How does your car handle? (and tyre recommendations)

decisions decisions, im looking at the Kumhos now, i was moving towards the conti sport 5's.

I don't mind spending the extra for a good tyre, and i'm not majorly worried about the tyres wearing too quickly, as long as i get some decent mileage out of it. The rears will probably go for a while im not expecting the fronts to hold out for too long but i'd rather have grippier tyres that wear out quicker, than hard compound with no grip at all.

Can anyone advise on the conti 5's?

A timely and helpful posting as considering a 16" alloy/tyre package where the tyre choice runs into about hundred starting with 'budget tyres @ £50 each. The mind boggles as to how poor these might be and how soon they will wear out.
Whilst it was the tyres that were an issue not the Audi, how interesting that the Focus gets compliments. A very fine car indeed that is mostly bought as an appliance, yet other than the yob/Chav versions is rarely bought by the thinking intelligent enthusiast or by those for whom the badge is all important.

I had a Focus ST prior to my Audi. Does that mean Im a yob or a chav?

I've had a mk1 and mk2 focus and have always raved on about how good the chassis is compared to other cars i've been in and driven. Its an amazing car. Shame the new one has adopted the electric steering, aside from the dodgy rear it would have been a great succesor.

I don't think he was calling the drivers a yob/chav but the car itself. Cos of ole JC and that infamous top gear episode. And how could you give up the ST? I love 5 cylinders, and that one sounded beautiful (ull prob tell me all about mpg and diesels now lol)

To be fair, Focus' do seem to be the benchmark car, not amazing at anything, but relatively good at most things.
Ha the orange ones are a bit chavvy! I had a performance blue 3 door ST-2. I sold it because I wasnt really getting above 24mpg, £260 a year road tax, almost £1k to insure it and I also have a Honda Fireblade to run aswell with associated costs. I sold my ST literally weeks before the value of them plummeted, I was really lucky, the A3 TDi only cost me £500 on top the the ST sale money.
I had mine remapped to 275ish bhp, and also a Magnex cat back exhaust fitted (the quietest non resonated exhaust for the ST), and it sounded and performed perfectly. It is definitely a car I would own again in a heartbeat.

I'd have to disagree. The mk2 was miles better than the mk1. But i wouldn't consider either of them to be a benchmark, i'd say the golf is the supposed benchmark and the focus IMO handled way better. My brother had a mk4 golf and that handled like a boat compared to the mk1 focus. I've been in and driven and driven along with a few mk5s in varying engine specs and most except a GTI really seemed to bother the mk2 focus through the corners. There was just endless amounts of grip no matter what u chucked at it, i've had the rear break loose more than the front did and that was only on two (almost seat staining) occasions. I'd love an RS, im gutted that Euro V saw the end of the 5 cylinder duratec though

Just placed an order for 4 Continental sport contact 5's. Should be here thursday hopefully :) Just need to find a decent 4 wheel laser alignment company in the SW or W London area. Any recommendations anyone?

Your not far wrong there! My MK4 is apparently a GTi. ****** cheek putting a GTi badge on it! 65 profile tyres! WTF?

The supposed worst GTI of them all. Do love the 20vt's though. My bros one was a 1.6, on steelies with probably 65 profile tyres too. Aside from the handling it was a pretty nice car, but the amount of roll through the corners was scary! I would of thought the GTI would of come with a better suspension set up at the very least
