F1 Season 2012

Lol the road is a quiet back road up with me in Merthyr mate, the roads around us are not as bad as most I've driven on

Going of last years performance I'm going to go with Seb for pole and race win, I think Lewis will be in 2nd, then Webber 3rd for quail but will go backwards in the race, Kimi 4th as I recon the lotus will be good for a flying lap but wont be quick enough in the race so will end up 6th. Then Button to quailfy 5th and finish 3rd. Now if they've improved on the car since the last test then you cant rule out Alonso but given what we've seen so far I recon he wont finish any higher than 5th, Massa might be in the top ten but Force India, Williams, Sauber, the 2nd Lotus are all looking promising too. Its a long season, I'll be supporting Button and Hamilton, but what I really want is a close season rather than a one sided season, I wont be disappointed if Seb, Alonso, Webber, Kimi, Schuey wins as long as the race itself has been nice and tight with decent racing. Roll on Saturday, although its going to be highlights only for me :-(

Before the season kicks off, have any of you gone to watch a grand prix?

I been to Silverstone a few times.... was at the old Pit Straight, Stowe and Woodcote. all awesome, and at Village B for MotoGP.

anyone going this year?

I used to go pretty much every year for ages when they still had the V10's. An F1 atmosphere cannot be rivalled by anything else. End of. I want to watch a race in Melbourne at some stage for the atmosphere there. And Monza, to be up among the Tifosi...

My guess for this weekend... a complete surprise. No idea what it will be, but I think something unexpected will happen. Red Bull must be quick. Ditto McLaren. But not sure how quick Lotus and Mercedes will be. If Ferrari sorted their car's hunger for rear tyres, they should be there or thereabouts come race day too.

Also, I'm liking Button more and more now. I really despised him when he tried to wiggle out of his contract with BAR I think it was, to go to Williams. That turned into a whole sh!t storm and I didn't agree with the way he went about it. He was really big headed and a couple of years in a slow car brought him back down to earth with a bump, and he's better for it now. Even after his championship win, he still seems grounded and a genuinely nice guy which comes across in interviews. Anybody see the interview in Sky's season preview? Such a cool character, always joking. Last year was a great year for him and I think he'll carry on where he left off.

Hamilton undoubtably is the more raw race driver of the two, but only when his head is in the game. If he doesn't get his things sorted this year, Button will feed from beating him getting more confident and relaxed, and Lewis will get worse. Downward spiral. I fear Hamilton's head is swelling, in which case he needs a couple of horrific seasons to settle him like Button did. He's still one of the most exciting drivers to watch though! That's my take on things anyway...

3 days to go!!! :racer:

The only thing i'm predicting is tiredness. Two early Sundays in a row.

how exciting is it!!! can't frickin wait!! :)

Think i'm hoping for a close front grid without some daft car being leap years ahead of everyone else...let the drivers skill decide it ;)

I agree Tim, hopefully we will have lots of close racing, oh and I like wet races, much more action. Countdown has begun. :)

unfortunately not yet, i was planning on doing silverstone this year but plans have changed. i will get to one though and have been offered to le mans this year so hopefully i can get to it.

i cannot wait either, ill be watching practice in bed on the iphone, cant beat F1 cars to relax you after 4 months off my legal drug lol

im hoping to see some good close racing all the way to the wire, hopefully tactics will do wonders for some and not for others as i do like the undercut it makes things exciting. i just hope sky can put on a good show and not have 20 ad breaks before the race just to push em in like itv do before a football match("oh someones talked about football for 2 minutes and the people who watch corrination street dont like it so lets advertise yorkshire tea every 3 mins" **** off)

i really dont mind who wins sunday im just interested to see what cars can perform, hopefully it will be more than just red bull and maclaren this year.

my prediction

1st - lewis
2nd - seb
3rd - button
4th - rosberg
5th - webber(home race so not writing him off)
6th - nando
7th - kimi
8th - massa
9th - schuey
10th - di resta

thats it folks

:sign_omg:........Its now raining in Oz...... forecast scattered showers for Saturday and mostly sunny on Sunday

Wet first race would be interesting! :racer:
Ok as long as it's not too wet. Modern day drivers don't like it too wet nowadays. Sit in their cars and wait for the sun to come out. Not like the good old days.

just had a quick look at the 2012 cars and how sad and dull some of them look.
Isn't all about trying to give your teams sponsors as much exposure as posible, i dont want to look at some of the cars for more than a few seconds nevermind take in the logos.
anyone remember Jordan's "Bitten Hisses"

any thoughts?

