On the way home, goin round a roundabout come old codger decides he doesnt like my wheel

It looks superficial but the drive home didnt feel quite right, not sure if its just knocked the tracking out or if there is somethin more sinister goin on as there is about half an inch arch gap difference compared to the other side :(

Its true what they say though, audi are built well.... look at his car!

The guy is adiment that its my fault, but it clearly isnt, i was on the roundabout before him and he hit me :-/

He even went to the lenghts of calling the police because i wouldnt take blame, no bother to me, wasnt my fault!

All down to the insurance companies now, theres no way their gonna side with him!

But is we have axle or suspension damage we may be looking at a write off, which doesnt really bother me but i know they wont pay me anywhere near what i paid for the car :(

Thats not good, might well have knocked something out inside :(

Keep us posted.

PS, nice pics, where's the bridge in the background?

bridge in the background is the severn bridge to wales
yeah we're both ok thankfully, if the inpact would have been nearer the rear itd esentially been a 'pit maneuver and id have span into other traffic or a lamp post!

prayin for a fix, love the car so really dont wanna loose it!

Got a courtesy car coming today, its another a4 tdi but its DSG, never driven a car with DSG before so a lil aprehensive to say the least, only ever driven a standard auto once n that was bout 7 years ago :-/

ouch! sorry to hear about this. His car did come off alot worse! DSG is brilliant, I totally love mine to bits. Just dont forget you dont need to change gear lol, its hard to get out of the habit at first! First time I drove one with DSG I went to change with an automatic response and banged it into reverse :-( Dont think the cars behind me liked it either lol But have a play with it, its fun. Hope you get yours fixed, in the pics, it looks great.

Well it came and its not too bad actually :) was only a 9 mile drive home from work but didnt have any troubles!
My car is being collected in the morning, and from what i can gather is being taken to AUDI!

Ive got my fingers and toes crossed for a fix, but only time will tell.
Yeah safe to say the toyota will be written off, thats plastic vs alloy for u!

been on the phone to the assessor today to be be offered either a cash settlement to fix the car myself or the car to be a total loss :(

Worth shopping around to see how much it's going to cost to fix the car. I was in this scenario with my Passat Estate a few years and kept the car, they gave me £1350 for repairs to two nearside doors after a 4x4 hit me. 2 doors cost me £300 off ebay locally, and I fitted them myself.

a new axle from Audi itself will be mega bux, but from a specialist breaker it'd be 3200 for a part i would have thought

Its this thats currently stopping me from accepting the cash settlement, they have been unable to check the suspension etc because of the damaged wheel and a replacement wheel is unavailable, they also wont change all 4 wheels over just to check it all n then swap them back, so ill be left with unknowns :(

So basicly im stuck with a supidly hard decission to make and i really dont wanna make it! :(

how much cash are they offering you ?
are they gona cat it as a D ?

yeah i know but sometimes they offer you more and sell it you back
its just warning him of his choices cash to repair not listed not gona get a lot
or full value buy it back for not alot and repair as a cat d

Cash figures havent been mentioned yet for either option, i think whatever option i take im gonna loose money though, seems from talking to my IC that the write off offer will be priced on similar car by current PRIVATE sale rates, i bought mine a month ago from a trader! i know i overpaid for the car but it ticked all the boxes and i didnt buy it to turn a buck so wasnt overly worried about payin that little more than i should, seems i should have just got a banger :(

their going to write it off cus of a damaged wheel and a bent suspension arm? assuming its a quattro it has a trailing arm and a top and bottom track control arms. one of the track control arms will be bent as these are purposefully made weak to take minor impacts like this and avoid twisting subframes/shifting body mountings.

id kick off good style! insist the insurance assessor takes a second look with the car on a ramp. the bent arm should be easy to spot.

buy the car back off the muppets!!!

Have decided on total loss, they have offered to pay me what i paid for the car or £2k cash in leiu to fix myself, id have to spend a lot of that £2k just replacing the wheels so really didnt think it is worth it.

So now the hunt begins for another car, unsure if it'll be an audi though :-/

If you got what you paid for it back, then fair enough Ian, since in most cases, they would just offer you 'market value', which is the p/x value generally. Happy hunting for your new motor, don't let this put you off Audi's, it was the old duffers fault, not your car!

crazy what a car gets written off for.

cant you just sort the suspension arm out and buy a cheap set of wheels while you look for 1 new one? infact ive got a fiver says that wheel isnt bent, is purly asthetic damage and perfectly useable.

doesnt make sence to me writing a car off for a damaged wheel and a bent suspension arm you could easily change with the car jacked up on the floor in half an hour?? the arm i suspect is bent looking at the damage, i bet it isn't even £100 to buy new.

