S3 MY12 Panther Build thread: The End; it's been emotional!

I can imagine all the people on the forum getting on their hands and knees in car parks trying to see which A3 fog lights have a blue tint..:))

While I'm sitting here with my jaw numb from my root canal today, I must ask why you cut the fins off the backing plate next to the fog lens. AND once again, great mod. I turned my GALA off too and what a difference. Great write up

This is what I'm typing about

Nearly pushed me over the edge with it doing its own thing. It had to go!!!

I had a feeling that annoying hiss was my loose boost hose but when it was finally fixed I could still hear it and figured that it was GALA being a C*&T cheers for the how to now I can drive without that annoying hiss/volume change!

The cars looking top notch Warren, really liking the Panther paint!! Might have to consider it if I ever get a new car!

Hey Warren, I am so glad you posted how to switch off GALA! I had asked the question a few weeks back but I never really got any feedback.

Do you think Audi would do it? I see it as a fault and the car is brand spanking new so they should do it for free! I have to switch off the stereo every time I get in the car because it annoys me so much.

Awesome build thread by the way. I have to start one once I get the car run in and I get the mods started!

they will probably want to charge you at least £75 for hooking it up to diagnostics, then will round it up with an hourly rate, better to put in a request for someone with VCDS local to your area to do it for you.

and thanks for the kind words!

They can stick the £75 up their pooper! I'll put that towards a VCDS cable!

Have you had any dealings with the dealer since you started your mods? I'm worried about my warranty!

Your subtleness knows no bounds Warren! Brave putting a hacksaw to any part of the car! I wouldn't have the bottle! Lol

Looking lovely mate :respekt:

Thanks Coz, it's just a ropey old knackered engine lid from a track S3 in Surrey. Mine is about to get shrink wrapped and put in the attic in pristine condition.

Did look at TTS option, but wanted to keep the whole thing as close to OEM as I could, but just with minor tweaks or enhancements in the same vein.

Need to finish spraying the gloss black cover tonight. Not enough hours in a day!

Turning Gala off is an excellent mod (winds me up something rotten when it turns the volume up on start up)! Just need to find someone to do it for me.

I could sort this out for you, Dan and any other VCDS mods you fancy having done. xx

At certain angles you can, but as they're low you have to get down on your knees to notice it.

I'm with Paul!

I'm with you guys on this, ..you can ONLY see the slightest hint of blue from certain angles, whilst on your hands and knees looking for the blue bits. Not worth losing any sleep over, ..what really matters is the gorgeous pure white light these bulbs give out, which is IMO unbeatable, as far as foglights go. xx

Thanks for the offer Paullie, may well be in contact in a few weeks time once I've got a few other bits and pieces sorted.

Let me know when you're ready, Dan. I've just nipped out and done the GALA mod to mine and it works a treat. Thanks again for the tip, Warren. xx

They are awesome - I just wish the H7 main and dipped bulbs matched that white light - yellow in comparison! :bye:

Hi Warren,

I'm about to purchase (Front & Rear) 4 X 11mm Forge Spacers, It that what you got ?
it is just pug and play and I don't need any extended bolts right ?

Thanks

John

15) Getting rid of GALA

Whilst I don't mind the Bose system, I hate the hissing sound of the Bose Mic adjusted GALA that seems to make the head unit hiss like a b******d whenever the volume is low. Today I decided to turn it off.

So I grabbed the VCDS and should you too want to do it, this is how it's done:

1) Select Module 37-Navigation

2) Select Adaptation - 10

3) Select CHANNEL 08: 'Speed Dependent Volume Control (GALA)'
IMG_1256.JPG

4) Change the Stored Value from 255 (Bose AudioPilot) to 000 GALA Off
IMG_1257.JPG

5) Click the Done, Go Back button at the bottom of the Adaptation window

6) Go to the Nav unit and select Media and then SOUND from the bottom right control button
You will see DSP has appeared under BASS / TREBLE

7) Click into DSP and turn GALA off

RESULT: No more hiss = driver bliss!

I have a 61 plate A3 Sportback Black Edition with the RSN-E head unit, Bose sound system, Bluetooth etc. From day 1 there has always been digital noise (hissing) coming from the front speakers. Audi have tried a different head unit and different subwoofer and cant seem to get this issue fixed. I have been told by an audio specialist that the problem is the amp. This however cant be swapped for a 3rd party one. I have just been at Audi who have done the method as described above. Sadly this has not solved my problem. Is there anyone who can suggest anything that would help fix the hissing coming from my speakers?

