I have a 2006 B7 2.0 tdi q 170 and have just had a 4 injectors replaced FOC by Audi . I am now thinking of going down the route of removing the DPC possibly with JBS in Chesterfield . BUT I am concerned about the MOT test emissions , should I be concerned ? will it pass ?

Last MOT there were virtual no emissions to measure !

I'm thinking about doing the same, so I asked a mate who is an MOT tester, he says it shouldn't affect the MOT smoke test.

i had an Alfa 159 2.4 v5 diesel and had a DPF removal by Angel tuning plus a remap and it was seriously faster with no DPF AND EGR valve isues

I am an MOT tester and I also do a lot of DPF removals/tunes.

It will be fine, Theres no requirement to physically have a DPF for MOT and, assuming the car is in good condition otherwise, is perfectly capable of passing the smoke test without the DPF in place. Most modern diesels hardly register on the smoke test. The ECU will give very little fuel and therfore smoke when reved and stationary. If they do tighten up on the diesel emissions test its extremely unlikely it will be retrospective.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input Steve, are there any issues after the DPF removal & remap regarding excessive smoke on acceration

Depends on the MAP. If you stick loads of fuel in you'll get smoke. Most the ones we have done have been really clean, with a careful map they can be clean. Think about a similar variant pre DPF and they all run pretty clean.

Thanks for the info Steve @ Lion Garage . Going to go ahead now just for the peace of mind as mine runs very well now .

DPF delete & a clean map from yourselves - what sort of results have you got, BHP, torque

i would be intrested as my dpf light on tonight lack of power turbo not kicking in then glow plug light flashing is this the way to go if so how much and where are you based im near heathrow...or could the egr be sticking worth cleaning out thanks steve b

I'll check up on the numbers, I don’t know off the top of myhead. It does depend very much on what the customer wants. With most 170hp PD'swe find that they lack a little in low down power compared to the 140, so our most popular remap tendsto be concentrating on gaining an increase in low down power and stretching thepower band as wide as possible, Obviously with a healthy increase at the topend. The results are very good with a smooth motor that has stacks of torqueand power from anywhere in the rev range making it a pleasure to drive.

If the customer wants max horspower we'll do that but they are going to risk some smoke and probably wont get the same spread of power.
Will be back with some numbers for you.

Check the fault codes and see what it says first. EGR sticking will cause DPF issues amoungst other things.

By far the most common issue we see is an Implausible Particulate differential pressure sensor reading. Check the reading (I think its MVB 67 in VCDS, I dont tend to use the number system on Autologic so I could be wrong) from differential pressure sensor is 0mb KOEO (key on, engine off) if it shows a value higher than 0 there is an issue, check pipes for blockage, and theres always potential for wiring issues but its usually the sensor. On some VAG engine management systems you can carry out an adaption for the sensor which is worth checking.

Once you are happy the sensor is reading OK,

At idle you will be idealy looking for a value in single figures (IE 1-9) anything more than 15mb and your looking at trouble starting.
At cruse it should be in lower double double figures, Idealy less than 30mb.
Also check the ash mass or particulate loading which will also be in MVB 67 or there abouts (if I remember correctly) Ash mass would ideally be below 50%, the lower the better. The VAS system will refuse to re generate over 90%, other tools can force re gen after this but theres a risk of fire from the heat produced. I have forced re gen at 155% Ash mass but its not advised.

If the filter is too overloaded to regenerate then there are some good gel cleaners to soften the soot prior to steam cleaning.........Or just remove it!

Steve, how do you guys remove the dpf is it a new pipe or just the internals removed and have you had any clutch issues with the extra torque gained when remapped?.

What kind of price are you guys fora complete dpf delete and mapping on an 07 A4 170 tdi

+1 would like to know this as well.

Hi Guys.

Removal wise we will do whatever the customer requests.

If a pipe is available we can supply and fit a removal pipe. We are actually running an offer on some performance parts in March, Some brief details can be found on our face book page and web site
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lion-Garage-Hay-on-Wye/186218811452743

If a pipe is not available, we can in many cases fabricate one, We have a reasonably equipped machine shop along with MIG and TIG welding. This very much cost and difficulty of fabrication dependant.

Some customers prefer an un altered look, in which case we would remove the internals of the filter by whatever method is best. Some need to be carefully cut open and re welded.

We are careful on standard cars not to have any torque spikes which is usually the end for the clutch and DMF, If the clutch is in good order you shouldn't have any issues. If the clutch is on borrowed time the tune may push it over the edge, but you would be needing one soon anyway. We have had no issues with clutch so far.
The car would be tuned to whatever the customer requests. The most popular is all round drivability with a healthy power increase but can also be tuned for max power, max fuel econ etc etc.

Price wise it would depend on which option you would like, Replacement pipe, removal of internals or if necessary pipe fabrication.

Let me know what option you would like and i'll send you a quote.

There's obviously the offer on the face book page/web site for March plus I will do my best to give whatever discount I can for forum members.

Cheers.
Steve.

Does it make any difference if you just remove the filter as apposed to removing the whole lot for the replacement pipe?

I'd seriously be interested in this too depending on price. Driveable map and whatever DPF removal is best.

Is there any point removing the EGR at the same time? Some seem to think its worthwhile other have said its not such a good idea.
