I’ve got a 2.5tdi 180bhp. It’s running really well, it loses no oil and is averaging 37.5mpg with FSH which will be maintained. I intend keeping this car for at least another 2 years and do around 15-18K per year. Mileage is approaching 180K but the car seems fine. The clutch is new (15k old), CAMS look tidy (through the filler hole anyway), it’s had 4 timing belts, I’ve done the Mr Muscle Turbo clean and the VP44 diesel pump was replaced by the previous owner.

The problem is - I’m jealous! I keep reading about the benefits of remaps or tuning boxes but I’m $hit scared of knackering my car as I need it to last those 2 years so I don’t want to do anything that will cause me problems.

I don’t really need more power/torque as it’s already got plenty for my driving style but I’m a bit of a greedy git and like giving it the beans now and then! I understand the options are....1. Remap - £300>£400 / 2. Tuning Box - £300>£400 / 3. Pedal Box - £200.

The pedal box claims to stress the engine components less. Does anyone have experience of the pedal box on a 180bhp 2.5 tdi, and if so what were your experiences? I cant find any reviews anywhere. Details on the pedal box in the link.

Whats a pedal box?I have 2 tuning boxes cos my 2.5 tdi tiptronic came with one and I kept one from my previous manual. The claimed increase in BHP didnt interest me but there seems to be better mpg. Both are said to cost about £400 new but I dont think the results justify that unless you do high miles and are sure the mpg would cover the cost

Or PedalBox tuning throttle remapping response

you could go custom map so that way you have best of both worlds you can choose to have a bit more power/torque, instead of most generic maps ripping the *** out the car.....

Thanks. I'd never heard of them before either Mike. Came across them on the Diesel Tuning site.
And thanks Andrew......I'm very tempted but wanted to check if anyone had tried these.
What reliability concerns do people have? I'm sure I've read about some people having problems with accelerator pedal connections on the B6?

We've just remapped our s3 va shark, the pedal box transforms the car even more..

It moves the power ban lower in the rev range.

I picked up a DPT tuning box for mine. £400 new and I paid I think £125 secondhand a couple of years ago. It gives a claimed 210bhp (I've never tested it), but I do know it smoothed the torque curve out noticeably, especially between 1300-1800rpm and the car is significantly quicker. Plus I get a proven 2-3 extra mpg. It's obviously dependant on you finding an appropriate box secondhand.

I have a dtuk tuning box spare for this model! Only 3months old but car is going without it so no longer needed. Made a noticeable difference! Pm me.

Update - 2nd hand tuning box purchased and fitted.....what a difference!
I am getting a bit of rumble/vibration if I floor it in 5th and 6th at low revs (around 1500rpm) but it dissapears towards 2000rpm.
The clutch and DMFlywheel were changed 15000 miles ago. I have the 01375 engine mount fault code showing and the gearbox/diff oils are the original and 180,000 miles old. Does anyone know if sorting either of these out stop the rumbling/vibration?
Thanks in advance.

Engine mount seems a bit tricky but dont think the oils would cause a rumble

Thanks. IDecided 'm gonna get the mount sorted in the next few weeks.
I just wondered about the oils as there's obviously a lot more torque going through the gearbox/diff and if the oils have degraded quite a bit then it might cause problems? Or have I made that bit up??

its your dmf cant cope with the extra harsh torque m8, mine done the same

Cheers Mark. So does this mean I'm going to fry the DMF if I keep the box on? Or if I simply avoid flooring it at low revs in high geas will it be OK? How did you sort it out?
Sorry about all the questions but I don't want to be paying for a second DMF anytime soon.

simply build up the revs a bit before you nail it m8..... i went back and tamed the map down at low rpm and now running sweet
