make it
For example I was originally going to make the plate pictured by hand but decided to get it machined at a local machine shop as finish is better and could counter bore around the holes to give it more strength when welded (slightly couldn't be ***** with all the filing) but on a plus side future ones if needed should be a bit cheaper as drawings are already done ;)

I'm hoping mine will look as good as andrews when finished but only time will tell?

Well picked up last couple of bits to the puzzle i hope

RS4 MAF which looks ****** huge, coolant flange for the side of the head as mine was falling to bits last time i had it off, new expansion bottle (not pictured) and nut for my turbo flange which donated to a recent build ;)

Should all being well starting to take it apart once again on monday :)

Very nice mate.

Can i ask what part number is on the coolant attachment?

Out of interest, why keep the MAF? I notice a lot of the big power guys ditch it?

Gives better day to day running on these engines... its only really if you drive WOT or are making more hp than the normal MAFs can handle which on an RS4 MAF is 499gs worth of airflow so just over 620hp arguably... (although VCDS reading limit seems to be 364gs, useful info Mass air flow - S4wiki)

The MAF can be scaled in the map so its not an issue and when we fitted an RS4 MAF to a BT TT we built recently the idle was spot on... which was a concern due to the lower airspeed etc...

MAF less is normally the realm of standalone ECU's but is possible from what I understand on the ME7...

Sorry Dan must have missed your post yesterday but the part number i got off of etka for a bam is 06A 121 132 Q and i quoted this number to gsf and they had it on the shelf for £5.90 +vat, hope this is some help :)

Well Westy and Tam popped round last night to drop of some stray tools that i had left round there and was good to see the minger in one piece ;)

Well at the excuse of a bit of a late night thrash i offered to show them a different way to the A12 which involved a few nice bends and is reasonably quicker for them as was getting late

Well i ended up going bit further than first anticipated and went on the A12 to go up one junction and turn round and come back

On coming round the round about it seemed really quiet so was naturally having a bit of fun as is a bit wet and really gave it the beans back onto the A12 :racer: when realised a car also going reasonably quick 100m or so behind me and thought not to much of it but when they seem to follow you not to close but mirror your movement you get a bit suspect especially when you make a late dash for the slip road and they still suddenly follow, so of coarse i naturally slowed to the decreasing speed limits and soon as hit the 30 :busted_cop:

The bit that really shocked me though and does make me chuckle slightly is the fact that they're main concern was wether i had a flamer kit on my car or in they're words something to ignite the flames in my exhaust
That there was only a brief mention about dipping into 3 figures briefly and that the roads are slippery and should calm down :whistle2:
They kept threatening to get someone out to inspect the rear of my exhaust but to my surprise never once mentioned cats/decat so naturally i said they're more than welcome to inspect it and that they wouldn't find anything and that the cars running a bit rich at the moment so that could cause it?

They let me go with a warning after various threats don't know if i was very lucky, they really didn't know much about cars or couldn't be ***** as the second they mentioned flames i though i was going to get done for the decat but just thought id share my experiance ;)

Stace, you had some serious flamage when we were following you :racer: It wasn't much for me only running on actuator pressure :(

By the way I found you red box of odd nuts and bolts still in my car. I'll return it to you ASAP.

I think i will miss all the flaming once she's got the garrett on and running cooler but will be for the better and may even improve my fuel economy? lol

Yeah that did cross my mind when we came up behind the beemer not long before all the twisty's :(

Will have to for a blast at some point when they're both done and healthy ;)

Yeah i completely forgot about the nuts and bolts, theres not a major need or them as don't need them for work but do use them at home occassionally :)

Suppose its an excuse to run it in quicker and wind the boost up :racer:

You'll still flame with the Garrett mate. Mine and Tam's flames on the K04 ever since going de-cat ;)

Yeah true that but suspect it will definately be a lot less as hopefully the new setup should flow better and not see me riding egt protection regularly as hit 975 on that thrash off of the slip road last night :)

They're really hot on flames in Australia too. I think they can crush your car!

I once got a fine in the UK for "causing excess noise" on my old 205 that was running TBs and a lot of rpm. No mention of the excess speed!

They briefly threatened loss of licence for going over a ton or if not 3 points for speeding but iirc they have to follow you for a set distance and gap between you to be able to clock you and use it?

I'd be fudged in OZ they would crush my baby lol, but something to consider if i am ever going to move your way ;)

I love big flames, especially at night, although I do regularly crap my pants because I think I've been done by a speed camera, even now! lol

Lol

I dont notice the flash as such think i'm usually rather tunnel vision by that point ;)

Another update my mounts arrived today after 3 attempted deliverys

I also whilst had the time relocated my catch tank to make space for the bigger MAF and i eventually bolted the EBC solenoid in place ready to be put in parallel with the n75 once the turbos installed, i haven't bothered at the moment due to the n75 reference point will be changing as it currently gets the feed oof of the turbo housing

The car feels like a completely different car to drive now with everything so tight and planted in the corners but does seem to be a reasonable amount noisier but i really cant tell whether thats down to the mounts letting more through or due to my downpipe now touching a heat shield again as the original mounts allowed you to move the engine side to side on the slots where as the vibra technics can only be fixed in one position and the engine has moved 10-15mm compared to previous
Ive only driven it 5-10 miles so far so with more time will be able to coment a bit better

The old mounts were completely shagged so anything at the moment im sure will feel better but heres a vid of one of the old ones

Nackered 1.8t engine mount - YouTube

How did the re-mortgage for those mounts go?

Did they make a decent difference then? Wondering how much better they are over the THS or 034 ones? They're the best part of 500 for those two right?

Have been thinking about mounts for a long while now as mine where pretty fudged but had been uming and arring over which ones for quite some time and after seeing them at awesome for £305 delivered I just went for it ;)

So far they do feel so much more planted but after a drive last night can confirm that I'm pretty sure the downpipe is rubbing again :(
The only other downside is that you cab definately feel more vibration on idle but im more than happy to suffer that
But all in all am very impressed but not sure if I can really compare them to the old ones in the state they're in

THS ones are ok up as an up grade to std mounts on stage 1/2 imo... I run them myself but having over 350hp has taken its toll and after driving about in the TT we built recently with VT mounts in I can honestly say I think the VT mounts are worth the cash... they are on my list :)

<tuffty/>

To be honest it was your reports that swayed me to them as was going to go for a cheaper option but with power should hopefully be running and previous experiences I went for the better ones first rather than revisiting it and changing it again at a later date like most of the other mods I've done ;)

Well the build for this week has been cancelled due to weather forcast as really don't fancy taking the engine apart in the pouring rain :(

f6abdc67.jpg

Possibly next week or the week after as want to get it done asap but am quite fortunate that there's not many holidays at my work till mid may so shouldn't be a problem banging a last minute request in once weathers confirmed

My manager did laugh when he asked me why I wanted to cancel the couple of days this week and told him because of the weather, he straight away sussed and asked why I was taking it to bits again lol ;)

Save it for the week after next then you can come to Ace Cafe next Tuesday ;) Then I can give you back your tools lol.

Maybe ;)

To be honest if weather looks good then just gotta go for it but isn't supposed to be to pretty for a couple of weeks :(

Right opinion time guys what colour shall i do my rocker cover??? :uhm:

After seeing Karls i'm leaning a bit towards red but think it may be a bit much with the red coils? If not the other colour was going to be gloss black as already got plenty of matt black

Heres a recent photo and one of it today with the new inlet mani mocked up which i think i will leave it the natural colour it is
