AH Fab / Ebay / Forge S3/A3 FMIC installs (image heavy)

Thanks lads.Well i was going togo down the 63mm 90 bends welded to the cooler but after seeing sportstractors results with the reducers amd keepig the fogs im going to try that first :).

right quick question, on the ebay listing the 'wellycooler' says its capable of 650bhp, is this an exageration? if so would it withold a stage two map?

It will definately be suitable for a stage 2 map there's many on here that are stage 2 with these coolers, welly iirc is now up to 411bhp with this cooler and it's still working efficiently :)

In theory it could be used on an installation capable of 650hp however personal experience of these things suggest it may not be as efficient flow or cooling wise as it should be...

Have used this on a S3 with over 380hp and even on the dyno it works very well indeed...

Does anyone have the dimensions of the AH V2 cooler to hand?

I am tossing up between the AH Fabs V2 and Wagner. The price difference is about $200 (I'm outside of the EU so pay no VAT :)) so not massive but of course the Wagner comes with all fittings/hoses etc. The Wagner is 600 x 355 x 50, 10.650cm³ Volume.

From what I can understand, to fit the AH fabs V2 to an S3 using the existing MAP tube is 2 hard 90 degree bends and 2 90 degree 63mm silicon hoses?

Any help appreciated.

Just found the dimensions on page 8 :) Still wouldn't mind peoples opinions on which would be better. I'll be going GT2871R soonish.

could someone post me a link up for the welly cooler on ebay, on the phone crap signal, no laptop and need to order one tonight, thanks knoxie

Personally I'd go for the Welly cooler, but the ah one would be my second choice

I like the idea but can't be ***** with faffing about getting mounts made up, then loosing the fogs etc. When I had the 205, I'd be more than up for it but I bought the Audi as a nice looking, quick and subtle car. I don't like it when a car has the intercooler hanging out like a fat bird in a thong. It says:

"HEY MAN, LOOK AT MY INTERCOOLER!!11 I GOT A TURBO!!!1111"

I much prefer the subtle OEM+ approach without the unwanted attention...

Scrap that. I just looked at the prices from Cathay to bring the intercooler back and they want $60 a kg to bring it back! Looks like I might be going for the Wagner! I'll do a write up on fitting...

It's 50mm core, so 15mm less than the AH but it's gotta be better than the side mounts...

Have you asked AH if they would ship to Aus? might be worth a punt...

okay so been reading up on this, and have decided to get a forge FMIC however.... wanted to know if it would handle a 500HP engine down the track or better off getting some else, and SAM id give Awesome gti a call if you're interested in the forge kit they will ship i think cost would be 100-150 pounds to Aus ive asked as i live in NSW...

Not personally tested the Forge S3 FMIC on a big turbo but based on what I know and what I have done myself (as you would have read here) then I would very much doubt the current Forge FMIC is going to be ok for 500hp... I would think it would be struggling with 350hp flow wise tbh but as I have said its not been tested...

Forge do make bigger coolers but not for the S3 sadly... guess the demand isn't there... they do a good one for the LCR (race one not the normal one) that works well on all the BT cars I have seen with it on but obviously there are fitment issues as the LCR has lots more room...

AH Fabs V2 (- A H Fabrications - Alloy products for the motorsport industry.) note though the V2 doesn't seem to be listed on the site only the V1 which will have the same issues as it was designed for a K04... or the Wellycooler which should be easily available to you in Aus but obviously is less of an OEM fit...

hmm so i need a bigger core then the forge one im assuming as i would like it to run on a GTX30 or 35 2.1ltr stroker then my best bet would possibly be the AH Fabs V2 the ? id like to keep the fogs in place keep it a sleeper...

You definitely need a bigger core then the forge one. The forge one is slim so it fits well behind the bumper which is why it wont cool as well as the Welly cooler for example.

You could still use the Welly cooler but fit it upside down and weld custom pipework onto it like Lee did (pics above).

ill have a look again... i hope its quite straight forward as mechs in Oz dont really know much about Audi's so ill have to do it myself at home

You will need to find someone who can TIG weld alloy mate... there is a bit of work involved but doable... you will need to cut the bumper bar regardless any way...

I'd go Wagner over Forge if you want a kit. You can get it for around $900 landed and pay no duty because it's under $1000. The 600(?)hp Storm Developments 2.5 beast seems ok with it:
Project Cars - About Us

I'd go AH V2 but the shipping was crazy. Fancy splitting it and getting two sent?

hmm yeah i figured that out by now been through the thread twice already... however Westy suggested i fit it upside down and weld pipes, though with more research i found these inter-coolers from integrated engineering Precision Turbo 600HP Front Mount Intercooler 31.5" L X 8.0" H X 3.5" D though i think it would be big especially 69.85mm outlet.

though Tuffy cutting the bumper bar, where would i be able to do that same place that i would find to TIG weld alloy ?

That intercooler is too small... and I very much doubt you would be able to fit that in the same way as the AH one and retain the OEM look...

Bumper bar can be cut with a band saw or 1mm disc cutter... so an engineering place of some description or a garage that appears to know what they are doing is a start...

The upside down welly cooler that Westy is referring to is the one we fitted to Lee's S3... Bill cut off the 76mm outlets and welded on 63mm alloy bends...

<tuffty/>

ah wow, damn that is allot of work and i dont know any TIG welder that i can TRUST around here, this well be tricky ive been reading up on the welly toyosport cooler , and ive seen your cooler which i like as it retain the OEM look however will be suffice to run a 500 hp engine ? sorry but all these coolers are freakin confusing if you ask me but as you know i dont know much but trying to learn :p quite exciting at the same time

If you want a cooler that is good for 500hp then you are going to be limited on choices tbh... flow is the biggest issue and flow means large... large means less option to retain the OEM look...

The Welly cooler is a 76mm deep core but has limited rows... the AH V2 is a 62mm core but has more rows than the welly cooler...

AH V2 is the easier option fitment wise but you will still need to cut the bumper bar...

my welly cooler was delivered today was excited to get home and have a look, undone the box to find the very top of the cooler (next to the mount nut) has a dent, and half crushed some of the fins, will it be ok or is it ******?

a few bent fins will be ok. Can you get a pic up? If it has a dent I'd be thinking of sending it back.

Alex only wanted to supply the intercooler so I sourced the rest of the hoses and pipes myself. For the S3 you will need:

2 x 51mm 45deg silicone elbows
2 x 60mm to 51mm 90deg silicone reducers
2 x 51mm 45deg aluminium pipes
2 x 60mm aluminium hose joiners
1 x 60mm hose piece to replace short piece off MAP sensor tube(optional)

is this what i need for. the welly cooler?

No... this is from my original post for the AH Fabs V1 intercooler...

The hoses for the Welly cooler are documented by sportstractor (S3) and Prawn (A3)

Does anyone know the parts required to fit the AH Fabs V2. I know Tuffty mentioned a couple of 63mm 90 degree silicon and alloy bends but is that 100% true?
