Hi,

It might be a stupid question?! But I can't get the cambelt cover to fit.

Is there a trick to doing it?

This is as far as I can get it :(

is it slotted in right at the bottom edge? part of it slots to the inside, part of it to the outside.

Hi

Thanks, it's not that bit that's the problem. It seems too wide to fit between the cog/wheel arch and past the engine mount.

This cover was an absolute pain in the **** when I was doing my build. I broke one in frustration and wasted a few hours of my life trying to manipulate it in place. My engine bay isn't standard so that might have had something to do with it but I ended up loosening the engine bracket whilst holding the engine in place with a jack to make it easier to move it into place. I'm not sure if that helps you at all but it's what I ended up having to do. I never removed the cover on my engine when it was standard so I can't say if there is a particular way to do it but I can understand your pain! Just avoid snapping part of it because a replacement is about another £20!

Cheers for that.

Sounds like it is impossible then. I've spent an hour so far - and I wanted to smash it to bits.

If I had a dremel I would 'alter' it a little. Hacksaw is a bit too brutal.

Thanks, Liam

i fitted one on a TT recently, i found that it went on with a bit of manipulation/bending.

get the rear edge round the pulley first, then you can wiggle the rest into place.

it looks nearly there in the picture (as in already around the cam pulley).
when im doing a cambelt on one of these i dont even try to take the top cover off till ive got the engine mounting side bracket unbolted. and like wise refitting it. you'll just end up loosing your temper and breaking it!

Nah at that point it's firmly wedged between the pulley and engine bay.

So I need to undo the mounting bracket to fit it? I guess I might as well change the cambelt while I'm in there.

Cheers. I might try again but i found it was too rigid to get it round the pulley.
