hi there can anybody tell me if a s3 rear diffuser from a 2007 3 door will fit a 2006 s line rear bumper 3 door as im in the process in buying a s line 3 door rear bumper hoping the diffuser will fit thanks
 
Don't think the SB and 3dr bumpers are the same, so the diffuser won't fit, and don't think S3 diffuser fits non-S3 bumpers either. Might be wrong but I'd be very surprised if it fits.

Also, should have put this in the A3/S3 8P section, fyi.

Martay... you need to go to spec savers :nyah:

S3 and Sline rear bumpers (prefacelift ones 05 - 08) are the same exception of the lower valance so as long as you get the upper Sline rear you can fit the lower S3 rear to it.

Is it really just the valance that's different? Is it SB and 3dr bumpers that are different? Wasn't basing it on seeing them, just remember reading something about bumpers not being the same. Also, the diffuser/lip bit doesn't come off pre-facelift front bumpers so assumed the rear would be that same.
 
So the SB and 3 door rear bumpers are different so yes you are right that would need to fit a 3dr valance for a 3dr bumper, and a SB valance to a SB bumper.

But the rear valance on the 8P2 cars can be separated, one the newer cars its just one peice so it cannot be separated on the S-Line bumpers but you can get the black/grey inserts separately.

Formula:

(to be safe)
8P2 = 2006-2008
8P3 = 2009 onwards.

8P2/8P3 S3 3dr bumper = 8P2 S-line 3dr bumper.
8P3 S3 SB bumper = 8P2 S-line SB bumper.

8P2/8P3 S3 3dr diffuser will fit 8P2 S-line 3dr bumper.
8P3 S3 SB diffuser will fit 8P2 S-line SB bumper.
8P3 3dr/SB/Cabrio diffuser will fit 8P3 3dr/SB/Cabrio standard/s-line bumper.
8P3 3dr/SB/Cabrio diffuser will NOT fit any 8P3 S3 bumper.

Nothing else will work.

I have no idea where SB came into this at all?? The OP was about a s3 diffuser from a 3 door to fit a 3 door lol nice formula anyway ads.
 
so here is my explanation of this problem because i am bored!

8P1 = no S-line or S3 kits available... must upgrade to 8P2

8P2 = 2005 - 2008
8P3 = 2009 - 2012

this seems to be where everyone is getting confused... 3 DOOR CARS ONLY TAKE 3 DOOR REAR BUMPERS... 5 DOOR (SB) CARS ONLY TAKE 5 DOOR REAR BUMPERS!

Now as for the changes..

the 8P2 bumper was a 2 part bumper... the upper part (main bumper) and the lower valance.
there are 3 types of 8P2 rear bumpers... Sport, S-Line and S3
the Sport bumpers are ugly and useless so forget about them
The S-Line and S3 share the same upper part...
The S-line rear bumper can have its lower valance removed and replaced with the S3 rear Valance.

BUT

The 8P3 bumper is not the same as the 8P2... the Sline bumper became one big part so no interchangeable valance. there is the black edition bumper (i think thats what its called) but this just has the small honeycomb part at the bottom...

The lower valance on the S3 and RS3 (SB only) can be removed from the 8P3 bumper and used on the 8P2 S-Line upper part.

I hope that makes sense to you... If not go and have a drink.. get some sleep and then come back and try again!

There's no such thing as a black edition bumper. Proof... you can get black edition S3's and they have, yes you've guessed it, S3 bumpers.
The Standard and s-line 8P3 bumpers are the same. The diffuser you are talking about with the honeycomb is the s-line diffuser.
