Just been out & coming back down Broadway i had to move over to let a fully badged M5 past with its Blues on.

Shortly after i see some more lights & pull over only to find an Atlas grey ( or Dolphin, i dont know the colour name) 59 plate 3 door S3 coming past

Blue lights in the grille & also where the high level light is at the rear

Chrome grille. Standard older spoked wheels

Be careful out there chaps.....I hate cheats

Not sure if you watch Police Interceptors, but they have had a silver 8P S3 on there for a while (undercover), also around Warwick, they have a couple of undercover mk5 R32s and Focus Sts

Interesting, might take my silver S3 up there and scare some chavs!!

I am disgusted at why plod feels like he needs expensive branded vehicles for the job, why do they need top spec motors like Audi, Landrovers, BMWs etc!! Tax payer money being frivolously ****** away. Why cant they have cheaper Jap cars etc.. Not happy and one day i will make the effort to write to my MP but for now ill have a quick rant here.

Have you ever heard of resale values? Much better of course to let the criminals get away....

I can almost guarantee you that they will have been MOD cars anyway.

I was in Lugano, Switzerland, last week and all the police cars there are BMW estates. I think that the local taxpayers actually support this, they want to imagine that if they ever get arrested, they'll go to the police station in style.

If you are suggesting that a 1 year old 100 000 mile police BMW will fetch more than a toyota at a decommissioning auction then perhaps, but my point is the initial capital outlay if far more than is needed..

Dont understand what you mean about them being MOD cars, they are police cars..

We have a black Audi S3 down here too, East Sussex area. Does look nice to be fair :p

alot of the cars audi etc are taken from drug dealers etc etc
who gives a toss what they drive anyway
if your not doing anything wrong why be ***** ?

If they bought crap cheap cars always breaking down, then no doubt we'd have someone on here saying they are a waste of money too, which is quite rightly so. The police do buy cheaper brands, the vauxhalls for example are a reasonably priced car and generally quite reliable, but not the best. which is why they are used as panda cars patrolling about town.

The tax payers money is not being ****** away by buying top brands, the police have always had the best cars for motorway/traffic and armed responce duties because they need good reliable and FAST vehicles to get to where they need to go asap. The police up and down the country have bought the Volvo T5 2.5 estates for a while now because they can take the beating. they can also reach 150mph. they are sold by milage rather than age at 150,000 miles which is sometimes within 12 months. This is to get shut of them before high milage related problems occur and the cars are stuck in the police workshop and not out on patrol so they go and buy some more !

Cambrideshire police have Q7's , M5's, Fireblades, GSXR 1000's and so on..... drives me mad.

They get serious deals form the manufacturers, often with a lease option from the top marques. The manufacturers want them advertising their models so the police win each time.

I agree with the above points , interceptors need fast and reliable cars....but seen 2 brand new range rover vogues in white and black in Leeds on full blues then a mile down the m62 just cruising .....and obviously playing with each other...test runs maybe?
white one had red recaro leathers... :shutup2: could not see what the black one had as it stormed off again, shortly followed by the white one...both 2 doors by the way...

Warwick made me laugh for a long time... I lived there for 3 years... as you come off J13 on the M40 and drive some B roads... you could park on a bridge and look at a police compound for all their undercover cars. I don't know if you still can though... have not been there in a while but they had all sorts... including a few astra vxr's.

Looks like they like their RS3 down in Lugano

Lol as their markings are quite a giveaway!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were you with Blackie when he saw the M5 and the S3 in his original post?

It was those cars which I was suggesting were MOD cars, obviously if you've seen other marked cars I wouldn't have been referring to them!

There are marines based at the SBS base near me, they do a lot of high speed and pursuit driving in unmarked high performance cars.

Ok a misunderstanding then as I was not with Blackie or referring specifically to unmarked police cars etc ;)

interesting thread, i dont have a prob with them driving "expensive branded vehicles"

How much will an Audi/ BMW cost minus tax? i bet they getting them not far off cost price?

They are exempt road tax, but display it for public image.

if anything, the only thing i'd like to see is if they only drive cars that was made here in the UK

Lots of vehicles are exempt from road tax, but still have to display a tax disc, agricultural machines for example.

It would be pointless to use the tax payers money to pay tax!

I dont care what they drive, the faster and more reliable the better imo. If it means they get to any situation 30 seconds quicker than an vx astra, brilliant, it could literally be the difference between life and death. We have next to no say how they spend tax payers money anyway.

Also some of the higher end models you see about are seized under the proceeds of crime act and used as force vehicles.

they are, and put to good use.

Thats my point mate, so where someone will think the police are driving around in a 30k car.. thats what we pay, but not them!
I pointed out the road tax, cos again that to you and i will be aroung the £800 mark but not to them!

yes .. but as this thread is about police cars, sooooo i didnt list the others :)

handy bit of advice, emergency vehicles normally always have the beginning two letters of the numberplate the same, in my town, all of the fire service, ambulances and police (including undercover) start with EU next time you see one keep note and see if its the same for your area.

Hampshire police use Octavia RSv's on the M3. The only way you can tell from the back is the arials and the camera mounted below the centre of the rear spoiler.

EU... you must be from Essex area I'm guessing ? any vehicle beginning in E , (EA EK EF etc) are all registered in Essex, it's just where ever the local services buy them from which is obviously going to be somewere in the region.

Round where I live in Cheshire, I have noticed our police cars including unmarked, and ambulances all begin with DK, which is the Chester DVLA office, Civi cars have DK too, also DA and DF are from Chester but the services always seem to have DK :S At least I can spot an unmarked one at anytime though lol

they've had that one for a while they have a few in manchester as well as B8 A4 Avants and as i know of 2 RS4's! god only knows if they will get in a fleet of VW Golf R's after having one on loan then writing it off in trafford park on a round about at 2am!

The police around Merseyside are using Hyundai i30's around here now!

I would have thought they would have rather kept the BMW's for a few more years then buy those

doubt it, its money seized from fraudsters which goes towards to these flash cars, e.g. drug dealer sells drugs buys big houses and loads of supercars, police catch him, court strips him off assets as cant prove he paid for them legally like joe public then gives to police man who goes out blows it on flash motors to catch thieves

hahaaa
