im guessing that the manifold ever so slightly altered the turbo to downpipe fitment so it was slightly different to before the mani?

i look forward to you telling me how much of a barsteward the downpipe fitting is :crying:

Odd that you had so many issues with the downpipe, mine was literally the easiest part of my build!

You keep saying bolt: Does your turbo not have studs for the downpipe? Mine was studded, so I just slotted the downpipe over the studs, and wound the nuts on easy as anything! even spaner access was easy.

Can't wait to see how it's gone mate!

Did you pull the slam panel? or lift the lump out the top?

Agreed....but the Downpipe is an a**e because of the prop on the S3. Getting it to fit right and bolt on the with the mani and shielding in the restricted space is an absolute nightmare. To do all of this in a weekend is an achievement.

She's alive :wahoo: slight blowing from the DP :( will look at that another time.

I still need to put coolant in and fit headlights and bumper then bleed the clutch and fill PAS.

Write up, pics, and vid in the next 2 days. As soon as the vid is on YouTube I'll put that up for you lot.

Brilliant news mate! Been checking every 15mins for an update!

Excellent news dude. At this rate you'll still get a few bank holiday beers in.

Excellent Westy. Lot of expense and sheer hard work have went into this 300 project. Now you get to enjoy it all. Look forward to the write up, pics and video. :) x

Another late night. Went to bed at 2am!

We bled the clutch last night and after a bit of a problem with the bleed nipple but the pedal now feels nice. It's so much lighter then my old DMF and clutch.

We then filled the system with water so we could try and flush any crap out the system before filling with coolant. This is where we ran into more problems. There was some monster air lock somewhere as the lower hose to the over run pump was cold and so was the inlet to the heater matrix.

After running the car up to 103 degrees for a while we managed to get a lot of air out as the matrix was now blowing hotair but the lower hose was still cold an the fans don't come on when hitting 100 degrees and the overun pump won't come on when the car is switched off.

We decided that we needed some revs to spin the water pump to help sort the air lock. I slowly increased revs to 2k revs and this is when a horrible noise starts around the cam belt area. I'll try and get a video of this at some point but I'm having a day off from the car today as I'm shattered.

Is it possible that the water pump could still be dry and that's what is making the noise?? I would have thought that a belt noise would be there the whole time, even on idle? Anyone got any ideas?

I'm betting the clutch will get a fair bit heavier over the next couple of hundred miles. I had the same both times I had Sachs performance clutches an new flywheels fitted. Felt almost too light but soon wore off and felt a bit heavier than OEM

Even if the water pump was dry it shouldn't make a noise, it's not like it relies on the coolant to lubricate, if it's was oil related then yes I'd say it was a problem. Is it Definately cambelt area? I only ask as the pas pump makes all sorts of noises when it's been drained until all the air is out, maybe it's that it's pretty close the the pump.

Oooo very good idea! I've not filled up the PAS reservoir yet. Would the PAS pump make more noise when reved though?

Yes as directly driven off of the engine and had a horrible noise on mine which turned out to be pas pump ;)

Ok, noise has gone, it was the PAS pump. Cheers Beachbuggy you legend.

Now I have an issue with the overrun pump not coming on after the engine is switched off! The water hose to it is warm now, unlike last night.

Fuse on the battery come loose or blown. Left hand fuse, green .

Just caught up on your build dude, it's ace! But the highlight for me is definitely the man hug in the video. ;)

How you feeling today dude? I'm still ******. I did think of the pas but I thought tam topped it up???

Aahh is this Pete?

Funny enough I mentioned about how the noisy pump made me panic when I first started mine up, admittedly was stupid o'clock when i said it and we were dead on our feet ;)

Yeah it's me baby, atleast it wasn't somthing major. How you feeling now?

Definately mate but i really know how all them thoughts and paranoia runs through your head when you hear even the slightest of noise after a rebuild, but am glad to say it all so far looks like sucess :yahoo:

Was feeling pretty shagged yesterday afternoon as got home and mrs wanted to watch a film and i kept nodding off to her disgust lol then ******** off out for the bros b day but did come home bit early and had a long nights sleep and slight lay in and feel pretty refreshed

Just got to motivate myself to work on mine next week

You guys there that late last night?

Yo guys. Just been out in it and it feels nice but I'm sure the fecking downpipe is blowing like a goodun when the turbo comes in. I'm not revving above 4k for the first 500 miles but it doesn't sound right :(