I went last year and we are booked up for the weekend camping me and a few mates (we'll hate each other by Sunday lol)
I've driven Silverstone before my F1 experience

The puddles are drying up and the suns out in Aus

Is it my eyes or does Sky HD look better then BBC HD?

I can see the comments after Sunday already - whoever wins or comes second (as long it isn't Hamilton) will be the champion :)

Anyway, let's get the pre-empt out of the way....

Woooo check the practice results! no massive indication, but the best we have so far! makes for interesting reading, although i think we can agree that not all have shown their hand yet ;)

Guys so how will this work between sky and bbc? Is it every second race on bbc? I thought it will be first 10 on bbc and rest on sky.

Sky has all the races. BBC has the following:

  • 15 April: China
  • 13 May: Spain
  • 27 May: Monaco
  • 24 June: Europe
  • 8 July: Britain
  • 2 September: Belgium
  • 23 September: Singapore
  • 14 October: Korea
  • 4 November: Abu Dhabi
  • 25 November: Brazil

Last year i went to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Probably the best 'holiday' ive been on. Awesome concerts and Lewis winning!

*Cough*

1 M Schumacher (GER) Mercedes 1'29.183
4 F Alonso (ESP) Ferrari 1'30.341

15 J Button (GBR) McLaren 1'33.039

Practice day 1, Button and Hamilton number 1 and 2, with Button posting 1'27.560

You really are silly reps, your boasting the placing and lap time of Nando from the second session when Lewis and button done around 6 full laps lol did you see how that car handled?? It looks a nightmare for Nando and massa.

Not looking good for forza Italia right now

Again though another session that doesn't really tell us much do looking forward to qualy

Anyone know about how long will be between qualifying/the race live and them being available on sky player? I'm not getting up at 5am to watch, but i'd like to catch them ASAP. Any guesses or knowledge on how long it took for p1 and 2 to go up?

Nice to see redbull not on the front row, only managed to catch q3 due to being at work.

Nice mix up of cars in the top 10.

But the big question-Ferrari-WTF? Very poor IMO.

Also goes to show the practice is nothing to go by.

That is a great line up for the first race of the season!
My 2 favs for the title on top - followed by an outsider (to mix things up) - followed by my fav 3 challengers to keep things exciting!

Can't wait for tomorrow!!

Who's watching the race live and who's going to Sky+ it?

So Rep, from your box of excuses would you say Ferrari just had a bad day at the office, and McLaren are obviously cheating to take it out by such a margin, or is Vettel's finger just weighing him down?

Surely all that Red Bull domination was driver skill and not blown diffuser....

Im sure they will bounce back, but in the meantime I'm looking forward to the forthcoming photoshop of Ramilton you'll be producing for us, qually feels a bit empty without it!

You have to laugh...A basic sky package through Virgin costs £35 a month. so lets say £18 a race :) some guy i was talking too last night said he was going down the pub to watch for free...I'm ****** sure i couldn't spend 2 hours in a pub and not spend less than £35.:lmfao: anyway...what time is the race :)
Seems to me with F1 teams struggling to get sponsor ship, slashing the TV audience might make Bernie a bit richer but its going to hurt the teams.

People can always afford beer and fags over anything else!! LMAO.

Im sure Bernie needs to pay for the exploits of his daughters last TV show. whilst I find him hard to like he has a talent for lining his pockets through commercial partnerships that beggars belief, the problem like you say is he seems to be the predominant benefactor no matter how rich he gets. I'm no longer sure the sport is benefitting as half of the teams rely on drivers bringing sponsors from country of origin.

You've been quiet lately Pad, new Vivaro / new business?

Lovely jubbly guys, Lewis top, button second, red bull struggling and Ferrari no where. Think that's a good day for me :)

Hi all, i realy enjoyed Qualy think it was what we all wanted to see.. a mixed up grid setting up what i hope will be a good race tomorrow.

did i hear just at the end ...that red bull and lotus put in protest about the mclaren cars????????
may find out more on the BBC later ?

It will be interesting to see what happens. i will not be watching but thats fine, its my choice. Switching a world wide sport event to pay per view at a time when the whole world is suffering on the money front does not seem like a good move for the sport TBH. If i lost my job or was struggling to pay any bills then PPV TV would be the first thing to go, in fact i don't even bother with it anyway. to me SKY is a bilge pump that needs F1 or premiership football to get people to watch it because it has nothing else to offer. Pity the BBC couldn't sell the Olympics to Sky as well :)
Started a new business the first of this month Warren :) working 7 days a week for the moment so not on here too often but things will settle down.
Cheers mate

Think Renault are protesting about Mercedes, but then I'm sure this is pretty much part of he sport. Surely all changes have to be FIA approved so if it makes it through scrutiny who are they to complain?