Thanks

If Audi have done the process as described above it removes the hiss, if it doesn't they're incompetent or liars! Seems to have worked for everyone else.

Post in the VCDS Section (LINK) of the forum and someone local to you from this site should be able to sort it for you.

They have definitely done it as the DSP -> GALA function has appeared and is set to off

Wonder if they left the settings as Bose 8P Sound System or changed it to something else in Navigation 37???

Bizarre. Mine still has a bit of gala volume adjustment even when turned off, but my hissing is gone.

Warren, I have changed my whole Headunit to a Pioneer double din one but i still notice a bit of gala volume control when i am driving around with low volume on the stereo. I think its the Bose mic that controls that...
When i have passengers in the car i always leave the volume low so we can hear each other but when i stop at traffic lights the music almost mutes itself.

Really not sure. I just forwarded them the link with this post and one of their technicians had the software and I am guessing did exactly as you suggested. Just cant understand how it has worked for you and everyone else but not me.

It's a good job my number plate is partially obscured as otherwise I'd be on Audi UK's hit list!

It's hard to be sure why they're approach hasn't worked. Until someone with VCDS looks at it then it will be hard to know.

Just as a point of etiquette it might be a decent thing to do in future if you asked the original poster to see if they are happy with their build thread being sent directly to an Audi dealer. More than happy for people to print stuff off and use it for their own benefit, but I'm not hugely comfortable with Audi Service centres linking into the thread.

No worries, apologies. Didnt think there would be a problem since it was a public thread.

This is a quick Q for warren or anyone else if they can shed some light, with thanks to Marc for his VAGCOM I was able to turn off Gala on my RNSE

however I noticed that after I turned the car of then on again the option was no longer there, now I don't think the volume has jumped at all but I did notice the hiss once I got into the car earlier before starting it.

Any help would be great cheers Richy

Just heard the hiss again there. So I think there's something gone wrong :-( do you still have the option to fiddle with your gala once the cars been turned off and on?

I'm not sure how it seems to be working on some cars and not on other!

@N8; cheers G, good to have you back on the scene!

same here, got my bulbs last week but one bulb came loose during the the post both been scratched marked and most of the blue tip was missing on one of the bulbs.

getting some replacements 2moro or some time this week f.o.c

Cheers Warren:icon_thumright:...your a star for finding it...

One problem though...anyone else had it re adapt after a few journeys?
I've had to re-set it twice and after a couple journeys it reverts back to the hiss and no DSP option on the RNSE

Not as far as I'm aware, I will check today in settings, but I havent got the hiss back and still have DSP menu showing.

The same thing I'm having go wrong, I have a feeling its because of the RNS-E being retro fitted for myself maybe the same for you?

Warren my man... Having been away for a few weeks, your car keeps better and better.

I too went the way of the warrior (thanks to Paulie) and fitted the diamond vision bulbs when I got my car. They are brilliant.

In regards to the hiss, that's great news. My last A3 had that problem. The whine would also increase as I accelerated. I sent it to Audi to be looked at under warranty. I even gave them a video recording of the sound. It was in for two days and all they came up with was that it was my iPod adaptor. Rofl. As I was selling the car soon anyway I couldn't be bothered with fighting it. Just hooked my car up and sorted this problem! BOOM

Hi there, Your car is looking great and you have done all the things I would really love to do :) I just have a few questions :)

1. When you fitted the spacers did you have to buy new longer wheel bolts? I have the same wheels as you on my 11 plate 170 2.0tdi BE, are the spacers alright to fit to mine with the standard ride height?

2. What were the names of all the led bulbs you used to fit to all the interior lights(overhead festoon, map reading, rear roof, vanity mirrors and footwell)?

3. You had put a link to these... White 64 SMD LEDs H11 Fog Light Bulb Replacement for Car: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike is it them that are on your car? They seem very cheap lol

Thats it :) hope you dont mind the questions.

Cheers, Andrew

Mine's done this too, ..had it showing for a couple of weeks and then it just disappeared for some reason, though I haven't noticed the dreaded hiss return, so not too bothered. Thanks again Warr, for finding this for us. You ARE a star! xx