They have offered full price as ive owned the car for such a short period i believe, if it had been a few months down the line itd be a different story for sure!

Im pretty certain your right, but the garage wouldnt check the geometry or the drivetrain because of the damaged wheel, they also wouldnt put a full set of undamaged wheels on to check it, if they had checked it and said the issues are only what you have mentioned id have taken the cash settlement and sorted it, but my luck with this car just wasnt right so im getting out while a decent offer is on the table.

My IC spoke to the 3rd party insurers today and they write off is because the wheels are no longer availiable so to repair properly would require a full set of wheels, add that to the bodywork costs and potential suspension damages etc and it puts it over the threshold of repair.

It is also to late now, i made my decision and the insurance companies have been informed, i also had to take my other halfs opinion into account and she also had worries about further unknown damage, was too much of a gamble.

Its a shame it ended this way, the car had everythin i wanted and ticked all the boxes, it just wasnt meant to be.... time to search the classified on here :)

well i went to collect my belongings from the garage that had the A4 today and it was still there so got to say my goodbyes, the garage let me take the tax disc to which was a nice bonus!

Ive already bought a new car, sorry to say though guys its not an Audi, got a Seat Leon Cupra now (well once the cheque clears)

id buy the grey lower door lips off you if you can go get them ?

Sorry mate car is no longer mine technically so cant get anythin from it :(

Good Stuff Ian, LCR is a nice replacement too, at least it's still a VAG(sort of lol).

was gonna stay VAG no matter what, id have gone without if needed be lol
Other than lack of sat nav its acutally better spec'd than the A4 was, full leather, multichanger, cruise control, plus its newer with 30k less miles, and the colour is amazing......

Will be picking it up tommorow now that its been mot'd and serviced etc. So for now its a goodbye from me, maybe in the furture ill try an Audi again and ill be back reintroducing myself......

Good luck with all your cars, hope they treat you well :)

Unexpected update.......
Had a call from my insurance company on friday, the other insurers are now disputing liability, this is after they have paid me out mind you!

I was under the impression that they paid me out accepting liability and now this, stressed me out so much on friday i ended up goin straight to the pub after work, i hardly ever drink so was very unusual of me to NEED a drink!

What is there to dispute about? Insurance is a farce these days, can't people just own up they hit someone, or is it just insurance companies playing divil's advocate?

Goodluck with it all Ian, I can understand how stressful this could be....

i dont understand how they can take me car off me, pay me out for it and then dispute!?

The company dealing with it all for me seem to be really good though so am not too worried, and there is definatly no way i was at fault, ill defend myself to the death! lol

I'd say to the company it's nothing to do with you no more. Youve got your new car you've been paid out and you just want to be left alkne to enjoy your new car

I believe they have paid you out on a non-prejudice basis.

Without liability being accepted, I could see this case taking very long to settle. However to mitigate costs they will probably (hopefully) go with the accident photos provided. Could take months - I don't know!

What i dont understand though, even though im definatly not a fault, if it was found that i was, as i only have 3rd party insurance i take it they'd ask me for the money bk? and somehow return me my Audi that has probably been broken for parts by now or crushed??

I could understand if i was fully comp as itd just be my IC payin or recieving but im not!

Dont worry about it mate, they cant ask you for the money back now, they have paid up and now its there hot potato, if they drop it then they will be screwed, the there driver hit you up the rear, they are at fault for being to close, the end, it really is that simple.

i wouldnt mind so much but with it still ongoing its put my insurance premium up £275, and i didnt really have that kinda money sat about after buying a car, hoping i get refunded when its all sorted!

recieved a letter from my IC today, 3rd party are offering to settle on a 50/50 basis due to lack of witness to support either version of events!!! Needless to say i wont be accepting that! Im not accepting 50% liabilty when i was 0% liable!

i think i will tell my IC to start court procedings if possible, we'll let a judge decide! No way am i accepting any % of liability!

Any thoughts?

What a joke, go the full way mate take them to court it will get thrown out they dont have a leg to stand on. Anything to try and get out of paying, there just wnkers.

Well i sent off an offer rejection email after ringing and being told it has to be in writing with my reasoning, am yet to hear back though.

Im more than happy to take it to court, the pictures are evidence enough in my eyes!

Will keep the thread updated when i hear more
