Found this on the front of my 11 plate A3 yesterday whilst washing...

What are my chances of Audi doing anything about it?

Ive emailed the pics off to the dealer, but I wont hold my breath....

all depends if there are little stone chip marks. If so you have no chance really.

i had it on my 58 plate last year. I had no stone chips so they repaired it. compete respray. on rear bumper.

if the surface is completely smooth it should be covered under warranty I believe.

About quarter of the way down the laquer peel on yours in the picture looks like a stone chip :-/

Yeah, I saw that when I looked at the photo.

Surely that should not cause an area the size of that to fall off?

its these damn gritting lorries that chuck out small pebbles rather than grit!

with it being the front, you've got loads of wind being forced on it. along with rain and moisture. I actually did mine when the weather was icy cold. I used a hot jetwash... it was my fault but Mr Audi got the bill ;)

ive never had it peel before... Had a golf before that was battered and chipped on the front after 3 years, but the lacqure never did this!

Even my brand new S3. it's done 2k now. the paint has come off behind where the front mud guard is fixed on the front bumper. doesn't say much for audi's paint quality at the moment!Mr Audi will know about this soon!

Is it the mudflaps that have caused the damage or would it have happend anyway? Don't suppose you have a pic your white S3 with the flaps on it?

Op, I can't believe your paintwork is like that!! Good luck with Audi. Surely that tiny chip can't have caused that sized area of paint damage!

it's not after market flaps. it's the black maybe ich diameter plastic that is bolted to the front bumper in the wheel arch. It's not in actually fact anything to do with the mud guard bit, it's just behind that part. . I'll get a picture after work.

cheers

Mike

My lacquer is doing the same. Got worse over this winter. My bonnet is where it's all at though. My local panel beater (friend of mine) says it's because it wasn't allowed to se properly, they rushed it. Poor job. Personally i think Audi should sort this because my last S3 (V Reg) never had this problem and it was 7years older with 80,000miles more on the clock!!

There is no excuse what so ever for Lacquer peeling like that on a 11 plate, stone chip or not. Cars have had stone chips since time began and the paint doesn't fall off !!!
This is as a result of the last lot of stupid EC regulations with the ban on thinners and the use of water based paints. Up until last year i worked for a company making paint test machines and manufacturers were in disarray then because the EU kept changing the rules and no one had time to fully test paints before they were pushed into use.i was shown a factory colour swatch card from Ferrari that was in use at a UK dealer and you could push your thumb nail into the yellow which had not gone hard after months.
Take it back and complain like hell.

They will do a paint depth check to see if it has previously been painted - just don't take no for an answer as that is quite ridiculous to be honest the amount of peel.

So after 2k my bumper is already losing paint? It will no doubt spread further and further.

Is this only happening on solid colour cars or all colour finishes? If my 11 plate car was peeling like that I'd be straight back to the dealer! My 07 and my parents 10 plate car has not got this issue and neither did the 04 car before it but they are all metallic or pearl colours.

Well i am surprised they lacquer solid colours, new one on me ?

Add me to that list, i've got a horrible patch on my front wing! No sign of any stone chips. Mines pearlescent paint.

Didn't think they did either, but the first pic is Red, so could me Misano Pearl I guess and the other poster has a Ibis White car....

TBH that is definitely a dealer warranty repair, stone chip causing that so quickly on an 11 plate 8P, nah, not likely unless its been under heavy pressure kjet wash daily, take it to dealer, I suspect it will be fixed under paint warranty, if not then goto audi uk as they have to allow for stone chips with paint & I've had numerous cars with stone chips & not had anything like that arise from.

That looks more like grit has worn away, tbh I'd expect to see it more in that location given its basically on the tarmac anyway, of course also not good, but nowhere near as impossible to understand as the lacquer peel on the red car.

This is the exact same thing that has happened to me...in the exact same place as well. I actually noticed it around 1500 miles...

Is the dealer not just going to fob this off though?

An update:

After many emails, Audi have authorised the work to be done. Its going in for a WEEK to the dealer for an entire bumper re-spray.

Just need to arrange the R8 whilst mine is away... yeah right.

Hi Guys,

I'm from Sydney, brought the Ibis white S3 LE and collected last Tuesday only travel 450KM. Just found the same area as above where the paint are peeling off and the dealer were so angry about it since they built me a wrong car twice and now the paint is peeling off.

The result is they are willing to re-spay the front and rear bumper for me, what came out from Audi HQ Australia was the paint wesn't mean to be paint there but to stop the paint keep peeling off they are willing to re-spay it for me.

Took it back up to Audi at lunch time and its going back to be sprayed again!

Mines in as we speak for the lacquer peeling where they fixed a rust spot on the passenger door last year. All under warranty so I'm not fussed.

Im not fussed either, as its a company car it will be fixed.

Just annoying that its had to be done twice!

Dear Audi - get better paint!
