Its not something I'm thinking of do cause I can't see the point for me but its something that I decided to look in to for cause I don't really have much else to do.

I did a simple google search and not much came up, just S4s and quattro.
Nothing for 2wd so I got on to ETKA and thought I'd cross check some part numbers and see what fits on to what.

I might wrong, which is fine, I'm just information gathering and brain storming I guess.

Audi B5 2wd rear discs are 245x10mm.

Carrier part number 8E0 615 425. This is also used on A4 95-08, A4Q/S4 01-08, A6 98-05, A6Q/S6 98-05 and some VWs.
Calliper part number A4 95-01, A6 98-05, A6Q 02-05 and some VWs.

Sticking with the carriers, if you do a search for the A6, the carriers also fit on one running 255x10mm.
Am I right in thinking that the rear carriers from a 2002 A4 will fit on to a 2wd B5 and let us run 255 rear discs?
I know the callipers will need changing but if I'm reading ETKA right it looks like it works...................Unless I messed up the part numbers and its just the pad retaining pin.

Any one got any thoughts or any thing?
I'm off to search for more random things.

The carrier wont go over a 255mm disk on a B5.

Theres presumably a diffeerence in the mounting points on the A6 axle, allowing the same carrier to give it the extra 5mm?

I think I miss explained.

the 245 carrier that fits the B5 is also used on the A6.
that same model A6 also runs a 255 disc.
since the 245 carriers fit both, I assume the 255 would?

that's also my thought but if there is a difference it could be copied with spacers?

hmmmm

You been searching like mad scott ?? your guna find a way arent you lol

Are the stub axles identical then aswell ??

Another trip to the scrappers for you then eh lol

ah gotcha.

The problem is the A4 uses a 1 piece hub/disk, whereas i suspect the A6 will have seperate hub and disk like a Quattro?

I'll get my laptop again. brb

The hub from the 2002 A6 is used in the passat 97-2005 and the points go to Aragorn with the 1 piece hub disc like the quattro.

Rubbish!!

So close...........But its the same carrier.................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just have done with it scott and get a quattro :rockwoot: Lol

I got no need for one and this motor has sentimental value, plus its fun trying to figure this out.

It looks like that every other motor that uses the 2wd stub axle is older than 2000 and discs are no bigger than 245mm.

If the carrier fits and the callipers fit, I doubt we'd/I be able to get the correct discs to fit.
O well.

Didn't we work this out to use the standard stub axel but using an early a6 hub or something so you can use a normal disc instead of a disc with built in bearing like we do now? Then you could use the 255mm disc or if the s4 calipers/carriers bolt on fine to the fwd mounting position then upgrading to the vented discs. If they weren't Audi only I'd try to order and see how it goes but if it fails Audi probably won't let me return them. Euros even with my discount were about the same as the genuine prices. Plus they'll need to be pressed onto the stub axels won't they?? Which causes more problems with stripping and possibly having to return if wrong.

what is the total price?

8E501611j Audi A6 02 Hub with wheel bearing £143.41

8E0615425F Audi A6 02 Carrier £77.12

8E0615423A Audi A6 02 Callipers £172.37

The rear axle hub/stub set up changes around 98 from a stub axle to a hub.
The rear axle beam also changed around that time.

If the hub and stubs are interchangeable then this will work.

sorry i wasnt very clear there.

The Audi 100, and 95-97 A6 uses the same stub axle as the A4, however instead of the hub being built into the disk as it is on the A4, its a separate component. 4A0501653C

My suggestion is that by fitting that hub to the A4 stub axle, it then allows you to use a normal brake disk. You may need to space the caliper mounts to sort out any offset issues that may arise, but it should be possible.

The best bet would be to find a pair of these hubs from a scrapyard, rather than trying to buy them new. Retail price on ETKA is £130 each!

Doing this what would b the easiest disc and caliper setup to use? Could you use original caliper?
