I dont wanna paint it because i know that wont last long what are the other options?

You can wrap the surround or buy a black grill

I took my bumper off last year and did it myself, 10 quid for a piece of matte black vinyl, 31,000 miles later theres only one little chip from a stone.

That does look good people even use it for wheels this should be good to de-chrome as well nice find

I bought some for myself (have one tin of paint-on Plastidip and a can of the spray on stuff), but only used it to do my black S3 badge so far. It really gives an excellent finish, ..the trick is just to build up very light coats. You can also get a can of clearcoat Plastidip which gives a gloss finish. If you mess it up on your first attempt, you only have to scrape it off and try again, not completely re-prep as you would have to if you were painting it. The thing I like about it is - like vinyl wrapping - your original parts and paintwork are protected underneath. If it gets scratched, you just pull it off and do it again. xx

Where is the best place to get a Black edition grille? Think I need a darker grille too but want to keep the standard one as well.

Do you have any pics?

This plastidip stuff looks awesome! Checkout dipyourcar on YouTube. That guy plastidip's everything!

Let us know how you get on, i'm gonna be doing this on my split grilles once the weather warms up a bit! I tried wrapping them but couldn't get the chrome surround off to save my life!

I already have a feeling this is going to be like wrapping, everything's going to be getting plasti-dipped.

Can you please post a link to which plastidip il need (black). There's too many products so I'm a bit confused. Im looking for the spray can. Seen the video on youtube looks easy and looks quite good. Had mine painted matte black and it just peels off all the time

I also want to spray my chrome part of the grill like a gunmetal colour but plastidip dont offer a grey colour :(

I think you can get custom colours made up mate, the guy on YouTube had a gunmetal colour in one of his vids!

Cheers mate- £16 a can? Abit expensive it's available on the plastidip website for £9..

Oh yeah- looking to do this soon- sick of the paint just peels off- dont wanna spend 150 odd quid on a new grill hoping for an s3 soon

I think they have a make your own kit guessing i use white and black mixed to get a shade of grey. The youtube vid the gunmetal can only be bought from him in america and he wont ship overseas because of the laws on chemicals etc in transit

i'm gona consider doing this aswell to my s3 grill, is it worth getting clear coat because i want a gloss black finish?

great find paulie :o.k: just need to decide if matte or gloss look for a black car ???

I have matte black On mine (paint) looks great but I see a lot of OEM which is gloss which looks better in my opinion but it's your preference

essll that looks pretty decent. Had any problems with it when washing the car? Or even jet washing?

It's been on for 4 months or so - no chipping, or issues with pressure washing.

The clear coat doesn't actually add a glossy finish, it's just clear matte. What you'll need is the glossifier, which is in a separate section on the plastidip.co.uk site.

after this thread i had mine done, will take a pic of it on the car soon ;)

I can vouch for this stuff i did my grill and interior trim and it looks great you cant even tell its a diy job

This looks tempting. I was thinking of getting my s3 front and rear spitters painted gloss black to match the BE styling. Think it will look good on a white car. This could be a cheaper longer lasting option!! I would use the glossifier as well though.

Here's a pic of mine done :D

That looks sexy as a sexy thing, Fella, well done! I really rate this stuff and can see lots more people using it as it's easier than spray painting and much more durable than paint too. xx
