JUST WONDERING WHAT SORT OF TOP SPEEDS PEOPLE GET WITH TDIS ?

I'LL refrase .. what speed might peoples car do in germany lol....

German autobahn last year in November with 3 passengers, luggage and half a tank of fuel. 2.0 TDI 140 remapped to 182..... 134 mph with more in it if there wasn't traffic.

My speedo was showing 140MPH once before which in reality was probably about 136ish:asskicking: It was at about 3800rpm and wasn't going anymore but it felt like the car was going go explode! Wouldn't like to sit at the speed for long lol

tdi-man you haven't told us how fast you've been on the autobahn yet? :friends:

132 at mo dont like going fast on the autobahn at 3800 rpm

Was there more in it? Because you have way more power than me! Then again diesels have never been that good top end!

More power doesn't mean higher top speed. The top speed of the car won't change as it's due to the gearing the the top speed is what it is, not power.

I doubt there is much more from any A3 TDi after 140mph be it a 140 or 170.....

As soon as you go over 100 theres no point even looking at your speedo, 140 on the speedo could be moe like 120 in reality, audi say 129 for man 133 for dsg, so using a gps not speedo I doubt anyone has gone any faster than that.

My old a3 (140) shown 130 on speedo but the gps said 120-121 aprox, that was with a dtuk box too.

I had 110mph when i test drove a A3 2.0TDI 170 Black Edition last week. Obviously not the top speed but it felt like it had plenty more to give.

The stock figures for the 140 is 127mph and the 170 is 137mph.

Anything over 90mph in my TDI 140 i feel paranoid that I'm going to blow the turbo, however it will sit at 120mph all day long.

I'm well and truly over knocking the **** out of the car days, I'm that over it there's no remap planned for this TDI A3, i want decent miles to the gallon, reliability and something that is nippy when need be.

I don't know why but I'm the same. Both my Leons I've had flat out on several occasions but I've done just over 5k in the A3 and still not had it past 90.

To be fair mate 90mph is quick enough, but there are that many roadworks on the motorways now you can't even get past 50mph due to average speed!

Another reason why i don't bray this car about is because i actually like it and want to look after it, don't get me wrong i do give it a good blast through 3rd into 4th gear sometimes (to blow the cob webs out) but other than that i don't bother, i was also sick of paying for the repairs to previous cars.

God i sound like I'm 55 not 25.

how dare you smokey old tdi;s blast down the motorway at speeds of over 70mph save the planet knit some yogurt and buy a s3
oh dear me you must all be confused we are suppose go on about how many miles to the gallon we get not top speeds !!!!!

Haha i do! :icon_thumright:

:jester:'Previous owner' :jester:told me my 140pd will go as fast as 130mph on the motorway

I must be having issues somewhere... my recent trip to errr germany and i struggled to push anywhere near to 130 in a PD170. There is an intermittent dpf problem but the powers definately still there lower end. Just been reading up on people with seized calipers cause im also getting crap MPG. With my heavy foot im achieving high 20's low 30's with inner city driving. Motorway sees low 40's but im pretty sure it should be way more than this. Any advice?

your not too far out on the mpg town driving eats my derv not got dpf but seized caliper would not do your mpg anygood i would think

Go out for a drive on a dual carriage way for 15 mins, when you come back Carefully put your hand near each alloy wheel and check the temperature (don't burn your hand). If you can feel heat without even touching the wheel, thats a sign of friction and possible a sticking calliper (just from experience). This might help you diagnose the problem.

Why not just all sign up for the 30-130 day and do this legally on 1.8 miles of the smoothest widest tarmac in safe controlled conditions with no other cars or dangers to worry about with a VBox and then come back and brag about it?

Just my 2p worth.

No ones bragging, or I'm not anyway.

You can step down from your soap box now buddy. :icon_thumright:

Diesels aren't fast anyway, if i wanted speed and could afford the petrol i'd have an S3 or an R32.

Or an M3 :hubbahubba: Ever since I've had the A3 I've just become obsessed with MPG readings!

thats being a poor student my offer for the porkpie for your wheels still stand lol

M3 isn't for me, they look the nuts from the outside but i HATE inside BMWs, they just look so bland a crappy!

1) I'm glad you're not bragging and appreciate you clearing that up. However, I am sure that others are being encouraged to do so.

2) I'm not on my soap box - i personally think that talking about "private roads" and theoretical "autobahn" driving is a bit stupid on a public forum thats all. People have been, and will continue to be prosecuted for stupid loose tongue comments made on forums like this. I dont' care one iota if you loose your licence or not. Makes no odds to me.

3) I would suggest that you are encouraging others who haven't managed the top speed in their diesel to hit the nearest piece of dual carriage way or "private road" to see what theirs can do. I personally dont think this is particularly clever. That's just my view. You dont have to share it.

4) I have attended the 30-130 event at Marnham and now can safely say that in a controlled environment my car will say 176mph on the clock and 157 on the VBox but the only person i was putting in jeopardy was myself. No other road users, no passengers etc.

5) Do i know you?

Hence why i've not mentioned anything about this closed road, private track etc, i don't even know any!

I've merely said that the stock 140PD has a top speed of 127mph and the stock 170PD has a top speed of 137mph.

I was encouraging MPG and not knocking the **** out of my car everywhere i go as I'm past that stage now, 25 not 18.

Shifting some serious speed is that then, what you got? S3?

5) Do i know you?

Not sure mate, do you?
