Hey everyone. I've been lurking about here for a while reading and getting loads of handy tips and info. I have a 2000 1.8t sport avant with some sort of chip/remap which pulls really well. Apart from the odd occasion when I get a little hesitation, usually at lower revs just before the turbo kicks in. I also seem to be getting really poor fuel consumption, with the comp telling me I averaged 23 mpg on a recent 300 mile round trip involving motorway(80 mph) and sensible b roads. Im new to Audis and turbos but that seems a bit low 2 me. Any ideas of a possible fault that may cause this?
Cheers in advance
Martin

Yeah water temp is spot on. I have read codes and data with Snap-on Solid pro but didn't show anything. No codes and all data looked ok. I've only had the car a few weeks and dont dealt have any history of what mods have been done or who by.

lol be thankful you not got my 2.8 as my comp is telling me im averaging 17.3mpg, think due to quite abit of town driving and fact i seem to have abit of a heavy foot when on the a&b roads

Yeah . That was motorway driving, does drop lower when im having some fun. I dont mind that, its the sensible driving and poor economy thats annoying me

My comp is saying 4.2mpg when playing about and 17 when being human LOL

Something a bit wrong there tbh.

My long term average is ~30mpg.

A full tank of fuel on the motorway will return 31-32 if i'm careful, around town it drops to 24-25.

And thats in a quattro...

Assuming you have a FWD those figures are seriously awful.

First off you want to do a proper scan with Vagcom/VCDS. Check the fuel trims too.

Make sure the servicing is up-to-date, with a recent set of plugs, airfilter, oil etc and check all the vacuum pipework in the engine bay for splits.

I know mine is a 2.8 Quatty but even I can get ~34mpg on motorway and 26mpg when having 'fun' on these country roads :)

Martinmc...where abouts in the world are you? maybe someone nearby you has VCDS....

I would be looking at the MAF sensor. Get some lectrical contact cleaner aerosol and spray some of that into the MAF, allow it to fully dry and then see how you get on. I run a K&N cone filter on my car and have to do this procedure once every couple of months as the MAF wire gets fouled by the oil from it

Thanks every1. I had the MAF out today and it looked reasonably new. Im near Dundee and it would me greatly appreciated if there is some1 near me that could plug in and read (and make sense of) whats going on. Yeah my car is a FWD

MAF's 99.9% of the time do look new inside. You would need supermans' eyesight to spot dirt on the filament in there. It's always worth spraying with contact cleaner anyway.

Someone might be along on here shortly, who lives nearby and can possibly help scan your car.

Cheers very much folks. I think ill leave it until I can get some data read and start from scratch.

How did you get one with this? I've got shocking fuel issues... avant B5 Quattro. How do you get the dash to tell you your miles per gallon?

I do have a faulty thermostat.

Never done anything with it yet lol. Got a mate with vagcom gonna have a look at the weekend I hope. The buttons on the end of the wiper stock let's you flick through options in the display.
