H7 XENON HID KIT.....your thoughts????????

Don't do it... Especially not for £30.

They are now illegal, and will fail an MOT.

There has been lots of discussion about these on the forum, have a look via search.

If you want to achieve a whiter and brighter light, invest in some decent halogen bulbs. I bought some Philips diamond vision bulbs for my fogs to get a cleaner and whiter look.

Cheers for that chaps....are there any decent bulbs out there that give a more crisp whiter beam??

just don't do it fella I've been stung by the wiper motor packing in its not worth it for some brighter lights that are illegal anyway there are a good few different bulbs out there now that replicate xenon white light osram and phillips are good ones

I've ordered some of these:
For Sale Brand New 6500K H1, H7, H11 Bulbs! - Civinfo

From the comments on the thread, people seem happy.

I had HID's already installed in my A3 when I bought it... Took them out after a week as they were flickering... I've got standard yellow bulbs in at the minute as i'm waiting for delivery. I'll post some pics when I get them if you want? Should be tomorrow or Thursday.

Thread hijack in process...

So everyones saying to go for uprated bulbs rather than HIDs, i understand its the better option for the A3 and obvious being legal its what should be done etc etc. But i duno what everyone elses opinion is on this, im becoming more and more away of cars with super bright halogens and they are to my eyes just as dazzling as HID kits with scattered beam patterns. Granted my eyes are more sensitive to light at night than the average person (something to do with the receptors in the back of my eyes) so i notice brighter lights alot more as i get dazzled quite easily sometimes (particularly when my eyes are strained or tired).

My point here is, everyone raves on about how bright and dazzling HIDs are, and they are but with these newer bulbs getting brighter and brighter, they're becoming just as bad.

My rear wiper motors already fubbered, so im getting HID's at the end of the month. The one thing i will say to you is if you're going to buy them and u dont have projectors in ur lights then do yourself and everyone else a favour and buy some H7R bulbs. Even though its still not legal to have HID's these are at least less dazzling to other road users. The R bulbs have a coat in the right places so the beam pattern stays as close to originally intended as possible. You will also need metal based bulbs as the plastic ones don't fit because they're too big.

Can't see from the link exactly what you bought mate. You have to sign up to the Civic forum to get the info !! (I think !!!!!!)

Can you provide a different link please ?

Hmm, i was under the assumption that it only affected the rear wiper but did anyone have a problem with the front wipers too?

Fuse or the actual motor? I'm confused now, i thought my rear wiper was forked cos someone had HID's in them previously before i bought it. Im pretty sure my rear wipers blown cos the fuse is fine. But i've seen a few A3's running HID kits perfectly fine :s, i saw one about a week ago. First Gen 8P, 53 plate i think.... any ideas?

Sidhu you are very misguided mate !

HID's incorrectly used are infinitely more dazzling than halogens.

Clearly, from your posts you have been given incorrect info.

HID's without washers and self levelling sensors are illegal and are subject to MOT regulations.

Please do not do it !

Here's the before and after on a Civic... We're looking at the dipped beam lights here mind.

Chances are rear wiper is 'forked' because water has got in from the washer pipe and knackered it !!! Common, almost mandatory fault on A3's !!!!!!

Looks good but are you sure they are 55 watt UK road legal ?

The seller who seems very reputable claims they're road legal... Not sure what watt they are?

They are 55w mate...e-marked and totally road legal. He said they're on the way so hopefully they'll come tomorrow... I'll get some pictures took (in the dark) and post them up.

Got the bulbs... Here's a comparison.

I'll post another when it's reet dark!

They were in single white boxes. I think the lad manufactures his own range of bulbs for cars as he sells quite a bit over on CIVINFO.

Here's a better look.... 1st pic has comparison between bulbs

This is both new bulbs

Sorry about the quality of images. The lights don't startle and they give off a nice whiteish blue light too... In my opinion a nice, cheap, legal alternative to HIDs. Obviously not in the same ball park as Xenons but for £16.50 they're cracking value when you think Diamond Visions are getting up to twice that cost.

Looks good but would like to see a photo of the packaging mate. Does it say 55watt and has it got a CE mark ?

The packaging was plain white and only had 12v 55w H7 on... The bulbs have 12v 55w E13 and a Chinese company name. Neither had a CE mark like... I've threw the packaging mind mate so can't take pics but i'm certain with the info i've given.

They look really well.......a cheaper and less damaging alternative to HIDs

These are meant to be decent a few members on here use them, although im confused as to what the fog fitting is as i've heard H7 and H11.
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Cheers for that link

I do not believe they are legal in UK as they state 'road legal for use in Europe' but also state 'actual ratings may vary'. This is not acceptable in UK.

In addition, I have fed my car info into the 'compatibility' checker and this particular advert states that the package (8 bulbs) on sale is right for my vehicle.

They are wrong because the fogs on my car are H7's same as main and dipped beam and they state fogs are H11's !

I wish to be proved wrong but I think this is a typical far eastern method of selling automotive parts in the UK that are not up to required performance standards.

A bit like fireworks !

He sells all manner of bulbs over on Civinfo... If you register then look at the civinfo-traders forum you'll see his thread about 6500k bulbs in different H sizes... Apologies if this is not allowed!

As I said, I found his thread by searching google, registered, ordered Sunday and received today.

They do the H7 kit iswell Main/Dipped/Fog/Side Beam Headlamp Bulbs 55w Super White H7 H7 H7 501 Xenon | eBay

For £15 for the whole set I think I might give it a go. The standard A3 side lights are the most useless things i've ever seen!

I'm sure they do but the compatibility chart is cobblers !

You need to know what you require because they won't tell you.

I will be interested in your thoughts on the sidelights. I have tried similar looking bulbs and they have turned out to be rubbish !

Edit :- just checked the compatibilty chart again and they say that the bulbs that I actually do require are not suitable for my vehicle !!!
