Jay A3 's 1.8T On-Going Build Thread

Good progress mate, got a bigger pic of it how it currently sits?

Also, could you see if it had been lowered originally or was it just all those fat chicks you have in your car had caused suspension sag? :lmfao:

P.S Get that turbo fitted!

I will get some better pics soon...
The springs on the car were standard,
It did look like it was lowered. Maybe the bushes and top mounts were that worm it gave it that look lol

Well having fat chicks was a temporary and cheaper alternative to changing the suspension at the time... Thanks for the numbers Reesy. You can have your girls back now...

Nice one Jay. Have you changed your ARBs at all? Might be your next step if not.

I am still debating if I should change them now westy... The suspension seems to have sorted out the under steer and lack of grip I was getting.

Looks great buddy, can you please take a pic or 2 of your front grille as im thinking of doing the same :)

Just for you!

Needing a little bit of help...My engine temp has not been reading right, i think. It seems to go up to 90 but then drops... I thought it must be the coolant temperature sensor. (The Green One!) Bought mine from Audi at £35 including the seal. Very easy change. What i did was take off the engine cover and then the other smaller cover that sits by the oil dip stick. On the right hand side of the engine is the sensor. Pull out the metal pin and unplug the connection. Beware when you pull out the sensor the coolant may squirt out. (Have a towel handy) Change it. Leave it to run for a bit and top up the coolant... Anyway the temp seemed to work, it went up to 90 and sat there with the fans kicking in. I decided to take it for a spin, only to notice as i put my foot down briefly the temperature dropped, (i know it can drop a little bit) it actually dropped down to about 62... I though to myself this cant be right. So i parked up and sat there leaving it running. The temp then went back up to 90. Any ideas why it is dropping so much?
Finally got this sorted!Originally scanned the car for faults and it said the coolant temp sensor working intermittently, so it would make sense to change the Green sensor right? Wrong. Turns out is was the thermo stat on this occasion. The general wear and tear of a 14 year old stat finally went. I did the digital reading on the climate control and the stat was opening at 51 degrees! Took the old stat out and you could see it was leaking. Bought the new stat from TPS. I don't have an image but if you look at the bottom of the stat you should see the number 87. 87 represents the temperature of which the stat should open to allow the g12 mixture through. Car is running nicely and heating up to 90 degrees, mpg has also restored.

Next on the list...

Not changed one before but on a scale of 1-10 (10 being a right PITA) is it fairly easy to switch it over? I do have access to a car lift so i can get under it.

25mm Eibach Anti roll bar for the front. Good idea or bad?
My concern with the 25mm bar is will it fit as ive read some times the bar can rub and you need to look into adjustable drop links...

The other option pointed out to me was the Mk4 TT arb - 19mm

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Been awhile since i got round to doing anything... More successful weekend for me.
So my calipers and carriers have been sitting in the garage for a while rusting away.

Got them cleaned up again

Sprayed

I got the paint from Brake Caliper Specialist
The paint didnt require applying lacquer. They supplied the 325ml paint (enough to paint two coats on front and rears) 100ml of hardener and degreaser. I got these sprayed rather than paint brushing it on - 2:1 mixture (Paint:Hardener) Leave for 20mins, then apply final layer and leave to fully dry over 24hrs.

Fitted these back on along with the 312mm discs

Side view - hopefully a slightly better view of the calipers and 35mm drop i did a few weeks back

Hope you like

Next week, going to paint the rears and bleed the whole system, replacing the brake/clutch fluid with RBF600 or RBF660

Looking good Jay. Good weekends work. :)

This turned up on Friday

The silicone pipes were delivered yesterday but ****** delivery company left a card rather than ringing the door bell ! So i now have to wait till monday before i can get my hands on them... :crying:

its been in audi to get looked at fella!
i thought it was the dreaded oil pump on its way but turns out its the fly wheel that the mickey mousse garage put in is shizzle!
got a slight vibration at 2000rpm and the garage wont entertain me as they said its not bad enough to take apart again the toss pots!
i have to wait until its goosed!
other than that i am keeping well bro! :beerchug:

That dont sound good? Surely if you can notice it then its bad enough to get changed?
I thought its best to change things early too avoid any other problems? Not that audi have problems of course :whistle2:

Looking good mate I smiled so much when I got my forge fmic! And once u fit it with the turbo watch how much you will smile then!! People call me the Cheshire cat when I drive lol

Your not wrong there mate! There was plenty of grinning going on when rtech first remapped my car!
Cant wait, i hear that the k03s turbo has a different sort of pull (slightly more aggressive) than the standard k03.
What tip did you go for? Just a forge one?

Nice littl touch with the yellow dude, all coming together nicely. When you hoping to get it on. Is it a job for the LNM crew ;)

Cheers Dameo!!! i thought the yellow would stand out more against the black n white. I was going to ask you if you can source me some gloss black 3M wrap?? :eyebrows:

Next month or so is the plan... The LNM is currently fully booked with the preparation for project 300.

Hi jay I used the neuspeed tip as its less restrictive and made a big difference !

Well I'm not far from the ground so I won't get neck strain lol
Enough to do the roof mate and then a little extra as I am an amateur at it...

Don't forget the heat gun and the other things that damo bangs on about like a 3 year old with a new drum.
He has the whole speech saved somewhere Scott. I've already been through it, heat gun all sorted. Need to get a quality knife set for the cutting

Small update...
I got round to cleaning up the rear callipers this weekend for spraying, same Ferrari yellow as the fronts. I thought at the same time since everything was changing over, I decided to get the system bled and replaced with new brake fluid “RBF 600” I did look into the RBF 660 but for an extra £5 per bottle for little difference I didn’t see it as being worth it. (3 / 4 degrees higher temp in the RBF 660)
While the car was on the ramp I also noticed the arb bushes were gone, so £10 for a set of bushes and job done.

I got a chance to work on the bonnet this weekend. Originally it was silver then I wrapped it in black carbon fibre. Looked nice but attracted a lot of unwanted attention and very boy racer. Took the bonnet off to allow more room; applied with a bit of heat and the wrap peeled off within seconds. Grabbed the 1200 sandpaper and started to clean it up smoothing out and taking off a small amount of the lacquer, primed and then sprayed in matt white.

I think this looks better and smarter...

Some special post turned up on Saturday to help smarten up my engine bay. ScottB5 organised a group buy on a water and oil caps from Porsche. Again thanks Scott! Caps look mint and fit a treat!

Hope you like!

Dropped my K03s up to Beach buggy today for a refurb, buggy pointed out the housing had a 2 cracks on there, felt a little heartbroken, might need to start hunting for a k03 housing in good condition, although the K03s before I bought it had no issues and definitely no smoke. Going to wait on the verdict from buggy to see what he can do...Fingers crossed!

Credit for the caps all go to Scott.. all i did was hand over the cash. He tested them and made sure they fit.
I will hear sometime this week about the turbo. got my toes crossed aswell!

Nice work Jay, shame about the cracks in the turbo, but i think a lot have them without hindering performance....

PS wheres the caliper pics??....;)

Calipers arent anything special dave.. not really visible behind my wheels haha
Yeh buggy is going to check out the turbo for me and see how serious the cracks are.

Well Scott I am a believer of "if you going to do it, do it right or fk off" :moa:

Saved in the grey matter jay lol, as for knives ill send you some no2's down with the vinyl bro.

looking so much better now you changed the bonnet, think the gloss black will improve the looks even more mate.

Looking much more grown up with white mate. Get those rims refurbed a lighter colour now and it'll look sooooo good :)

Agreed, those wheels are too nice to be black..

And the white bonnet looks much better. Now you wont get grannies in Micra's looking to embarrass you off the lights

Hi dude, just had my first proper read of this thread, looks awsome, with lots of effort.
