Hi everyone,

I know there is a thread in the 8L A3 sub forum relating to warranty claims for roof channel edge corrosion, but I have the same problem on my car, a July 2003 A4. I approached Derby Audi about it last week who sent photo's off to Audi UK, and I got a phone call late this afternoon saying that Audi had agreed to cover 70% of the repair cost, and I would have to pay the other £320 (ish, can't remember the exact figure).

Through doing a search it looks like a couple of other B6 owners have suffered the same problem, so what have been your experiences in claiming against the warranty?

All the best

id say they should foot the full bill and clearly have hung there selfs by saying they would cover 70% of the cost they get out of it if your car does not have a full audi servise history so if you have that there is no reson for them not to pay the full amount id have thought they are not doing you a faver buy footing just70% more just saving there selfs the layout of the full 100%

I don't have FASH, although it has always been taken to Audi whilst I've owned the car. From looking at the corrosion thread in the 8L sub forum, it looks like 70/30 is Audi's standard response these days. One guy is taking Audi to court but he hasn't updated in the thread since about 4 weeks ago.

well if they are covering 70 of yours id say well done mate as you do not have a full audi sh only thing do you get to pick where it goes ?

I don't get a choice but I know Derby Audi use Chartwell, and they are the business according to friends who have had work done there. Also they do the repairs for Aston, Ferrari, BMW etc as far as I am aware. So I'm more than happy for my car to go there.

reson i asked if you can pick is you can work it so the 70% they pay covers the full amount ;-) as if you still have to pay 300 plus that sounds a lot to me

I got told they would pay 70%, i'd pay 60%.. Theres 2 different paint warranty's, 1 warranty covers paint corrosion from the inside of the car, and this warranty is 11 years, however the corrosion warranty that covers all the paintwork is only for 3 years.. So audi will not fully subsidise the roof guttering corroding. I went to a local paint shop and they did some quite substantial damage at the same time to the rear bumper which included filling. This cost £330 in total and the job is perfect. The colour matches perfectly, and the dent/bubbling is un-noticeable.

I thought I'd let you know that I got nowhere asking Audi to cover 100% of the cost of the repair. So I booked it in as I'd heard good things about the bodyshop Derby Audi use. The work took a week and the repair looks good. However once I got the car home, and looked at the paint in direct sunlight there are swirl marks from poor washing, lots of new scratches on the doors on either side of the car, and buffer trails, so I'm not happy at all. I have complained to the dealership this morning, and I'm awaiting their reply tomorrow.

I had corrected the paint myself and always wash it with the 2 bucket method, the swirls weren't there when it went in, so I'm a bit gutted as all the work I had put in to keep the car nice has been undone.

Also I've got a bit of bubbling on one of the front wheel arches now which I have also pointed that out to Audi and will need assessing at some point with a view to claiming on the warranty.

Well, my experience of OCD detailers like yourself, is that you guys sure take plenty of photos. Therefore it shouldn't be much of an issue to prove the swirls / scratches weren't there before?

Hopefully. I have some photo's but I'm not as bad as some, most of the time I'm rushing to get it finished rather than taking photo's. I have got some reflection shots I can show them. I'm sure they'll try and get out of it somehow.

i took mine in to tamworth audi as mines pretty bad really, the geeza came out with is paint measuring tool and asked for my service history book seen it was serviced up to 72k full audi then missed 2 services in the book then audi specialist since..... the reply back was without service history you cant claim.... i replied what's service history got to do with it..his reply was then if you brought it back here our fitters would do paint work checks.... i then laughed and replied that would be a first and then discovered im wasting my time trying so i gave up. In all fairness mines very tatty all around on the paintwork in previous years its been touched up in many places but i brought it for a cheap diesel run around not to be a ocd minter so im not that bothered but would have been nice to of been offered a deal to get it repaired !! as my theory stands its the metal under warranty so cant see why the service history as to come in to it

