hi all
im new on on here but justed wanted to know which is the better car and model-
audi a4 B5 1.9 tdi quattro or audi a4 B6 1.9 tdi quattro?
and also which is better from the audi a4 b5 2.5 tdi quattro or the audi a4 b6 2.5 tdi quattro?

any info will be appreciate.

thanks in advance.:respekt:

B6 is a newer, more expensive A4. It looks better inside, it's probably a bit bigger as well.
When it comes to looks you need to chose yourself.
If it came to 1.9tdi I would chose B6 because of 130PD engine which is quicker & quieter than the 110ps from B5.
Overall you can probably buy B5 for a lot less but you are getting an older car.
Simples.

as above both sweet looking motors but imo the B6 is newer more refined with goodies as standard and easier to mod/map for more power....

thanks for ur comments above.
will the b5 engine remapped be any good? what sort of power we looking at?
do the b5 engines come with 5 or 6 speed gearbox? i know 2.5 tdi is 6 speed what about the 1.9 tdi?

Let's give him benefit of the doubt... I would look at the B6, it comes in 1.9, 115bhp or 130bhp, from 03 onwards you can find 6 speed boxes. The 2.5 is 163bhp and again 5 or 6 speed.. Stay away from CVT box though.

i dont think its audi
if it is james will pick up on the IP addy

infact thinking about it it may well be the lil ****

Please forgive us if we're being a bit odd but can you give us an idea of who you are, what cars you've owned before etc so we can gauge how extensive your car knowledge is and taylor our advice to suit?
thanks

Hi allaudiman.
First things first.....there's been some clowns on the forum recently which obviously makes us guarded. Hopefully your not one of these clowns and we'd be more than happy to help. Welcome to the forum!
You've asked this question in the B6 forum so that means you're going to get lots of positive responses about the B6, the B5 seems a great car though. As the successor to the B5, the B6 is obviously more advanced in it's design but opinions vary depending on needs.
Is it safe to assume that you're considering buying some of the cars in your opening post? You could help us to help you by giving us some more details.....specifically
1. your budget for a purchase
2. how you plan to use it (motorways/mixed etc)
3. how much of an issue are running costs
4. driving style
5. desire to modify (performance/looks)
6. your ability with a spanner etc.
7. where you are

hi all members.
i think u all have got me confused with some else?! im new on here have looked on the website before but never becamed a member as i havent had a audi before as im into my japanese cars like the honda vtecs and subarus/evos etc. but am considering an audi as my close friends and family have them. most of the cars they have are either the a6's or the a8's and odd few have the a4's but they the b7/b87 models only 1 guy has a b5 but its the rs4 and the b6 models are either the s4 or 3.0 petrol convertable. i know b6 are newer and look much better and more of everything but the b5's cant be bad for what they worth. thats why was asking whats the real difference from the cars engine. im gonna get a b6 probably the 1.9 tdi quattro sport for myself as my everyday car. what u guess think is it worth remapping it and doing other mods to get more power out of it and better handling?
but also considering getting a b5 as there aint many around and making it a one off by getting loads of power out of it.

and finally people sorry for the long post. i apologise!

Sincere apologies from all of us who were being a bit paranoid mate. It's genuinely good to have you on the forum and hopefully you'll get used to us (and our odd ways).
Also a bonus to see you venturing towards an Audi away from Japanese cars (a joke of course. people on here will take the p1ss a bit but most of us value any well made car as long as it hasn't had a single bed glued to the back as a spoiler and neons underneath).
Other guys have covered the main points already but comparing the B5 and B6 side by side you will essentially get a bit more car for your money with the B6, and of course you'll pay for that. I'm sure everyone in the B6 section will tell you the B6 is a better looking car and in all likelihood a lot of the B5 owners would say the same. Most of us aspire to something newer unless we have an S car, RS car or something a bit special. The suspension etc is similar although not exactly the same on both cars. Like slepy said quite near the start of this thread the B6 has a 130bhp 1.9tdi engine option.
A B6 car will be newer, although of course it doesn't mean the specific car hasn't done more miles or been more abused.
I would question whethere there aren't many B5s around by the way. And I say this not to argue for the sake of it but I think they're fairly common.
I'll let the 1.9tdi owners tell you specifically how much power you can get out of one. If you browse the B5 section you should see what those guys are getting out of a 1.9tdi too. In both cases you can upgrade the turbo, remap them and do a few bits and bobs to squeeze out a bit more oomph.
Try to look at a B5 and a B6 side by side and then consider your budget. If you can afford the B6 I would suggest you'll be a lot happier with it. I certainly think that the B6 doesn't look as aged as the B5.

No need to apologise for a long post by the way :)
James - can you clean this thread up by deleting our irrelevant comments please mate?

I would have a b6 drive great alot better than the older cars b5 better inside if you do a lot of miles.

the b5 quattro is only available prefacelift and will look dated compared to the B6. If it were a FL b5 angaist the B6, then the B5 has it ob looks unless you like the J'lo **** of the B6,lol

The B6 will be better equipped and is also a 4 star car too iirc
B5 will be 5 speed
cost difference will be huge, probably 3 k different

hi thanks for the info fourcircle.:icon_thumright: i do like the b6 and will be getting that one in a quattro sport version on something like a 04 or 54 plate as they have the bodykit as standard and look real good. what would u guys advise on the engine should it be the 1.9 tdi or the 2.5 tdi? and which will be best to getting more power out of it? would think that the 2.5 tdi will have a bigger turbo but also have turbo lag? and also that the 1,9 tdi will be more reliable?

thanks james. whats the most power i can get from the 1.9 tdi? dont just wanna remap it, wanna know what esle can be done. can u fit a milltek exhaust on the audi? be it a 1.9 or 2.5? cos seen a b7 estate s line quattro 3.0 tdi with it and sounded and moved very well. also do air filters do owt on the tdi engines? more power better breathing etc?
