once the front seats and carpet are out that should be a nice bit of weight gone then its air con off and in a wile front mount full exhaust and decat then i can take that ****** smog pump off ! oh and battery will go in the boot soon for some race car bling :)

Nice project you got there mate, im gonna be stripping mine down soon too! Show us more!!

Looking good mate, feels a lot better with the rear stripped doesn't it.what power you aiming for?

yea so much better stripped got another 50kgs to come out yet with fron seats carpet etc etc looking foward to that .......to be honest its remapped to whatever bhp it is dreadfully slow only does 145mph at a pust 0-60 umm maybe lol feels like it needs 300bhp ish and the gearing is way to long for my liking a 6 speed off a leon will go down a treat but its only a daily ;) lol

steve

thought a 6 speed box would be longer? 145mph aint quick enough for you nah????

What are them buckets like? been thinking of chaging the standard seats on mine but was thinking something a bit more expensive to be on the safe side.

are you bolting them to the standard runners or are your using new frames?

naa am pretty sure 6 speed has slightly shorter ratios to help you get to the top speed a bit quicker. those buckets are reaaallly nice im just adding a extra coat of fibreglass as i am a heavy guy am also adding some more padding to them for comfort :)

im gonna weld rails into the floor then bolt seats to them with side mount rails.

if you can afford genuine recaros profis there £1300 a set go for it all day !! or a set of sparco evos are similar around £800 a set

audi seats are very heavy and not too grippy im just sick off all these A3s laced in leather and rims lol

You`ll be changing gear more often which will kind of balance it out to some extent. Wont be able to hit 60 in second anymore either.

Nah not that much on seats, maybe a feew hundred more. I want reclining seats sobi still have comfort aswell. Good luck

6 speed will be shorter, that why the a3 can reach 60 in 2nd gear whilst in the s3 you need that extra gear change into 3rd for 60 mph

EDIT: yeah sorry, what Jason said ^^

Don't bother with a 6 speed Steve, it's a bad idea, having driven both 5 and 6 speed 1.8T's on track the 5 speed is better I think.

In the 6 speed I just felt like I was forever changing gear, the 20vt isn't a peaky high revving n/a engine that needs gear changes to keep it on the boil, it's a torquey turbo motor with a decent spread of power.

Just get enough power to pull you along on the 5 speeder.

1st gear on the 6 speed is 100% useless in a FWD car too.

and does anyone know were i can get stiffer rear springs ! the fronts are normal universal jobs i need some stiffer ones on there rear maybe 500lbs or 600 its a big car afterall whiteline antiroll bar will come soon too

I'm running 400lb spring or the rear(mk4) and those are abit over kill! Think most coilover kits come with anything from 300 to 350ish. Plus you'll need a damper to control those springs. You maybe better off getting a 'track day' kit'

You don't have those on your daily do you nando? I'd be interested to see how they ride.

How adjustable are they? obviously ride height and rebound, anything else?

hello right im back from work :) i have heard that about the 6 speed box and i am used to high revyy engines so my general consesnus was to shorten them i hate how 3rd and 4th are so long would be nice to have same 1st and 2nd and shorter 3rd 4th 5th 6 etc..... hmmm hybrid perhaps :)

as for the springs i saw a tien rear spring and it was rated to 200lbs i run 450-600 progressive springs on my 750kg suzuki swift ! i may start at a 350 on the rear and see how i feel anti roll bar is first though.

its got jamex shocks which are fairly firm compared to stock the springs really let it down imo lots of squat off the line to much roll etc theres a long way to go

oh and just swapped a dashboard with S3 CYP for some stock s3 wheels top man :)

what tyres do you run prawn ? ive been looking hankook k11 as cant get parada spec 2 in a 25 45 17 and toyo t1rs im not a fan of there overly soft sidewall

cheers

The T1Rs have a stronger sidewall than the Paradas^

You don't want the back too stiff especially if you get a meaty rear arb as you'll be fighting to stay facing forward on corners and roundabouts if driven quickly.

ive had t1rs in 195 50 15 and they were wobbley as **** ! i then went to the parada spec 2s and they were alot better after this i had hankook rs2s there now discontinued but they were realy good such a shame.

fitted the 17s today they got verdistans on em a million times better than the 18s

need some 10mm spacers all round and will try the hankook k11s me think

wheels on would like em gunmetal really one day ill get a spare set and do em :) will never go back to 18s car is sooooo much better on these

17s are the way to go, tyres cost alot less, less weight and the S3 wheels allow for a good range of serious braking options, good choice.

18s look good but 17s are so much nicer to drive on ! got a whole oad of k04 parts earlier :D

thread resurection time :)

painted wheels gunmetal wheel spacers all round fitted 2 strut braces moved battery to boot changing to s3 anti roll bar due to rubbing also fitted a mllltek catback getting her ready for k04 conversion

ive actually got mk4 recaros in now lol i might sell them .... im doing a k04 conversion in a few weeks so am not gonna have alot of spare cash plus car needs more work before im happy :)

well havent been on in a while but have done a few more things to the car getting there slowly but surely as it is just a daily :)

leon r brembos (painted yellow )
awd front anti roll bar
removed rear wiper

also weighed the car 1118kg with **** in back and quarter tank of fuel ;) (removed air con aswell)

changed the whole interior to a golf s3 a3 combination gti recaros s3 dash late a3 door cards all black no more navy blue :w00t:

some wheel spacers wich has actually helped stability in the bends back steps out less now 30m wider wheel base overall

couple bling bits here and there and a ABT grill badge

the badge on glovebox is to hide the quattro badge lol

cheers

Why did you swap out the fibreglass buckets?

A point from earlier, you cant really compare spring rates between cars based solely on weight. Depending on the suspension layout there can be a huge lever effect between the spring and the wheel, meaning the spring ends up a lot stiffer than the actual resulting wheel rate.

A lot of cars will have stiffer rear springs than the front, but the wheel rate on the rear is much softer.

i dident like them seats that much tbh i want real recaros pole positon probably or stock ones for now and yes i know what your saying about the springs i dont know whats on the rear at the moment but it defo needs to be stiffer on the rear and higher

the brace is from a mk4 apparently i welded some plates on to make it fit

Interesting, do you think it would still fit with the rear seats in?

16mm on the back 3mm on the front

and yes were i have put it it will but to be honest if i was to do it again i would do a steel one and just wend it in the boot area as these dont really have strut towers anyway

ordered more parts today

550c injectros
some t28 gaskets
turbo should arrive within the next few days

may even get a chance to fit the front mount on weekend :)

update jamex coiovers are in the bin now on koni springs and stock shocks till i buy some koni yellows purchased a spare back axle

new steering wheel
rear of car is carpeted / paneled ...cut noise down
front mounts done with fog lights!

pics tomorrow and a proper right up

some recent bits 3" downpipe modded to fit milket resonated exhaust 2.5"

whiteline anti roll bar and koni rear springs

my powerflex top mounts (fantastic !)

also have some powerflex rear axle bushes to get on with fitting this week :)

next on list is get it booked into r-tech for a stage 2 map