Its as the guy said. Whether they actually do look or not is a different story, but the official line is that the cars paint is looked at and anything needing rectified should be brought up earlier.

i noticed this on mine about a month ago, just on one side above the rear door. can i take it to any audi dealer ? warrington audi is a 2 minute drive away, it's not even worth thinking about if i need to take it back to were it originally came from which would be cardiff audi !

can be any main dealer but you will need full dealer service history

you just gotta go and ask them m8 but im sure they will turn you away aswell..... post up the answer !!!

he told me it must have there dealer history as they inspect there paint works....... job blogs around the corner doesnt will be there get out claus

Sounds like trying to get out of it to me. As long as you report it soon after you notice it, then I would have thought you could claim.

Very generous by Audi to cover the repair of an old car. 8,5 years old. :salute:
Time passes by, quickly. The for me almost new car I purshased when it was 3 years old is very old now. Built october 2003, on the road two months later.

I remember the cars from the middle of 1970's and 10 years after that. They got big holes by corrosion within 3-5 years, often in the middle of the dooors. Those cars were sent to the junkyard after 10 years of use.

Took my car back in on Monday to meet the warranty man from Audi, and a rep from the body shop to show him the damage. Straight away he said that the scratches on the door are down to the them, but they won't take responsibility for the swirl marks. He says they washed it in exactly the same way they wash all the cars they have in, so they're must be swirls on all the cars that come out of there. I complained but their stance remains the same, they'll repair the doors but aren't prepared to look at the swirls issue.

I took my car in last week to have the roof corrosion looked at and have now been offered a contribution of 70% of the repair, leaving me to pick up the remaining £270~

But now im bricking it that they're gonna wash it and wreck the rest of my swirl free paint, going to have to ask nicely that they dont wash it

Also I was not asked for any service history at all, cant even remember what history I have as I have done it all myself for the last 18months

I was offered the 70/30 deal on my roof rail repair but declined ( I had full Audi history and only had the car a week at this point) so went to a bodyshop who I know and trust the manager to look after me being a family friend.

For the 30% i would have paid Audi, these guys sorted my roof rail, and other paint issues I wanted corrected and the finish is great...........another OCD clean freak here LOL.

I did have a small issue with a little overspray which t-cut would have taken off, but they took the car in again and gave it a full pro valet for me, so could not have asked for any more.

Hunt around for quotes from other reputable bodyshops as it will more than likely be cheaper than Audi

Mark I took mine into Audi in Tamworth as there is a rust bubble underneath the rear numberplate they looked at it and said its where the numberplate has been rubbing and cannot do anything I am annoyied as the numberplates been on the car since it was bought from Audi in the first instance dont know if I should take it any further as Ive sinced serviced my car myself over the last few years and wasnt sure if Id get anywhere blaming Audi as they are the ones who put the plate on the car grrrrr....

If it does go to chartwells it will be a good job I know the guy that owns it hes a perfectionist so hopefully his staff will be

I've been waiting neally 3 weeks for a response from them about mine and I've got the roof rust the front wing and under the number plate , to be honest I think they just take the **** and as said above that unless they cover 100% of it as its in their warranty I don't see why I need to reach into my pockets , if I get offerd the 70/30 ill tell them to stick it and will take it to a mate who is an amazing sprayer and I trust him to work on my car .

Mine did go to chartwell, the repair itself was good but as mentioned earlier, it came back with swirl marks, buffer trails and scratches. Definitely not the job of a perfectionist.

I've only had my car three days, looked at whilst it was raining (natures polish lol) On way home stopped to fill up and noticed some small bubbles on the roof gutter. I'm wondering if it's worth bothering trying to get audi to sort it? for £300 I reckon my local shop will sort it, there's also some bubbles on the front arches but on the front edge which I thought was odd.

It may need to go back to Audi for the coil pack recall, so guess I could ask the paint to be looked at at the same time.

I'm quite disappointed with the rust, my 2002 Skoda that this audi replaced didn't have any rust at all.
