Just out of interest which would you say is quicker.. I know a standard S3 would get murdered but against a Mapped S3 which would you say is quicker...

I agree I know which I would prefer too!!!!!!!!!!

Also I think it would be a good race until you come to corners then I think the S3 would come into it's own.

Sorry 240bhp VXR against an standard S3, your going to get done aren't you!
Nice new VXR has got all his BHP & the S3 may have lost some, no doubt!

I'd say about even, the Astra is going to struggle to put the 240bhp down from launch but then should easily gain it back. Would be close I think.

Have a couple of VXR's locally, and I won't even bother trying! In the wet i would of course, but in the dry would not even giving him the pleasure of looking in their direction! :sly:

Astra VXR

Engine: 2.0-litre, 16v 4cyl turbocharged
Power: 240PS @ 5,600rpm
Torque: 320Nm @ 2,400-5,000rpm
0-60mph: 6.2 seconds
Top speed: 152mph

Ive driven 2 vxr's and I can say from standard the astra if Quicker, Plenty of traction though and they dont handle too clever (reminded a little of the Cupra). Very surprised how quick they were though, Nice looking motors aswell.
S3 would kill it in the twistys but I suppose the Quattro would always eh.

Yeah the VXR wouldnt be something u'd wanna race in the dry, very very quick, they get bad press about spinning the wheels too easily and not putting the power down but ive driven one and didnt find it bad at all, seems like press hype to me. Did the same with the 147 GTA and they're hilarious to drive.

Suppose it depends what you want from the car, they're very easy to drive quickly - steering is perfect and everythin feels nice n tight, the car feels light too despite the big engine up front - its fwd so you need to watch understeer and snap off oversteer, apart from that the noise is beautiful and the power delivery nice and smooth. Not the most involving feeling car to drive oddly enough, but you get alot more out of pushing the car than i have out of any s3 ive driven

Still an alfa and prob a worrying car to own and watch depreciate!

now then most of us are on here for a reason thats Audis build quality!
i don't think we need to be comparing penis sizes do we?...
just for the record i've had a VXR and a 888 one and an Ford Asbo aswell.
but thats just for the record!
but seriously do we need to ask which is better/faster out of them as its too late cause you most probly already own the Audi!?!?:yahoo:

Well that's put an end to that then. :jester:

It may be fast but its still a Poxhall, Has the build quality of an Airfix kit that was assembled by an epileptic at a rave.

60 in 6.2, well im not sure of the o-60 of an s3 but it cant be far of that and the s3 needs to hit 3rd to get there. i dont know if the vx has to or not but a maped s3 sould sort it without to much problem and kill it i the turns,,

I dont.
There is a VXR near me and that thing shifts, surprisingly sounds very good too.No way would a standard S3 keep up with that in a straight line race.

Be alright in roman times then, but not much good in milton keynes...

Thread rivival! But I had a play with one.. Was fast although it edged ahead when I had to shift to 3rd, but was still behind him.. 4th and 5th I gain for the overtake.. I also have to mention I had a full car of passengers and the VXR had 1 passenger. If it was even then I'd of been ahead. Need more power now so off I go to order a B5!

Raced VXR with Map, Exhaust, airfilter etc.

Lost him in 3rd....he wasnt happy. He's actually my girlfriends x :)

Pretty even with my stage 1 s3, he couldn't pass but kept up with me on straights and twistys, very capable cars, although think I'd prefer the focus st or RS

Going to be honest dude, I find that one fairly hard to believe unless it's raining. In standard form the astra VXR is a pretty good match for a stage 2 ko3S FWD car, so against a mapped one, I really can't see a stage 1 TQ having much of a chance!

I'd be inclined to agree. They are a good motor, and for the PS they put out, they use it very well indeed. I like them.

Plus that Vauxhall Arden Blue is a lovely colour... :)

Plus they sound nice! This one popped and all sorts!

yea, I raced a VXR nurburgring a good few times when I was st2 ko3S, very even race, although the VX sounded awesome with the remus exhaust crackling on every gear change!

Sounds about Right Jimbo, I've always said st2 ko3S is about on par with a stage 1 S3, so you finding yourself level with a VXR is i the right ball park.

Whats with the hate for the KO3s TQS anyway>?

Baring in mind that there is not a lot AT ALL different to the S3 apart from some cosmetic crap on the sides and a load of S3 badges.

I couldnt honestly say what "stage" if any thomas is - but its quick - and has A LOT of torque in 3rd and 4th.

There's no hate dude, just trying to be realistic.

The S3 has the bigger turbo, the FWD ko3S has the light weight, so both have around the same power to weight ratio, and are evenly matched.

the ko3s TQs has neither the bigger ko4 or the light weight of the fwd, so on paper, it's the slowest of the bunch.

Not hating at all, just looking at facts. I'd expect a mapped TQ to be quicker than a stock s3, because it'll have similar bhp but with more torque, but against a mapped S3 I wouldn't expect it to stand a chance. mapped S3 and st2 fwd A3 are very much on a par, and the general consensus is that both these cars arn't a million miles different from an Ashtray VXR.

All the weight of an s3 without a k04, again no hate just facts ;)

Smashed a Corsa VXR last night also sounds awesome.

 You have just said you lost it in third? i thought that meant you were a lot faster than him.... or by lost it did you mean you come off the road.....:)

No not off the road. It was side by side til we hit uphill joining motorway. The A3 just pulled like a train uphill, then into 4th when it levelled out and he couldnt overtake

straight up, my mate owns a VXR and realistically unless the person in the vauxhall can't drive or lacks the use of his arms or legs they would beat the s3 hands down. His is mapped as well and it's scarily quick.

Precisely my point, on paper - yeah they are quicker. But this time....he wasnt.

My brother has a gorgeous standard Arden Blue Astra VXR. I've a mapped S3.

I've driven both point to point on a 0.4 mile straight stretch between a roundabout and a marked point.

With a rolling start the S3 will pass the point 3mph slower than the VXR every time. It is certainly close but then the VXR is lighter. I find the gear change on the S3 is also slower than the VXR.

I really like the look of the later VXRs. He does get hounded alot by folk wanting to race him though.
