I have just been looking at a handful of cars on Autorader and was dumbstruck by a number of people asking near 7K for their 02/03' S3s. Strikes me as madness, don't you think ?!

I can buy an 04' S4 cheaper than that and certainly a B5 (which i sold 6 months ago for 5100 / 01/ FSH/ 80k/ 3rd owner) and that was a task to sell (started at 6250 5 months earlier!!) as the market was (and still is i guess) not good..

Supply and demand, the only reason people ask these prices is because people are willing to pay it. I personally think the S3 8L
is getting to an age now where it's getting cult ish status (new shape s3 does nothing for me) and people are looking for the run out models with decent mileage.. There are some nice facelifts out there however most have mileages in excess of 100+k. If you have all the optional extras, sunroof, brembos etc then it only adds to the appeal, of course a few tasty mods (Badger TIP) etc always help the cause...

I don't think people are prepared to pay 7k though - as much as the car may be in demand and mint etc.. Its wishful thinking imo. Granted people will pay 'good' money but 7k is taking the **** !! I will be watching them to see if there are some price reductions over the weeks to come. Will eat my hat if they sell at those levels..

Any car priced at 7k I'd say is realistically looking at a 5800-6000
sale price.

I know a lot of people say they are a 4k car but there have been a couple recently that have sold close to 6k....

That's not the most efficient pricing as you scare off prospective buyers imo. I tried that on a few occasions and it didn't work. Ok, most people expect to haggle a bit, but 1000-1200 off a 7k asking price is a big % and my belief is many people wouldn't even bother calling - even if they where happy to pay 5.8k.

Anyway, here's a more reasonable 2001 S3 for 22k.. :) Ok it has a 700 Bhp engine (any ideas on mod price please ?)

Super Coupes Ltd : Audi S3 2.5t big turbo 700hp

i believe this was built by Andy of storm developments, i saw it when i had my S3 mapped by them, this thing even looks the nucking futs in the flesh, i can only imagine how it might drive! Build cost? . . ALOT! not even including the man hours Andy and his team put in, i'd imagine that'd be the main expenditure if you were paying someone to carry out this sort of work.

Well worth 22k IMO

I would much rather save myself a couple of £k's and get myself a B6 RS4 than pay that for an 8l!

I cant imagine who would drop that kind of money on a highly tuned S3.. Problem with these highly modded cars is they have such limited appeal and reselling is tricky / or put another way, i think its very hard to get your money back on all those mods & labour costs etc !!

Or a mint b5 RS4 :)

Indeed :)

They never do. Always sell at a loss, plus, I can hardly imagine this being even moderatly reliable.
