pinking ??

getting a pinking/light rattling from my 2.0 tdi engine when i give it a bit acceleration just seams to happen through mid range and stops as soon as you lift your foot and is not there at tick over ? is this on all tdi's as i've never drove another to compare, cheers in advance

pinking is usually associated with petrol engines mate!
timing mainly, and trying to mentally picture what your describing is pretty difficult!
from what your suggesting i am guessing its a metallic rattle noise rather than vibration at any revs other than tick over?
is this correct?

yes mate a metallic rattle like just like pinking but obviously its not with it being diesel just seams to be in the mid range of acceleration whilst driving in gear , it goes when you lift off the pedal or when you accelerate harder ?

not wanting to assume and condemn anything mate but,
what is the year, model of car concerned? (a4, a3 etc)

its an a4 cab 2007 57 plate 25,000 miles

well i was going to suggest the oil pump/balance shaft problem associated with earlier models, but, thankfully in your case i dont think is the problem unless you have the dreaded chain driven oil pump which i am 99% certain you dont!
this "pinking" is something else, and sadly cannot think what it is!
i am sure somebody will be here to instruct/advise mate!
sorry i could not be any good, but i dont want to just guess! as that would not be helping anybody!
