RNS-E and FBMFSW into 8P2 S3

Did a little research on tinterweb this morning and went out and coded the car. Seems to be all working. I have ZF antenna fault but Im not really bothered about that at the moment. This is what I did.

RNSE Coding:
[ 37 - Navigation ] --> [ Coding - 07 ] --> Software Coding: --> [ Do It! ]
Adaption Channels:
[ 37 - Navigation ] --> [ Adaption 10 ]

  1. Type the adaption channel you wish to change into 'Channel' and click 'Read'.
  2. Make a note of the existing 'Stored value' (You may find that the stored value already matches the value you need to enter in which case you can skip to the next channel).
  3. Enter the new value required into the 'New Value' box, click [ Test ] --> [ Save ]
  4. Repeat 1 to 3 for each RNS-E adaption channel below
Channel 001: 1943
Channel 002: 43
Channel 003: 1
Channel 004: 0
Channel 005: 0
Channel 008: 255
Channel 010: 0
Channel 018: 1
Channel 067: 000
Channel 099: 0
Channel 136: 00013
Once you have changed all the required channels you can click [ Done, Go Back ] to return to the control module screen, then
[ Close Controller, Go Back - 06 ] to close the current control module.
Bluetooth Coding:
[ 77 - Telephone ] --> [ Coding - 07 ] --> Software Coding: --> [ Do It! ]
Adaption Channels:
[ 77 - Telephone ] --> [ Adaption 10 ]
Use steps 1 - 4 for the RNS-E with the bluetooth adaption channels, again you may find that the values already configured match those required.
Channel 133: 1 (Bluetooth ON)
Channel 134: 0
Channel 135: Enter your 4 digit bluetooth pin code (default: 1234)
Once you have changed all the required channels you can click [ Done, Go Back ] to return to the control module screen, then
[ Close Controller, Go Back - 06 ] to close the current control module.
CAN-Gateway Coding
You need to ensure the following items are enabled/ticked in your CAN-Gateway, LEAVE ALL OTHER OPTIONS UNCHANGED.
We strongly recommend that you use the Long Coding Helper in VCDS to do this.
[19 - CAN-Gateway] --> [7 - Coding]
IMPORTANT! - Copy the coding from 'Current Coding' and make a backup of it somewhere
Click 'Long Coding Helper'
Select Byte 3 (the 4th pair of digits along line 3) - it should say "Byte 3" in the box
Change bits 3 to 7 on your gateway to match those below, leave bits 0 to 2 UNCHANGED.
Byte 03

  • Bit 0 [3D] Special Function - LEAVE UNCHANGED
  • Bit 1 [47] Sound System - LEAVE UNCHANGED
  • Bit 2 [75] Telematics - LEAVE UNCHANGED
  • Bit 3 [37] Navigation
  • Bit 4 [57] TV-Tuner
  • Bit 5 [0F] Digital Radio
  • Bit 6 [56] Radio
  • Bit 7 [77] Telephone
Press "Esc" or click "Exit" from the Long Coding Helper Window
Check that the number in 'Current Coding' has changed from what you noted down (a maximum of 2 digits should changed)
[Do It!]
[ Done, Go Back ] to return to the control module screen, then [ Close Controller, Go Back - 06 ] to close the current control module.
N.B. We have had some reports of people not being able to locate the bits to change within the long coding helper. If you experience this, please try selecting the required options in the "Gateway Installation List" which can be found on the Auto Scan screen.
If this happens to you, we would ask that you email us at support@rnsecoding.co.uk to let us know the year and model of vehicle that this has happened to you on. Thank you.
Reboot RNS-E
To reboot the unit, hold RADIO (or AM/FM) and SETUP for more than 10 seconds.
Clear Fault Codes
Clear any fault codes as some of these generated whilst coding can prevent the system from functioning.
To clear fault codes, select the module you wish to check
e.g.
[ 37 - Navigation ] --> [ Fault Codes - 02 ] --> [ Clear Codes - 05 ] --> [ Done, Go Back ] --> [ Close Controller, Go Back - 06 ]
[ 77 - Telephone ] --> [ Fault Codes - 02 ] --> [ Clear Codes - 05 ] --> [ Done, Go Back ] --> [ Close Controller, Go Back - 06 ]
You may find it easier to run a complete auto scan on your vehicle and that will show you which modules have faults that need to be cleared. You can then use the above procedure examples to work through and clear them.

Thanks to all that contributed to me eventually getting there.

FBMFSW fitment next IF and when I get hold of a new steering module.....fingers crossed. Any one got one up for grabs???

Good morning Brodster, i have been following your progress in here since you started yesterday. Sounds like you had a real fun time with it. You have had lots of good input from the guys along the way. Glad its up and running. What steering module is it that your looking for? If you have the part no, put a wanted post in the classified section and see if there is one available. Very good write up. Maybe you could write a seperate post in the 8p section for others to follow as its always useful and we can turn it into a condensed sticky thread, photos can be included if you have them. Thanks. Sandra. :)

Cheers Sandra. I wouldnt say fun was had at the beginning but once I knew the equipment I had wasnt needed then I was like a 'whippet out of a snake bag'. Its good when things like this go well. Standby for the FBMFSW saga.....coz it will be.

Yes Mike it is the 8p section, lol. My concentration level is bad today. Im sure you will forgive me though. :)

User itwasntme187 has one of those steering modules in the classified section, dont know if he will sell it seperately from the mfsw though. :)

Just read this post with interest and i need a control module as well. Found one on ebay froma VW with the part number

VW Part Number: 1K0 953 549 AF - 1K0 953 549 AF - 1K0 953 549 AF

Anyone know if this is will work on my S3 8P to make the MFSW work as its doing my nut in not working!?

No it will not work for mfsw. I had that in my car and had to change to 8P0 953 549 F. It will work for cruise control though, operating in the 'alternative' mode.

Sorry !

Hey Dude, well done on fitting and coding your RNS-E! Sorry, but I didn't get your visitor message about this until a couple of mins ago. You seem to have it all well and truly done and dusted now though. Good job! As requested, will happily spread the gospel according to SHARK to anyone who will listen, lol. Congrats on that too! :wub: xx

Perfect - saved me £40!! Thanks mate!!

Just need to find someone that doesnt want to rip people off for £120 for the right one.

That guy on Ebay will not budge on the selling price for the steering module....A little expensive me thinks.

Mark, have you tried asking Nigel, user NHN if he has one lying around? Worth a try. :)

Sandra - that particular steering module is like gold dust ! lol It's the only one guaranteed to be suitable for mfsw.

No one has ' one lying around' and I'm not surprised the ebay guy won't budge because it's £175 from Audi !

Only possibility is to find someone selling mfsw and suitable steering module together and if you can get them for less than £250 you're doing well.

Not following you round deliberately - just seems like our paths are coincidentally crossing ! lol

It's a subject I know a lot about due to expensive personal experience so don't want anyone to go wrong like I did.

We are just both naturally helpful people. Lmao. :)

I can tell you that Ash is not splitting the module and the wheel. :icon_thumright:

And Brodster - dont get phased by the steering wheel fitting. I'm a total desk monkey and I swapped one over at the weekend on my wife's a3 and it took 10 mins tops. You just need the right tools and do it in the right order and carefully. I'll even lend you the spline you need for the steering wheel if you like!?
