New series of Top Gear

not sure it will have been to everyone's taste but has given me the idea we should try to do a filming competition on asn. Perhaps more in the style of an advert for our cars as opposed to a car chase. The wait for better weather should give us time to think of some ideas.

I like that idea.
Could be rather interesting.

Chez, its not the best but the panda section was good and the I liked the idea of the car chase, untill till hamond did what he all ways does, goes really silly and predictable for lolz when there is just no need.

hmm!
i just feel that it was lacking a bit oomph!
no proper desireable metal or any challenges!
it just seems they have ran out of ideas!

They ran out of ideas at the start of last series.

I find their build challenges the most entertaining when it was less scripted.

Ryan Reynolds was good, lol.

what utter bull that was tonight, i found it uncomfortable to watch it was that crap. Episode 1 was good but the last two were a waste of money...especially totalling that ford and jag - it wasn't spectacular or funny...just expensive

The three wise men are getting a little predictable. Topgear filming in a caravan park? Whatever could happen to those caravans? Hmmmm I will wait to be surprised.

Yawn ... another caravan blown up, gosh what a surprise.

The only part of last night's episode that I enjoyed was James May's review of the Panda. It was actually a pretty intelligent analysis of the pros and cons of small cars. The rest was just rubbish.

My sentiments exactly. It's our licence fee that's paying for that. I'm sure it could be better spent elsewhere.....

Pretty sure the movie's advertising budget would have contributed towards the cost of the cars since they got a pretty big chunk of a show watched by millions dedicated to a film I'd have no intention of going to see.

Episode 1 of this new series was really good, but the over-scripted, not-funny-the-first-hundred-times "accidents" they cause are completely played out. I miss when Top Gear was more about impressive cinematography and high production values, with a bit of comedy and some banter thrown in for the studio bits. The slow-mo 575 vs Vanquish S comes to mind - brilliant cars, good review, lots of sliding around, Steve Coogan for an extra bit of a laugh etc, etc and the 330D they ran at the 24-hour race was brilliant too - again funny, well shot, not just slap-stick and stupid.

Conversely, the electric car they made (I think they called it Geoff) was a complete waste of time and not funny/entertaining at all, and now when they say "How hard can it be?" what I hear is "How obnoxious can we get away with being and how much time can we kill between the proper supercar segments?".

I caught up with this at lunchtime and managed to watch the whole hour in just under 20 minutes.

I'm not sure what that says, but I don't think it's good.

In fact I'm thinking it may have been the worst Top Gear episode I've seen since they've been together as a threesome. Absolute pap.

They think they're entertainers; they're not. They're entertaining motoring journalists, so get back to that gents or move on. Don't let it become another BBC Top of the Pops.

I think thats the problem, it needs a rehash to rekindle interest. The problem is that I'm probably always going to watch it because it's a car programme. I suspect many people will feel the same which will bolster the viewing figures to a certain extent.

I'm the first to admit I'm getting old, and also that I have no idea how these things are funded, but the trashing of things for the hell of it doesn't really entertain me anymore. Trashing an old shed and a caravan was (at one time) amusing, but the needless destruction of the Jag just annoyed me. How about the £50k that cost the show being given to a childrens hospice or something.

Agreed unessesary destruction of perfectly good motor vehicles, for a cheap laugh (if anybody did) i was pretty upset seeing the damage to the jag, and the ford landing on its roof....:asskicking:

How many cars did they review in the one hour episode?

Panda, Corsa...................well they didn't really review the Jag or the Focus............can't think of any more.

And that is where they are going wrong, they aren't doing cars anymore, they doing staged "comedy" in a slapstick manner as if they are Laurel and Hardy.

It was a really bad episode. Thank goodness for Ryan Reynols, was only good part in the whole programme for me

Well I am glad there was some eye candy for you! What do us chaps get? Normally we get to look at very sexy cars, not this week. I can't say the Panda did anything for me :)

Anyhow, it has been running for a long time, it might have reached the end of it's shelf life.

top gear time again, hope its better than last 2weeks.

I've just shouted my 2 teenage sons and said and I quote Top Gear's on lads, let's see if it's any better than the last 2 weeks"

The fisker karma looks good, im loving the solar panels on the roof.

Wow, a 4 wheel drive Ferrari.

I drove past one of those Ferrari's in London before Christmas had to stop the car get out and take pics on my phone!

Thanks for posting the pics. Car looks awesome. Tonights show was a massive improvement on the last two weeks. I loved the Ferrari and the Bentley.

Bentley interior has improved no end, a much needed facelift. I respect the Fezza's engineering standards but those beige interiors make me gag. Fisker was a step in the right direction for hybrids. A better show this week, was beginning to give up hope.

There have never been so many variants of car on the road, and if it wasn't for mainstay motoring magazines Id feel half blind to it at present. You almost need Fifth Gear to supplement TG these days.

The Bentley interior has improved, but it wasn't half bad before.... When you see the work that goes in to them it makes you wonder how they make a profit.

I'm glad Ferrari keep trying "to re-invent the wheel" as Jezza said. It means that these technologies filter down to Joe Bloggs in the future...

I watched FG the other day (a repeat obviously) and it made a refreshing change....

yeah was a better episode this week!
some good and some pontless stuff too!
i particularly liked the technology involved into getting that ferrari 4x4! excellent technological advances achieved, but so OTT and guaranteed to be very unreliable and be an achiles heal in this car which will see the resale value plummet! i found the shape of it gorgeous but will depreciate like a lead balloon sadly! but if you can afford one new, who gives a flying sh!t what its going to be worth in a few years? a future classic i feel!
some other good genuine motoring journalist articles on too, but yet again, scraped the barrell on the mobility scooter challenge bit!
they never even showed how they built them, which in previous episodes was all part of the fun! lol
oh! and is it just me or does anybody else check out the hot females in the audience? just me then eh!

I've been to a couple of the TG recordings, and the production crew actually go round picking the good looking girls and bring them to the front! Clarkson is a right perv too! lol

i had a feeling this was the case!
fair play for recruiting the eye candy topgear!

I spend too many hours sat at the laptop as it is! I'll wait and sit down with my feet up to watch it on a proper screen ;)

Yep, definitely a better show. I didn't watch the skating as I threatened!

However I did record it rather than watching it live, so as soon as they started the final piece on mobility scooters it was 32x speed to the end. Think that's the way forward - watch the car bits and FFWD the messing around.

Thats a fair comment about the mobility scooters. That may have been better viewing if they showed you the conversion like they did in previous programmes like the people carriers or the one where they took the cars in the water.
