Well how fast is an S3, is it fast but doesn't feel it or does it feel fast? I used to have a jdm dc2 and this doesn't feel much faster than that!! I have a 2000 plate S3 and been remapped by jabba I think it is(got a receipt from previous owner) but if I'm honest it doesn't feel that fast. Seems hesitant and not very gutsy mid range, I've floored it once or twice 1st though 4th and it doesn't feel gutsy at all, to say I'm disappointed is a slight understatement :-(
i have the same issue as a couple of folk where I have the loud sucking noise on boost so maybe I have a leek somewhere.

I needed to get to 3figures plus to pull away from a DC2 in my remapped S3. So when you say they are similarly quick, I'd say you are about right.

I'd imagine there may be a leak. Bare in mind s3's aren't the fastest thing out there. But the torque you get especially once remapped should make it feel a little more gutsy then you describe.

Standard they are too heavy and you'll feel underwhelmed.

Remapped they are far more enthusiastic and quick enough albeit that you always feel there's more to give from a great chassis.

When properly modded, they are quick...or at least mine is. But there again, you could say that about many vehicles and the cost can spiral. I reckon I've spent about £5k+ in the last 2 years on mine.

Time, money and inclination.

Run VAG-COM and see what airflow your getting, should be 200+ ish for a remapped S3 that will give you a idea if you're producing the power you should be. As others have said S3 not the fastest car in the world but a remapped does feel pretty rapid, and it sounds like yours may have issues. Post VAG-COM logs if you can.

My mate is back next week and can get VAGCOM so he says he'll run that for me and we shall see!! I would have expected it to be quicker than a dc2 :-( disappointed now haha. Bit more luxurious than a dc2 though I suppose.

Depends on how measuring speed really. Straight line, off the mark, country lanes or around a track. I doubt the handling will be up to much.

whow take it easy on the jap bashing, the dc2 was/is a phenomenal car for what it is, hope this isn't an S3 blinkered forum lol. I would say the dc2 is much more fun than the S3, although an S3 has a "friendlier" status among local people.
Speed wise I just mean you know when a car feels fast and doesn't feel fast? I get a decent pull at the lower end of the revs but after 4k it seems unbelievably tame, I expected more "grunt". But I shall see what VAGCOM throws up next week :)

Plenty just read the paper stats of fast VTEC cars and write them off.

A DC2 would def give a mapped S3 a run for its money purely down to weight. Two different cars though.

Sounds like you have problems somewhere though. Hope you get it sorted.

I've come from owning jap and my mapped S3 is still slower and not as agile, but it has better mpg, cheaper insurance and doesnt attract unwanted attention. When thats weighed up against only a few mph difference in the real world, you can't really complain :)

I good VTEC staging session always got the blood pumping though lol

K04's tend to run our of puff quite quickly the best thing for it is a Badger 5 80mm Turbo Intake Pipe, Helps the car pull better for more of the rev range. check the forum sponsor section ;)

Unfortunately you'll get used to it though, as ever....

The DC2 will be fast when compared but its a completely different power.

They are lighter and gear ratios in them are short and ahigh revving, thus making MPG unbelievable in my cousins,

But tunability... the 1.8T wins everytime hands down.. time to get yourself a big turbo ;) - Downpipe, and a Rtech Remap ( Rtech being the only company i can not fault at all.)

A good swig of V-tec in the morning wakes your *** up for sure :)

I remember when I went from my ep3 30th anniversary to my s3, first thoughts were the obv pull away power but felt the civic 'felt' faster. You'll get used to it mate lol

Remapped they are far more enthusiastic and quick enough albeit that you always feel there's more to give from a great chassis.

I've been side by side with a mates Accord Type R when I was mapped up to silly speeds and there was nothing in it, the difference is 'I' was doing it in style.

Tec is also the ultimate in stress relief! If you`ve had a bad day, get in your car, once its warm (tec wont work when cold and limiter is lowered) and hammer it and it just loves it. No better solution.

And the gear ratios are only shorter if you have a 98+ spec with 4.7 ratio box. Rest are 4.4 so will still do 40-1, 60-2,95-3 roughly..

The answer to this question is yes.

However, this answer applies to all S3's sadly, so I wouldn't worry about yours being a bad example, it's normal :moa:

There's prawn with his word of genius once again :readit:

I'm an S3 owner but lets be honest Honda engines are just SH1T H0T!!!!! I was stuck between buying the S3 or civic but went for style and comfort!! lol

This Jim is the reason I bought the S3, although I thought it would have had more grunt than the DC2. But as I say maybe i have some issues and I have a leak somewhere but shall see. I'm a big Honda fan but unfortunately there comes a slight chavvy stigma attached to them :(

Haha! Yeah exactly what was going through my head mate! To be honest and I hope nobody takes offence to this post but do you honestly think you will get a true opinion on an Audi forum about a Jap car being as quick if not quicker than an Audi?!? Ha I wouldnt have thought so pal! The honda engines are ****** bulletproof and a car that can happily rev to 8500-9000 rpm is saying something!! but the interior etc is just nowhere near an Audi!! I didnt really like the idea that the low end power of the honda is kinda none existant although that wouldnt make much difference in a race! As you might have guessed im also a fan of both!!

Haha if I'm honest I LOVED the inside of the DC2, loved the "basicness" of it to a certain extent (although she rattled like a good woman).
I drove an EP3 the day before I bought the S3 and it was a lot torquier than I expected :) drove a dc5 a while back and thought it was pants compared to the DC2.

My opinion is, you have to have owned a DC2 and used it out on a track to understand what it's all about! :racer:

Comparing a DC2 with an S3 is like comparing apples with pears.

DC2 Integra is a future classic, if not already one, the S3 is not quite and won't be I don't think. If Audi made the 8L S3 capable of 0-60 in under 5 secs with proper Torsen 4wd, then it would have been a brilliant car, but Audi sucked out and made it safe and comfortable!, but it's still desireable!

My best two mates have teg's,first mate in question (dc2) is running 201bhp,with it being half the weight of the s3,there was'nt anything in it (mine with tip exhaust map),second mate (dc5) very nice for the money,it's standard and quicker than dc2 tuned.id say dc2 feels quicker inside (louder, lower as standard),good handeling car,dc5 not so conected to the road feels smother (bit plastic looking),but great for the money!. I now have new hybrid ko4 and xs mani finaly fitted today,by by lil teggy, neither freind know's what i have done either,so il say all i have done is a oil filter change me thinks lol hehe!:racer:

The honda engines are good, i was suprised at how fast they all are. I have never lost a race against a honda though.. 'yet'.
